I’m not sure how much publicity it’s getting nationally, but a group of Buddhist monks is on a 2,300 mile Walk for Peace from Ft. Worth to DC. They’re passing by a couple miles from me later this afternoon and I’m going by to watch. They have been drawing hundreds if not thousands of supporters in recent days. Tomorrow morning they pass into DC and stop at National Cathedral before walking down embassy row and finishing the afternoon at the Lincoln Memorial. I’ll probably try to go to one or two spots tomorrow.
I'm not sure how much difference it's going to make nationally. Because I'm not sure this will change the minds of many decision makers capable of effecting change. They already have their minds made up.
That's not the only reason to hold a protest like this. You do it because you might be able to influence others. You might encourage others to stand up to demand accountability. An oppressive power relies upon compliance. A protest is resistance, not compliance.
I expect you hit the nail on the head. They finally get into DC tomorrow and are meeting with no politicians or bureaucrats. Wednesday they are in Annapolis, Maryland for part of the day before getting on a bus back to Ft. Worth. But where I was standing today the street was lined with people as far as I could see and I’m willing to bet everyone was inspired.
The snow at Heavenly was better than Northstar. We were at Northstar on Fri and Sun. The bottom of the green family run had bare spots. The bottom of the backside also had bare spots. The homerun run back to the bottom of the gondola also had bare spots. We take homerun to walk back to our friend's cabin so about halfway down you had a to be a little careful.
We may be going back up in a couple of weekends and there is supposed to be a system coming in later this week so hopefully they get some.
heading up to VT for Presidents weekend. i dont really want to ski w/ all the people but our nieces and nephews only get certain days off along w/ everyone else.
I only take a couple of sick days a year off. Ours is tied to PTO and since I work from home, I can still work without worrying about infecting anyone and not have to use my PTO.
I also rarely am sick so most of the sick leave I did use was for family leave when someone else was sick or had passed away. Even so, I had well over a year of sick leave accumulated when I retired. We didn’t get paid for it but we could count it as time worked when calculating our pension.
At my work, at retirement they allow us one of two choices -
1. double the hours and use it as service extension or
2. halve the hours and get paid cash for it.
Not quite sure what I will elect as both options are attractive when you have about 1,400 sick leave hours. 2,800 hours of service extension is roughly equivalent to 1.35 years of service extension.
When I take time off for being sick, I use vacation. That's because I can convert up to 32 hours of sick leave into cash each year, but in order to do so, I have to keep my sick leave usage under 18 hours for each 6 months.
President Trump denounced Bad Bunny over his Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday, complaining that “nobody understands a word this guy is saying” after the largely Spanish-language performance.
I’d never really listened much to Bad Bunny, so I brought him up on Apple Music, which shows you lyrics and translation. This led to my learning that Puerto Rican Spanish is significantly different from Mexican Spanish.
I didn't find elite defense, differential offensive line play, quality special teams, and responsible game management boring at all. I do realize these are foreign concepts rarely seen by casual fans and regular fans of a distressingly large number of teams.
I only kinda watched because we were driving back from Tahoe. No 3 watched on his phone and I drove so I listened to some of it. To me it's a little like a pitchers duel.
If I were a Seahawks fan then I would have enjoyed it. But since I didn't care for either team, I just wanted to see some good offense from both teams.

Very glad you got to see them. I did too when they came through GA-- a more powerful personal experience than I had been expecting.
DBD Skiing
big skiing plan for year is to go to Mammoth for first time in mid-late Mar during older child's spring break.
the could be some complications w/ needing to travel to visit potential grad schools. hopefully that does not get in the way of skiing.
maybe fly into Reno and out of SF. not sure yet ..

I think it's ski week for the schools here so I imagine it's going to be more crowded this week.
Sick days

i dont get sick too often, maybe i take a day or two each year if i am not well. i am not one off those "i never take a sick day" people
I also rarely am sick so most of the sick leave I did use was for family leave when someone else was sick or had passed away. Even so, I had well over a year of sick leave accumulated when I retired. We didn’t get paid for it but we could count it as time worked when calculating our pension.
TIL that @dcblue is retired.

PRO
Super Bowl MVP
won by well deserving running back BUT you couldnt vote for the place kicker and you couldnt vote of the Seattle defense even if you wanted to.
i checked the voting website when it was open up to fan vote in the 4th Q.
i was rooting for a shutout in the Seahwaks win. that was very satisfying SB to watch.
as expected

It was the most boring super Bowl game since the Rams vs the Pats.

And Hawkins and Woodson performed well. Woodson led the Pats in tackles and had 3 TFLs.
