my take is that publicly traded companies are beholden to "maximizing shareholder value." if you are going to stick to this plan then it is hard to reconcile with moral compass, especially when the going gets tough. that being said, some are looser than others.
Folks often don't understand that the first amendment is a prohibition against government curbing speech. Private actors and private spaces are not subject to this prohibition (with some exceptions if privately owned space is deemed a public square).
As a former umpire, I share that view, also. If you're a pitcher who has an 0-2 count on a batter, the pressure is definitely on the batter. They have to guard the plate, they have to be ready to swing the bat. I guarantee you many batters are not ready to swing the bat, especially if the count went quickly from 0-0 to 0-2, which can happen when there's not a lot of time between pitches.
If you're a pitcher who has an 0-2 count against a batter, be aggressive. Go after the batter. You want to keep your pitch count down, anyway, an aggressive 0-2 pitch is a weapon in your arsenal.
When I used to religiously watch baseball it drove me crazy to watch a Giant's pitcher turned an 0-2 into a 3-2 and if they actually walked him it was utterly maddening. Never believed in "wasting" a pitch. Waste not want not.
I know of what you speak, though I want to banish it from my memory. For too many times and for far too long, wasting 0-2 pitches and batters working the count from 0-2 to 3-2 has been a hallmark oi my Giants fandom. It was even a thing during the World Series years. But it's a baseball thing because I see it happening in many games, not just Giants games.
The Golden State Warriors are undefeated in the Jimmy Butler era, and it seems that a strategy is emerging: a second-half takeover. After turning a 24-point third-quarter deficit into a 21-point win on Saturday against the Chicago Bulls, the Warriors once again turned on the third and fourth-quarter burners en route to a 125-111 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night.
Warrior Week at Soul Cycle had this fun sign w/ Warriors players. i was surprised to see it in the NYC location that i normally go to. even looks like someone got a photo of Jimmy Butler on the team.
It was a perfect debut for Luka Dončić and the Lakers on Monday as they routed the Jazz with plenty of highlights along the way, winning 132-113.
Luka Dončić’s debut as a Laker ended with him scoring 14 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing four dimes in 24 minutes of action. LeBron James ended with 24 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and a steal. Austin Reaves had 22 points with nine rebounds and four assists.
BERKELEY – The California men's basketball team opens its third East Coast trip of the season at No. 3 Duke on Wednesday night. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina, and the contest will be broadcast on ACC Network and 810 AM.
Hoping Bears can shoot a bit better than over the weekend. Bummed that Dook is coming off the Clemson loss- prefer we didn't have to be the ranking come back game.
California baseball fans can enjoy a series of fun activities and ticket discounts at Stu Gordon Stadium throughout the 2025 season.
The activities begin with a Baseball Is For Lovers' night at the Stu for the Valentine's Day season opener against Nevada that includes two tickets and a Valentine's Day Gift for only $14. During a 10-game season-opening homestand, the Golden Bears will also host a Little League Night (Wed., Feb. 26 – vs. Cal State Bakersfield) and distribute Chick-fil-a gift cards for the first 200 students through the gate (Fri., Feb. 28 – vs. Santa Clara). Cal will host other activities that run throughout the season including Cal Kids' Day after each of the team's five home Sunday games and autograph sessions after four Saturday contests.
CHARLOTTE – California freshman guard Jeremiah Wilkinson was voted as the ACC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, the conference office announced Monday.
Wilkinson led the Golden Bears with 17.5 points per game in a two-game split with NC State (74-62 win) and Wake Forest (76-66 loss) last week. He scored 14 points and dished out a season-high four assists in the midweek win against the Wolfpack before scoring 21 points in the loss to the Demon Deacons. The left-hander knocked down five 3-pointers across the two games, including three vs. Wake Forest.

Google caves to Trump and relabels the Gulf of Mexico into the Gulf of America
how long until Apple maps also makes the change- over/under?
Already happened
Super surprised he didn't want it named Gulf of Trump. Google would have complied.

Yeah, the answer is literally all of them.

Was going to say, far from just a Giants thing, or even a pro thing. Or even a baseball thing, softball suffers from this as well.
There are some HS games where the count should just start at 3-2, because 8-9 times out of 10 that's where we are going.
Now that Snell is on the Dodgers, it's the Dodgers fans turn to get mad.

We play Duke tomorrow. I wonder by how many points we'll lose.
Our best chance is to launch from just inside the half court line every possession & hope the law of averages doesn't apply for this game.
