(Now ex) Oregon transfer WR arrested, and booted off the team.

https://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/2023/02/oregon-ducks-receiver-traeshon-holden-alabama-transfer-arrested.html

It's interesting how quickly he was kicked off the team, even though he was "cleared" (Lane county jail's term) of charges and released later in the afternoon, though the DA could still bring other charges at some point. To be removed, vs suspended, at least until the legal process progresses, is unusual, and suggests someone know considerably more than has come out, whether it is directly tied to the incident, or if there is something more to this.

A show that I started and watched the first 8 or so episodes. I should restart it.

One of the funniest show if rated on jokes per minute

Great show, lots of fun.

Something from Tiffany's. (Prime, 6/19, WNB). Wife wanted a rom-com for Valentine's Day. Not bad, per se. But just terribly boring and as predictable as a Beau Baldwin 1st down play (run in the 4 hole for 2 yards). Like zero twists or turns apart from the continuity/motivation/plot holes that made certain things confusing.

Sounds like the rom-coms that Hallmark has been churning out for many years. My wife has seen hundreds, and got me to see a few dozen. Different people in different professions in different parts of the world, but always the same plot. And always a happy ending. The AV version of the old Harlequin romance.

Jeni's is doing a collab with Ted Lasso, and the Biscuits with the Boss flavor comes out March 2

Highly recommend: Jim Jeffries Netflix special that premiered Tuesday. Had the pleasure of seeing him in concert in SF a year ago. Hilarious.

The Turks Islands are named after "Turk's cap cactus" (melocactus intortus), which have a bristle-bloom that looks like a colorful fez.

No Turkish prison, but the Russian Turkish baths in the east village are quite an experience.

The best thing you can get is the platza treatment when they take you into the HOT room and beat you with platza leaves and branches.

Lie down while in the Russian Room and a platza specialist will scrub you (actually beat you) with a broom made of fresh oak leaves, sopping with olive oil soap. The oak leaves contain a natural astringent, which will open your pores, remove toxins, and actually take off layers of dead skin. Some described the platza as "Jewish acupuncture

I can't believe this has not become a trend in LA culture.

Cugel's avatar

WOW, that sounds intense - way more than a massage I've ever had.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

there is also the traditional alternating hot-cold-hot experience.

you can warm up in dry sauna, steam room or the Russian HOT room which is a bunch of really hot rocks with spigots of cold water to cool off.

then you take a plunge in the COLD pool before getting back into one of the hot rooms.

the other thing i like is a the dead sea mud face mask for men. you put it on for a while and the shave. very refreshing ..

-oise (Turqoise) though strongly associated with the Southwest and indigenous art of tribes in the Southwest, turquoise is a French word for Turkish as turquoise spread through Europe via the Ottoman Empire.

An absolutely fantastic movie with Timothy Hutton, Kim Cattrall, Darren McGavin, Robert Urich, Robert Culp, and Peter Boyle...f-ing classic.

Was there a splice? Just seemed like a Mahomes monologue.

That is hilarious! Though his acting range is limited, Danny McBride has reinvented similar characters in both Vice Principals and the Righteous Gemstones quite brilliantly.

Georgia special grand jury finding unsealed. The grand jury found no significant voter fraud and recommended at least one person be charged with perjury. The finding were withheld, so the ball is in the Fulton County DA's court as to whether they want to press criminal charges.

Good news everybody. In 2022, 19 out of 20 homicides are NOT committed by the police

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/feb/15/us-homicides-committed-by-police-gun-violence

AndyPanda's avatar

That would include suicide by cop incidents, but a day rarely goes by anymore without an officer involved shooting/use of other violent tactics event making the local news. The spectrum of these is massive, but it seems a lot of issues are reaching the extreme level before anyone gets a handle on them anymore.

Our Fearless Leader or the First Lady is on the move. I went down the National Mall on my run this morning and as I passed the Washington Monument I noticed that Constitution Ave near the White House was blocked off by the police and a fire department vehicle was parked on the edge of the Ellipse. I could hear what sounded like a helicopter warming up and a few seconds later it rose from behind the trees. It quickly synched up with two other copters and went off to the north. I couldn't find anything on the President's schedule saying he was going anywhere today.

Just heard on the news that he's at Walter Reed for a physical.

tOSU cancels home-and-home series vs. Washington that was for 2024, 2025

https://ohiostatebuckeyes.com/ohio-state-cancels-series-with-washington/

Oski Disciple's avatar

It's time again for me to point out that one of the dumbest expressions in sports is "home-and home" series. It's home and away. Home AND home makes no logical sense I will continue to hammer away at this one until my dying die and no power on earth can stop me.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

while you can imagine either being "correct" to some people.

i think that the strangest thing is that no one can say w/ any clarity what is the difference between "home and away" and "home and home"

FiatSlug's avatar

It's about perspective.

"home and away" - you're probably a fan of one of the two teams involved in the series.

"home and home" - regardless of your affiliation or even if you have an affiliation, you recognize that both team have a home game in the series.

Oski Disciple's avatar

But don't you recognize that if it's home and away?

FiatSlug's avatar

The difference is about nuance and, to a degree, attitude.

"home and away" - my favorite team has one game at home and one game away against this other team.

"home and home" - my favorite team has a home a game against that other team and that other team also has a home a game against my favorite team.

Nuance and attitude.

Scootie's avatar

It's home and home because each team playing gets a home game in the series. I see no issue with the nomenclature.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I agree. “Home and home” is neutral nomenclature that people that are not fans or local reporters of either team should use.

Now, if you’re a fan of one those teams or a reporter covering one of the teams, you can use “home and away”.

Peetyjay's avatar

It also an "away and away" series, no?

GoldenSD81's avatar

That’s probably true for FCS teams and maybe some G5 teams but is not typical of P5. However, that is one way to describe it and is true.

FiatSlug's avatar

Precisely my point. I shoulda read this sooner.

AndyPanda's avatar

Agree. There's no confusion in the communication.

Oski Disciple's avatar

As Ebeneezer Scrooge famously said, "I'll retire to bedlam."

Oski Disciple's avatar

Each gets an away game too.

O.Overall's avatar

I agree! Also if everyone understands the thing signified by the signifier then it seems almost per se ok

Berkelium97's avatar

A while ago atomsareenough convinced me that this is the superior way to refer to these series, and I've been a proponent ever since.

Oski Disciple's avatar

Please do enlighten me with specifics because I can see no logic behind home and home -- which mathematically is two homes -- when in fact one game is away.

Berkelium97's avatar

I'm agreeing with you. atoms convinced me that "home-and-away" is superior

Oski Disciple's avatar

Oops. Misread your comment. I blame Mark Fox.

goldenone's avatar

Chickens, don't want that big chance of an L on their resume.

AndyPanda's avatar

It certainly says something about the worth of a buy-game vs the potential of an actual L on the record, at least in Columbus, given the amount of money being spent and extra work done to avoid a series the Huskies might actually get a W in. And to avoid the possibility of having to make 2 trips to the west coast the year they were to come out to Seattle, just in case they get an away game with either USC or UCLA that year. Even though they may not draw a game with either school that year, and if they do, it could be in Columbus.

Cugel's avatar

Man, we came so close to beating them there.

Justbear's avatar

We got a new coach. Joc Upton.

What's he going to do?

goldenone's avatar

What does that mean? Was there a quality control coach under Musgrave? The Tercel offense most of the time or dare I say Yugo was certainly not up to snuff unless we got the ball into the hands of our playmakers. Tight ends need not apply.

Justbear's avatar

I'm sure we did. Wasn't CJ Anderson here a few years ago? Or was he just GA?

Qc control are basically just coaches who don't count towards NCAA limit of 10 assistant coaches, and they help with anything, such as video analyzing, I believe.
