Wasn't Ubaka Oakand High? Oakland High feeding Oakland Tech.

Expand full comment

Yes, Ayinde played at Oakland. So did Lloyd Moseby and Bill Rigney. As far as OHS being a feeder for Tech, not lately. Since the Lillard funding has helped the athletics (specifically basketball) program, they’ve been a top team the last couple of years. The Wildcats won the state title last year, in fact, led by a player named Money Williams.

Many, many, many years ago I was Oakland High. A friend tried to convince me to try out for JV but I knew even that was beyond my skill.

Sinema (I-AZ) announces she's out at the end of this year, won't seek reelection.

This was telegraphed back in November when Sinema declined to do the fundraising necessary for a bruising three-way campaign with Gallego (probable Dem nominee) and whoever the GOP nominee will be (Lake? someone else?).

I'm hopeful that Gallego becomes Arizona's next US Senator.

This is interesting. Sinema pulls slightly more GOP voters than DEMs, so Gallego loses a point vs. Kari Lake by Sinema pulling out. But to Gallego's benefit, it means the wild card is gone and Gallego's 7 point lead is more certain

California primary for vacant seat today. Results will end the career of perhaps two progressive Democrats - likely Katie Porter and Barbara Lee.

Schiff's strategy to elevate Garvey by picking on him in TV ads to block Porter (and Lee) worked like a charm. It's a scummy strategy, and it will work to Schiff's advantage.

If Schiff had to face Porter in November, he'd have had a real race that he might not win. Against Garvey, Schiff should win in a walk. Schiff's biggest challenge will be turning out the vote in November.

I saw an article in WaPo about that. I'm guessing that a moose at full gallop can overtake a pack of sled dogs.

It’s early in the race and the musher has been running a little under 10 mph. Moose can get up to 35. I can’t remember seeing one really run during my time in Alaska though I saw them regularly.
