This popped into my Inbox this morning and I feel like some of you might be interested in "Jeff Bridges - The Big Lebowski Screening : An Evening with The Dude" (on 4/20 no less)
There are several southern universities east coast/midwest/NE people mix up as private, like Clemson and Auburn (both public). Sort of like how east coasters tend not to really understand about California and how all the UCs fit or don't fit under the banner - I had to explain it to the guy next to me at the Cal/GA Tech game the other week.
I had an excellent uncle. He lived in NYC my whole life (the only member of my extended family who lived outside of California, which made him quite exotic). He went to Yale, fought in WW2 and then moved to NY, where he was the lighting director at CBS News, and in particular for 60 Minutes from its inception until around 1990. He was friends with Walter Cronkite and with Dan Rather, he had excellent showbiz stories, and he was the kindest person.
I once mentioned in passing when I was about 12 that I had a crush on some soap opera actor, and the next time I saw Uncle Bob he showed up with an autographed album from that actor because he was friends with his agent and thought that would be a nice thing to do. I was floored.
I had a really fun uncle. After he died my cousins told me he was far from fun as a father. For my nieces and nephews (two of each) I'm the fun uncle. Being an uncle before you're a father is good training.
My most fun uncle used to do the motion magic trick of pretending that he could separate part of his thumb from his hand. He was soooo good at it, I was always amazed. Later realized he really was missing part of that thumb! (he lost it plowing through a glass door as a kid)
Unfortunately, that is just more evidence of the fecklessness of Democratic leadership. Democracy in America cannot survive with milquetoast leadership from the opposition (Democratic) party.
The idea that comity should prevail is illusory. No such thing is possible if one side is bent on destroying comity and inflicting a dictatorship.
Absolutely. In today's political climate we need to make the party in power not just accountable, but perpetually uncomfortable. Under those conditions, they will break.
I really appreciated Green stating in other articles that he is ok with the colleagues pushing/voting for censure, as he acted on his conscience and is willing to take the consequences (and that he feels certain he would do it again). Good trouble.

Georgia
I think of Georgia Tech, a public research university.

Ray Charles. Even before I opened and scrolled down the DBD home page.
HAVE YOU HAD OR DO YOU HAVE A REALLY COOL UNCLE?

I have an uncle who has occasionally given me some cool books to read. He gave me the Foundation Trilogy when I was in junior high.

Had a couple that had some really interesting WW II experiences, and travel and outdoors after that.
Don't have any uncles (or aunts) left, cool or otherwise.
THE HORROR SHOW THAT IS POLITICS TODAY
The House votes to censure US Rep. Al Green for disrupting Trump's speech to a joint session of Congress this past Tuesday night.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/03/06/trump-presidency-news-speech/
Less than 40 hours after the conclusion of Trump's speech comes the partisan hackery of a censure.
Funny how nothing happened to MTG when she interrupted Biden.

We need more Jasmine Crocketts and AOCs and a LOT fewer Hakeem Jeffrieses and Chuck Schumers.

That's at the heart of civil disobedience. Be willing to suffer the consequences of the law to show the injustice and spur others to action.
The current regime counts on compliance. That's why Schumer and Jeffries are proving to be inadequate.
