Athletics score 11 in ninth for 12-1 win over Reds

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2025/3/13/24385069/athletics-score-11-in-ninth-for-12-1-win-over-reds

The Athletics rallied back late in a big way on Thursday afternoon, scoring 11 runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead for good against the Cincinnati Reds.

It was a battle of left-handers as JP Sears took on Reds’ starter Nick Lodolo. Both starters were on their A-game today in what could be their second-to-last start before the regular season begins. Neither team scored a run over the first five frames as offense was at a premium in today’s contest. At least, early on.

Whatever. I can’t get excited for MLB anymore. There is no way this move by the A’s from the Bay should have happened. Hand over the keys to someone else, John, as others have previously chanted and pleaded. He, Manfred, and all the owners (including the Giants’ owner) who were complicit in the screwing over of Oakland by the league have no respect for, or from, the community of fans here.

I wonder if the MLB forced him to spend some money this year. It's the only reason I can think of for some of the signings they've made.

March Madness Food Drive: Can we make it a 3-Peat?

https://writeforcalifornia.com/p/march-madness-food-drive-can-we-make

Cal Fam!

Are you ready to go for a three-peat?

You might remember that, for the past two years, I have represented Cal for the March Madness food drive at the school where I teach up here in Washington. Both years, I asked for your help. And all you did was blow everyone away – BOTH YEARS – and win back-to-back championships for Cal.

I spent today in the arid lakebed of the Aral Sea. There is salt everywhere and it is an utter wasteland/cautionary tale about ecological abuse. But there are still some interesting archeological sites here. At one site, there was 1st century pottery strewn about amongst the modern broken beer bottles

both our kids have been competitive rock climbers all thru their school years. they have done some outdoor climbing but most of it is indoors at climbing gyms.

it has been a great community that we discovered as a result. much different than the more traditional kids sports spending weekends on travel teams. interestingly there is a lot of mandatory parent participation to judge the competitions since there is little-to-no money to pay for refs and judges. i was even a judge at nationals one year.

as for crags and outdoor climbing, we went to Acadia NP one time and everyone climbed a similar looking crag that is right on the water.
