I know a gal who told me she was once a stilt performer in a small Marin county circus, back in the day, that was called Danger Ha-Ha.

There are people protesting across the street from Lafayette Elementary school, I think about teaching sex ed. I've seen signs about people being born one way, school leaders being groomers. I'll give you one guess the type of people that are protesting...

I'm convinced that there are a group of folks in this country who are deliberately trying to provoke social unrest. I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to provoke something more than just a few flared tempers, too.

Manfred vows to keep investigation into Ohtani "short", short enough to not find anything incriminating

Yeah, the only way it would ever actually be investigated would be if law enforcement did the investigation

*ANYTHING* that could reflect poorly on Ohtani will be hidden. I'm unconvinced that Ohtani isn't the real target here. How could anyone be so amazingly blind as to allow $4.5 million to evaporate?

Lou Whittaker - legendary mountaineer - has reached the big summit in the sky

https://apnews.com/article/mountaineer-everest-rainier-jim-whittaker-b74435763e4b14cf5216995ed15f44fa

Expand full comment

Climbed Ranier with Ranier Guides, Whittaker's owned, July ‘77. Was working field forestry all that winter-spring humping up and down timber sales around Mt. St. Helen’s….so in great shape. Lou happened to be on this particular climb.

We summited around 8am. Lou pulled out several tall Ranier beer cans out and we passed them around. Got down to Paradise by 2:45 which he said was one of the fastest. He invited us for beer and sandwiches at the Lodge. He regailed us with a lot of climbing stories. I got blasted and though I was camped at a campground, I could not drive and got a room at the lodge.

Betts/Shohei/Freddie could combine for 2,200 plate appearances

Expand full comment

If all three players play in 150 games, they would combine to *average* 14.6667 plate appearances per game. I find that statistic to be incredible. Even 2,100 plate appearances over 150 games would require a combined average of 14 plate appearance per game.

Expand full comment

Small sample size, but I think they’re at 44 combined thru 3 games…

Expand full comment

Small sample size, indeed.

They'd have to keep up that pace all season and not rest more than a dozen games each. Someone gets injured the likely number of combined plate appearances drops.

Expand full comment

Freddie won't rest until the Dodgers clinch. And even then he'll just take a game or two off. He's always been that way. Since Ohtani is just DH'ing, I don't see him missing more than a few games. Same with Mookie I think. Maybe he'll play 155.

Expand full comment

Staying in the lineup will be the key. If they all stay healthy, they’re definitely making at least a run at it, especially if Outman & Lux take a step at the bottom of the lineup.

Padres retake the lead in the 7th as the Giants bullpen can't seem to miss bats. Padres win 6-4 at home.

Padres got a number of hits off weak contact in this game, just one of those things. Giants still looked pretty competitive. Not dominant, but like a team that could get to mid-80s wins.

Jordan Hicks will be back in the pen sooner rather than later.

He’s likely pitching 4-5 innings a week…definitely more valuable out of the ‘pen.

Expand full comment

Between Hicks and Snell, the bullpen is going to be overworked.

Expand full comment

Exactly. And unless Hicks can consistently give them dominant outings like he did Tues v the A’s, he’s just so much more valuable in high-leverage situation. We’ll see what happens once they get Cobb back.

Expand full comment

It's the A's. Maybe he can do that against the Rockies but it'll be much tougher for him for most of the games.

Expand full comment

Exactly. I think he’s more likely to be consistently struggling to get thru 5 as an SP, which really doesn’t help you as much as him giving you multiple games a week out of the pen.
