even though there are not that many opportunities, i rather enjoy changing tires. it is a good combo of physical activity and a little bit of not-too-hard problem solving.
not that i have seen it, but my wife's dad insisted she learn to change a spare in HS before getting her license. good parenting, in my book!
My dad made sure I knew how to do a few things -- change a tire, check/adjust tire pressure, check the oil and add more if needed, manage coolant and washer fluid levels, know how to jump start. I am grateful!
I just got all my boys jump packs. Although they do know how to jump a car but don't have jumper cables. Would've been cheaper to just get them jumper cables.
I used to carry a can of fix-a-flat. Until some years ago, when it turns out that stuff destroys the tire pressure sensor, which costs about $200 to replace.
Mando S3 E6 - Fun and weird diversion episode . . . .dpn't feel like it moved us closer to the main storylines conclusions. Grogu's puppetry is a lot of fun.
In a game with playoff energy, or at least play-in energy, the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder slugged it out at the Chase Center. While the Warriors never held a lead until nearly 40 minutes into the game, they pulled away to come away with a huge 136-125 win that temporarily put them into 5th place in the Western Conference.
Steph Curry led the way with 34 points, but it was Jordan Poole who was the closer late. He had 18 points in the final quarter, including eight straight Warriors points as they put the game away down the stretch.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way for Oklahoma City with 32 points, one of six OKC players in double figures. But the Thunder’s red-hot first-half shooting abandoned them after halftime, especially from three-point range, where the Warriors finished with a 30-point advantage.
Either the Lakers or Clippers will get one more loss tonight, Pels have the Grizzlies tonight and the Knicks on Friday. The Lakers and Clippers both have games left against the Suns and Minnesota also will play the Pelicans. Not to mention the Suns final three are Nuggets, Lakers, Clippers in four days.
So there will be lots of movement, but I think they have a good shot at staying in the 5 or 6 spot even if they lose to the Kings. Blazers is a must win to close out the season.
The Oakland A’s beat the Cleveland Guardians tonight, walking it off and winning by a final score of 4-3.
It was JP Sears on the mound for Oakland, making his 2023 debut. He was solid in the early going, giving up four weak-contact singles over the first three innings and inducing a well-timed double play with runners at the corners.
The A’s struck first against Cleveland starter Shane Bieber. A leadoff walk and single in the third inning brought up centerfielder Esteury Ruiz and he doubled down the left field line to bring in the first run and put runners at second and third.
Behind the long ball, and another solid performance by Julio Urías, who surely appreciates facing this Colorado lineup away from Coors Field, the Dodgers wrapped up another win, improving to 4-2 on the season, beating the Rockies 5-2 on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers' start to the season has been marked by blowout victories, and narrow losses, something that carried over to the first game of this series, and while a 5-2 win doesn’t necessarily scream either of those things, in a way it was a bit of both.
The Dodgers looked in control for much of this game and came into the ninth inning up 5-0, but an out-of-nowhere rally on Phil Bickford, required Dave Roberts to turn to Evan Phillips in the middle of the ninth, pitching with the tying run on base at one point.
SAN FRANCISCO – California infielder Elon Butler has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after a standout weekend during the Golden Bears' series victory over No. 24 Utah.
Butler hit two home runs in Cal's series-clinching win over the Utes on Sunday, a 3-run shot in the third and a solo homer in the sixth that turned out to be the game-winner in a 5-4 victory. The San Jose, California, native hit .500 for the series after recording two hits with a double and an RBI in Friday's game.
SAN LUIS OBISPO. – The No. 9 California beach volleyball team closed out a perfect weekend at Cal Poly's Mustang Invitational with another pair of wins Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears bested No. 20 Tulane 3-2 and the host Mustangs 5-0 to go 4-0 on the weekend.
No. 9 Cal 3, No. 20 Tulane 2
Cal picked up its eighth ranked win of the season topping the Green Wave from Tulane to begin the day. Junior Brooke Buchner and sophomore Alex Young-Gomez finished first and kept their recent hot streak on the lower courts going with a 21-16, 21-11 on five. The senior duo of Ainsley Radell and Ashley Delgado picked up a 21-14, 21-11 win on two but Tulane responded with a court four victory to stay alive.
NAPA – Led by senior Tzu-Yi Chang, the California women's golf team moved up two spots on day two of the Silverado Showdown on Tuesday.
The Golden Bears enjoyed a top-half second-round finish within a talented 17-team field, posting the eighth-best team score of 12-over 300. They head into the final day of competition Wednesday in sole possession of 10th place.
NAPA – The California women's golf team began its final competition ahead of the Pac-12 Championships on Monday, finding itself in a tie for 12th place through 18 holes at the Silverado Showdown at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa.
Fresh off her third top-15 finish of the season at last weekend's PING/ASU Invitational, junior Cristina Ochoa – the Bears' low scorer for the season – currently leads the team at 3-over 75 after one round.
BERKELEY – Less than 24 hours after Mark Madsen and his wife, Hannah, welcomed their fourth child into the world, the two-time NBA champion and 2022-23 Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year was introduced into a new family himself.
Welcome to a new era of California men's basketball.
"The history of Cal basketball is winning; and winning at a high, high level," said Madsen, who was introduced as the 19th head coach in Cal men's basketball history at a press conference at Haas Pavilion on Monday. "The NCAA Championship, multiple Sweet 16s, repeated NCAA Tournaments – I'm going to do everything in my power and we will restore Cal basketball to that level of play."
i probably would have only glanced quickly at her TikTok page except the Cal sweatshirt caught my eye and i realized this person is from Bay Area. i am not on TikTok, but at least i learned something today ..
Mine goes into a quart mason jar, then into a gallon Ziploc when the jar gets full, then when the Ziploc and the jar are full, I pull out enough quarters to fill up the car's ashtray to use in parking meters and take the rest to a Coinstar, where it's free to count if I load it all onto an Amazon gift card which I'm happy to do. It's usually around $150 every couple of years.
Most quarters go in the center console for parking, everything else goes in a little ceramic boston terrier until its full. I may be one of the last hold outs who then hand rolls everything up and takes it to the bank for cash.
I was thinking of trying make some sort of holder such that I don't need to count the coins. I can just put them in and it only lets me put in the number for each roll. That's probably too tedious. I guess I could just make stacks of 5 or 10.
I have a cup I throw spare change in. Not as much recently. When there are places that I use cash, like at the donut shop or Farolito, I usually just throw change in the tip jar.
The only real place I get it is at the farmer's market. There's a guy from somewhere in Central America that plays a small guitar there and he gets whatever change I get plus $1. Change is pretty much in the past. Most panhandlers ask for a dollar (or more). There are a couple I know and I try to have a supply of ones to give them a dollar when I see them.
i try not to have any nor carry any around. usually just add it as a tip or put it in one of those "save abused animals and children" type donation buckets.
there used to be some benefit to hoarding quarters for parking meters, but with all the parking apps these days you dont really need those anymore.
I used a parking app *once*. When I found that it charged me another 30 cents, I resolved not to use a parking app unless absolutely necessary.
Berkeley's parking meters do take credit cards, though, as well as coins. Plastic is advised, though, for the most expensive meters, where you can be charged as much as $6 for 2 hours (in the downtown core).

Maybe, but my car has zero spares now.
So what do you do if you have a blowout?
Call AAA? Drive a different ride? Nah.
maybe he has runflats?
I just got all my boys jump packs. Although they do know how to jump a car but don't have jumper cables. Would've been cheaper to just get them jumper cables.
My car is unable to jump start other cars now. Nor do I have a spare - I just have an electric air pump.
I used to carry a can of fix-a-flat. Until some years ago, when it turns out that stuff destroys the tire pressure sensor, which costs about $200 to replace.

Anyone else enjoying season two of Perry Mason?
Yes, overall - l liked Monday's episode, but the prior week was not as good - looked good, but poorly written.
I haven’t started S2. I thought season 1 was just OK.
Guess not.
I wonder if the DBD is for subscribers only again.

that was good to see Ws play well in 2nd half.
2 upcoming road games to finish season, my guess is that unless the other teams also all lose, the Ws will be in the play-in bracket ..
OR maybe Wiggins comes back and saves the day!

Yup, probably winning one more game keeps them out of the play-in.
Also rumor has it Wiggs will be back Friday (fingers crossed)
OKC was so hot in the first half but they couldn't keep it up in the 2nd half.
GP2 had a great putback dunk.

That GPII dunk was something else, so glad he's back on the team
It reminded me of some of the Shaq dunks.
And a great game by Moses Moody. Staying ready off the bench.

I used to take it until this year - just leave it behind now.

Most quarters go in the center console for parking, everything else goes in a little ceramic boston terrier until its full. I may be one of the last hold outs who then hand rolls everything up and takes it to the bank for cash.
I have lots of coins in various cup sized containers. I guess I should roll them up.
I find it pretty meditative, just remember to wear disposable gloves or your fingers will get rather grimy
I was thinking of trying make some sort of holder such that I don't need to count the coins. I can just put them in and it only lets me put in the number for each roll. That's probably too tedious. I guess I could just make stacks of 5 or 10.
Who am I kidding, they're going to stay in the container and the kids can fight over them.
Throw it in a mug, roll it & deposit in road trip fund.
What's the most you can have without having the right coins to make change for a dollar? $1.19 -
3 quarters ($0.75)
4 dimes ($0.40)
4 pennies ($0.04)
11 coins, $1.19 total
Reminded me of this SNL skit.

Ouch. I guess the next DBDPiDayHH isn't at your place.
Man, that is steep! Ouch, indeed.
I noticed the same thing. I'd rather use my CC than the parking app.
