Nikita Kucherov becomes the fifth person in NHL history to reach 100 assists in a season. It's been 32 seasons since someone reached 100 assists.

Apropos: Wayne Gretsky did it 11 seasons in a row.

The amazing Gretsky stat is if you just look at his assists, he still has the highest point total in history. 1963 career assists. 2nd place in total points is Jagr with 1921 total points.

A’s get back in the win column with 6-3 victory

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2024/4/17/24133371/as-get-back-in-the-win-column-with-6-3-victory

The impossible has happened: Paul Blackburn gave up a run. Three, in fact.

The righty didn’t have his best stuff Wednesday afternoon against the St. Louis Cardinals but for the first time in 2024, his team around him were really able to rally to get Blackburn the win - his second of the season. The 6-3 win puts the A’s now at 8-11 for the season as they avoid the sweep.

Keaton Winns pitchers’ duel

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2024/4/17/24133144/giants-marlins-recap-keaton-winn-matt-chapman-patrick-bailey

Keaton Winn’s 2024 has been an exercise in the word almost. It’s been a masterclass in the idiom close but no cigar. It’s been ... nevermind, you get the point.

The San Francisco Giants young pitcher, still technically in his rookie season after ending 2023 a hair under the prospect graduation eligibility requirements, earned high praise at the start of Spring Training ... but quickly suffered an injury setback. He was then penciled into the fifth starter spot for the first half of the season ... but the team signed Blake Snell at the buzzer. And then, in his first three starts of the year filling in for Alex Cobb, he pitched well ... but always with one or two moments that threw the good out the window.

Nationals steal a series as Dodgers offense takes the afternoon off

https://www.truebluela.com/2024/4/17/24133475/dodgers-offense-shutout-landon-knack-mlb-debut

Last time the Dodgers lost a regular season game without scoring a single run was at the end of July in 2023. Raise your hand if you had the Jake Irvin-led Nationals handing them their next shutout defeat. Most of us certainly didn’t, but that’s what happened in Washington’s 2-0 win on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium.

The bills haven't been been made public yet, but some expect this to be the move that costs Johnson his job.
