I used to not like apple products, and still don't. But when I was employed by the mothership based on Hillsboro I volunteered to learn iOS development so they got me a Macbook Pro. They are great. Best laptop I've ever used. Best hinges that never go floppy. I personally now have a Macbook Pro that also runs Windows in a virtual machine. It's worth the extra money since the design and build quality (except for the bad butterfly keyboard design)
But, I don't like anything else apple. Not paying a premium for an iPhone or iPad.
I have found MacBooks to be very durable. Back in maybe 2016 I was using my old 2012 Air for work while waiting for a customer laptop to be bought - it ran Tableau calculations without breaking a sweat, and the cheap-ass Dell the customer issued which was 4 years newer always felt like it was about to burst into flames for the same task.

Microsoft windows on a Mac is horrible. I have huge 100 MB+ documents that I open up in windows in a Parallels VM. It doesn't update the UI until the entire document has been processed, vs on windows where the UI updates as it's being processed. You can scroll down as it is processed.
mentaiko (spicy cod roe) is one of those odd spicy things that japanese like, even tho their food is generally not spicy. My wife as an example freaks if there's any spiciness in her food, but happily had mentaiko pasta last weekend. I asked why, and she didn't have a great answer. beyond just liking it ;-)
[trying to get our 7-yo to try more spicy food so that she gets a nominal tolerance built up...I grew up in a bland household, so only in the last 10~15 years have I started ramping up my spicy tolerance...to where I can't eat some things w/o a bit of not-too-picante hot sauce. like a Tapatio, for example.]
I'm not the biggest fan of Tabasco and much prefer Crystal instead. Tapatio and Cholula are both excellent Mexican sauces. I'll try anything, though, with any kind of heat. Yum!
The SF Giant's high-A team, the Eugene Emeralds, has adopted an alternative mascot - the exploding whales. I signed up to be notified when their caps go on sale.
47-year old Dr. Joasia Zakrzewski comes in 3rd at the Great Britain Ultramarathon, but is later disqualified for using an illegal substance - an automobile.
Who had Dbacks in 1st by 2.5 and all other NL West teams at or below 500 this far into the season? Looks like Pads and Dodgers are having pitching issues. Dodgers either score 7+ or 0 or 1 it seems.
Lately the issue with the Pads has been the lack of hitting more than pitching. I can’t believe the D’backs are in first by 2.5. I don’t think that will last long.
D’backs were sneaky good. I had them pegged to finish 3rd, ahead of the Giants and Rockies.
But not 1st…thought the Doyers would miss the Turners. Figured the Pads would come out firing on all cylinders with that pitching. They’ll turn it around.
yeah, this could be the beginning of the end. such high hopes at the beginning of the year. Core back. Youngsters with another year under their collective belts (and Wiseman!).
but when Steph and Dray can't manage to stop with the sloppy passing -- and the team fouls like mad -- you end up blowing two super-winnable games.
it'd be a diff world if it were even 1-1 heading into tomorrow's game. but maybe it'll be an epic comeback and a legendary WCBC.
The turnovers are just maddening. And the late game jacking of 3’s…if it’s Steph and Klay that’s one thing but don’t love relying on Wiggins after he’s been out 2 months…while improved, even at his best he’s a spotty enough shooter.
Yup. Overboard on the 3s. It’s great when they drop four in five possessions and steal the other team’s soul. But at times, just play your offense and get to the rim.
The Oakland A’s are in the midst of their second 6-game losing streak in just 19 games so far this season. Though hope is on the horizon with Mason Miller and Jordan Diaz getting the callup, this nightmare of a 2023 season is still in full-on Freddy Kruger mode.
For once, however, it wasn’t the starting pitcher’s fault. Ken Waldichuk, whose 6 innings of 3-run ball last week is the reason the A’s aren’t in the midst of a 13-game losing streak. He shut down a very hot Cubs lineup, dealing 5 scoreless, 5-strikeout innings. He also reached 100 pitches again, a godsend for an excessively fatigued bullpen.
Went to the game! My kids loved it, though we are all Cubs fans. We sat by Suzuki in RF and man he is just impressive.
So sad to see the Coliseum devolve to this though. It almost feels like you are visiting the ruins of a past civilization. Only concessions are on the field level infield basically, so a lot of the park has a closed off feeling. Even the mini baseball park near the Stomper fun zone was barricaded. The security guy nearby was apologetic that they hadn’t removed the barricades for the game, and said he’d remove them if we wanted but I told him not to bother. A allegory for the A’s season right there.
My kids and I had tickets up near the left field corner on the 2nd deck (?) and we tried to move to around 3B. They kicked us out after 1/2 an inning. When there were fewer than 10% of the seats taken up there. so maybe out in the OF they don't care but if you try to move inside the bases I guess they care.
I guess I understand, but that's still kind of lame. I remember going to games in the late 60s and the bleachers were gated off from the main part of the stadium until about the seventh inning. (This was pre-Mt Davis.) They usually only had concessions open in either right or left field and I would sit on whatever side of the bleachers was open. Especially for night games needed access to a hot chocolate.
I mean when the place is less than 5% full, though we did go to the Angels game so there were more, should they care? I guess it's to keep people from buying cheap seats and moving to the better one. But still, not making me want to go back and watch a game.
The A's are calling up two minor leaguers in the hope that they can come across a winning formula. I still see the team as a candidate for a 120 loss season.
At first glance, the San Francisco Giants started their Tuesday game against the Miami Marlins in perfect fashion. With a youngster, Edward Cabrera, who was averaging nearly two baserunners per inning on the mound, a path to success was laid out before them.
They took that path in the first inning.
After LaMonte Wade Jr. came a questionable call away from yet another walk, Thairo Estrada hit a one-out single. Perhaps signaling some aggression as the Giants try to force their way out of a slump, Estrada broke for second and successfully nabbed the base.
This year’s Dodgers team hasn’t played like they are accustomed during the first three weeks of the season, falling short of even subdued standards to open 2023. But they still have Clayton Kershaw, who dominated the Mets in a 5-0 victory to earn the 200th win of his illustrious career.
Kershaw allowed only three hits in seven innings, striking out nine, both matching season highs for Dodgers pitchers this season.
BERKELEY – Kade Kretzschmar continues to swing a hot bat. The senior outfielder went 3-for-4 with a double and two home runs as the Cal baseball team soundly defeated visiting USF 17-3 in seven innings on Tuesday night at Stu Gordon Stadium.
Cal (17-16) finished the night with a season-high 17 runs, 11 coming in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Golden Bears had 12 hits on the evening, six went for extra bases. Max Handron, Caleb Lomavita, and Kretzschmar all hit home runs. Kretschmar extended his hitting streak to eight games. With his three hits tonight, he has had seven-straight multi-hit games, including five-straight games with three or more hits.
BERKELEY – The No. 9 California beach volleyball team (23-6) is set for it first of two straight weekends at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium beginning this Friday at the Stanford Invitational. The Golden Bears open with a pair of matches with two teams they are undefeated against this season in No. 10 Stanford (22-10) and Saint Mary's (12-15), and finish on Saturday with a contest versus No. 7 Grand Canyon (20-5) and Pacific (0-18).
The Bears are winners of five straight and 11 of their last 12. They need four more wins to break the program record of 26 set last season.
BERKELEY – Senior right fielder Kade Kretzschmar has been named to a pair of weekly national awards. Kretzschmar, the reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week, was also named the D1Baseball.com and the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Player of the Week.
Kretzschmar led Cal to a 4-1 week that included a road Pac-12 series victory over Utah by slashing .714/.680/1.143 with five extra-base hits – two home runs, three doubles – in 21 at-bats while scoring six runs and driving in 10. The two home runs give him eight of the year, a new career-high. The left-handed slugger went 3-for-3 on Sunday and was a triple shy of the cycle in the series-clinching win over Utah.
PHOENIX – Graduate student Annika Borrelli shot under par for the second straight day and freshman Adora Liu came on strong in her first round of action at the Pac-12 Championships, putting the California women's golf team in sixth place with a 5-over 581 team score through 36 holes.
"We've been playing in some really cold weather," Cal head coach Nancy McDaniel said. "To be able to come down here and play desert golf with warm weather and fast greens, it's a really good challenge for this team and I thought they responded very well."
BERKELEY – The California softball team returns to Levine-Fricke Field for its fifth straight nonconference game on Wednesday with a 2 p.m. PT first pitch vs. Santa Clara.
The matchup between the Golden Bears and Broncos will air live on the Pac-12 Networks.
SAN FRANCISCO – After winning the Mt. SAC Relays elite discus section this past Saturday with the third-farthest throw in collegiate history, California track & field sophomore Mykolas Alekna has won the Pac-12 Men's Field Athlete of the Week award for the second straight time, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. It is the fourth conference honor for Cal athletes this season (Amari Turner, March 21; Tyler Burns, March 28).
The Golden Bears' star discus specialist posted a best throw of 68.35m (224-3) on Saturday to outdo 14 other top-tier competitors and officially claim the top-five marks on the NCAA's all-time list. This is the sixth career Pac-12 weekly award for Alekna, who was named the Pac-12 Men's Field Athlete and Freshman of the Year as a rookie.

Honeycrisp or die!
Try Sugarbees. They're a honeycrisp crossed with something else. They're amazing. Berkeley Bowl has them all year I think.
I'd say, 1A Sugarbee. 1B Honeycrisp. 2 Fuji. everything else
Wow, that is not what I’d choose if I still had access to the Berkeley Bowl. Ambrosia for life!
(Cosmic Crisp are good too but sometimes have a bitter section.)
Strong words! Will try!!!
They are sweeter than a honeycrisp so if you think a honeycrisp is sweet enough, you may not like them.
I find the short squat ones the best with a matte finish, in both honeycrisps and sugarbees. I don't like the bigger shiny ones as much.

Tapatio isn't even that spicy. It's all about the ratio of vinegar to pepper.
For Tapatio the label ingredients are water, red pepper, salt, spices, acetic acid (vinegar).
Crystal hot sauce ingredients are aged red cayenne pepper, distilled vinegar, salt.
Tabasco's label ingredients are vinegar, red pepper, salt.
The higher on the ingredients list is the vinegar, the hotter the hot sauce.
I was introduced to Tabasco by my mother as a kid and that's been the standard for hot sauce from that time forward.
I'm not the biggest fan of Tabasco and much prefer Crystal instead. Tapatio and Cholula are both excellent Mexican sauces. I'll try anything, though, with any kind of heat. Yum!
