We had some rain this morning so I put off my run into the afternoon. I went by the Swedish Embassy and their flags were at half-staff. In memory of Joe Kapp?
I like the picture. I went for a walk yesterday evening and it was near low tide. The marsh on the island where I walk was almost drained and there was just a pool near one end. A green heron was on the edge of the water having its dinner. Looked a lot like the picture.
Frequently still up past midnight then up by 5:00 / 6:00 depending on the time of the first meeting on the calendar, usually with a mix of peeps across all US time zones (except HI and AK). Weekends allow for sleeping in to 7:00!
I start late and usually work from around 11am to 6pm, then get dinner, relax, and work a bit more around midnight before I go to sleep, then by the time I'm ready to go to bed around 2am, baseball game starts in Japan (6pm), so I watch a couple hours and then fall asleep somewhere around 3:30~5am.
I have my own business and all of my customers are in Japan, so I communicate with them at my night time. The problem is, most of my vendors are on east coast so by the time I try to reach them, they are ready to go home.
Not really either. I'm pretty good about going to bed around 11 (exception last night with the Dubs game and Nats playing in SF.) But I'm a fitful sleeper so am not up early trying to get in enough rest.
i love being up early when it is quiet and no one else around. also there were many years of finance job where i had to be at my desk in NYC by 630a-700a and i was not too bothered.
on the other hand, watching west coast sports from east coast keeps you up pretty late. plus, i love being out late at night in a place like NYC. happy to have a 900p dinner with drinks before or after.
i tend to sleep 6-ish hours many nights and make it up w/ a few nights a week much longer.
Kerr coaching the W's right out of the playoffs. Run the f-ing pick and roll with Curry, Steve, ya bozo.
A complete disappearing act by the heartless and massively overpaid Jordan Poole, a reversion to the career mean for Andrew Wiggins (understandable, given he's missed so much time), and a Game 4 no-show from Klay Thompson did not help matters...
I am just completely sanguine about whatever happens this season. Dynasties don't last forever and if need be, last season can be the perfect capper for the Steph era of championships.
Or if they come back and win this thing, even better!
That's fair. Plus that Finals run last year was so magically fun, tough to get too down on this team. Just hate losing to the Lakers, and the Poole regression is disappointing.
for me, the frustration is that they still show dynasty-level play...until they don't. and it's not (usually) "oh well, the other teams have caught up" or "they old, Ernie" (altho it's a bit of that).
it's more "take the fucking game more seriously and stop being such shit-for-brains". calling non-existent timeouts. NOT calling TO, but rather throwing the ball to the wind (like yesterday). the number of late-game meltdowns they had this season. They easily coulda been the 3 seed.
I think the big thing is Poole looking so bad. He can't come in and give Steph a spell. This year's Warriors are like UNC from last year. Basically the starting 5 play almost the whole game. At least DDV, GP2, and Moody are giving some decent minutes.
Poole has been (mostly) shit this season. But many of their bonehead (come from ahead) losses – both regular season and yesterday – have been from the Big 3.
But I think the boneheadedness and poor shooting on Steph's part is that he'd playing 5 to 6 minutes more than they'd like. Because Poole isn't helping.
And if HB had hit the 3-pointed n Game 4 – after Steph's brain freeze – we wouldn't even be here talking about it...and Peetyjay would be happy, it seems.
I'm really interested in that alternative timeline.
Capping off the 73-win season with a chip, and denying LBJ the CLE title would have been grand.
In my alt universe, HB accepts the 4-year/$60M (or whatever it was) mid-season offer and stays...and plays better in the Finals.
The KD years were fun, but not as enjoyable. If HB had stayed, then all the "super team" bullshit woulda been blocked (even tho the Dubs were more homegrown than any other super team (especially the LBJ and KD ones)). And they didn't overpay for KD. he was like only $4M more than HB got from Dallas.
In this universe, Festus stays and doesn't get hurt.
Of course, if we don't have KD, sign-and-trade KD, then we have no Wiggs or JK. And (butterfly effect), Klay doesn't tear up his leg twice.
I am not happy about this. After watching my Kings fall to the Warriors, I wanted more than anything for the Warriors to knock the Lakers out of contention.
The Dubs went up 3 on a beautiful series of passes culminating in a Klay three, with like 2:45 left. After that Klay and Steph mostly took a series of absolutely terrible three point attempts off the dribble and gave the game away. Draymond’s boner on the last play was just the cherry on top of that sad display of execution. They just needed to keep playing their normal style of passing and cutting, not sure why they abandoned it
Is that what happened? I guess he has whatever Loons has. No 1 joked he had to go poop real bad. Maybe that wasn't that far off if he had a mouth full of vomit.
what would be the result if he'd yakked on the court? maybe on Schröder? at least Dray wouln'dt have thrown the ball to where GPII was supposed to have been.
[in a sense, that play shows how high-level Dray is. he *expected* GPII to be there w/o looking. he knows where *everyone* is supposed to be.]
Saw GOTG Vol 3 with Twist in the Dub Cee - enjoyed it immensely - but there is a lot of trauma and implied animal trauma that can be disturbing to more sensitive individuals
I watched the first couple of episodes and enjoyed. I will go back. I like Sian Clifford...she was great in Fleabag. The 2 scientists in the lab are good too.
What is just not the “flex” that people think it is?
Driving a Mustang or Challenger.
Or a Bimmer, amirite? Cugel?
Hello - it really depends on the model.

All good choices to today's poll.
Pulitzer Prizes announced and once again the Write for California staff has been ignored. Scandalous!

Yeah, yeah, yeah but what about the injustice of the current WFC staff's writing going ignored?

We're putting together a DBD "Summer Jams" mix-tape. What song are you putting on it because it just has a summer vibe?
"In the Summertime" - Mungo Jerry
"Heat Waves" Glass Animals
"In Da Summer" Three Six Mafia
"Just One Second" London Elektricity
"Let's Talk Turkey" Ima Robot
*54-46 Was My Number - Toots and the Maytals
*You and Your Heart - Jack Johnson
*Northern Sky - Nick Drake
*Theologians - Wilco
That Toots and the Maytals song is an absolute classic
A movie that contains a scene / scenes that made your heart drop to your stomach
Not really a scene, but I made the mistake of watching “Every Brilliant Thing” on an airplane once and had to bawl my eyes out in front of everyone.
Grave of the Fireflies
The whole thing, pretty much.
Yeah, not surprised, thought about it several times, but never pulled the trigger.
Most recently- Pan's Labyrinth - I cried like an adult baby at end, it hit me so hard. Never seen it again.
Are you a night owl or an early bird?
Yes.
Frequently still up past midnight then up by 5:00 / 6:00 depending on the time of the first meeting on the calendar, usually with a mix of peeps across all US time zones (except HI and AK). Weekends allow for sleeping in to 7:00!
Night. I just woke up.
I go to bed around 4am
wow. that is about as late as i have ever heard of someone going to sleep regularly.

I figured that Japanese time zone was gonna be a big part of the answer! ;-)
I am a night owl who, as I've grown older, become envious of how productive morning people are.
Early...
I'm a forced early bird with night owl tendencies.
At work by 7:00 AM, sometimes by 6:30 AM. On weekends, I tend to stay up later, sometimes as late as midnight.
Not really either. I'm pretty good about going to bed around 11 (exception last night with the Dubs game and Nats playing in SF.) But I'm a fitful sleeper so am not up early trying to get in enough rest.
a little bit of both ..

I'm posting here at 6:50 AM local time, if that answers your question.
Did you stay up all night tho?
;-)
Last night I didn't hit the sack until 9:45, pretty late for me on a "school night."

Sorry, as a Lakers fan, of course I was happy, Dubs did make some good game change from too much reliance on 3's in game 3.

so much this
agreed, this season has been so hit or miss that my expectations are already exceeded by getting into 2nd round of playoffs.
for me, the frustration is that they still show dynasty-level play...until they don't. and it's not (usually) "oh well, the other teams have caught up" or "they old, Ernie" (altho it's a bit of that).

The sloppy play is maddening. Tough to imagine Jordan’s Bulls pissing games away like this.
altho having beaten SAC, they are now the 3 seed (unless they had the chance to play PHX in the CF).
I think the big thing is Poole looking so bad. He can't come in and give Steph a spell. This year's Warriors are like UNC from last year. Basically the starting 5 play almost the whole game. At least DDV, GP2, and Moody are giving some decent minutes.
Yep, Poole disappearing has been the most disappointing story of the playoffs (and really much of the season)
If HB hit big 3s in the playoffs, Warriors never would have had KD. too soon?
I'm really interested in that alternative timeline.
Capping off the 73-win season with a chip, and denying LBJ the CLE title would have been grand.
In my alt universe, HB accepts the 4-year/$60M (or whatever it was) mid-season offer and stays...and plays better in the Finals.

Draymond’s boner on the last play was just the cherry on top of that sad display of execution. They just needed to keep playing their normal style of passing and cutting, not sure why they abandoned it
Dray had two of those bad plays, although the first was partly due to GPII sprinting off the court with what appeared to be a mouth full of vomit
Is that what happened? I guess he has whatever Loons has. No 1 joked he had to go poop real bad. Maybe that wasn't that far off if he had a mouth full of vomit.
There is one shot of him playing D with his mouth full and as soon as the Warriors got the ball he sprinted into the tunnel
what would be the result if he'd yakked on the court? maybe on Schröder? at least Dray wouln'dt have thrown the ball to where GPII was supposed to have been.
[in a sense, that play shows how high-level Dray is. he *expected* GPII to be there w/o looking. he knows where *everyone* is supposed to be.]
Ah I guess I missed that.
they are a strange bunch. but i agree, when they are passing and moving it is fun to watch and usually good things happen.

Unstable on Netflix. Anyone? It's funny, but has that "too clever" back and forth that makes it feel like is was written by AI.
And of course, major nepo show

btw, did you ever see the other series by Waller-Bridge? Crashing. Bummed that it didn't continue
