Warriors beat Lakers 121-106 to pull back to a 3-2 disadvantage

I forgot they were playing. I was a little late going to bed but even then when I turned on the radio news as I fell asleep it was only the middle of the third period. Never would have made it to the end.

By midnight I figured the Dubs had it mostly in hand, so I went to bed. I was surprised to hear this morning that AD was taken away in a wheelchair. Apparently he's set to play on Friday despite that.

Expand full comment

As a Lakers fan, I did not forget. Really hope Anthony Harris isn't hurt - hauled away on a wheelchair? Yikes!

Expand full comment

is Anthony Harris an inside joke? Or an auto-correct thing?

Seems that concussion symptoms kick in on Day 2, so yesterday's "he'll be fine" might have been premature.

would rather have him play, just so if the Dubs win, there won't be the usual "oh, so-and-so was hurt" crap. But part of me wants to take whatever I can get to make it to the Conf Finals...(why oh why did the Dubs have to shit the bed in Q4 of G4?!? Being up 3-2 at this point would be so lovely. And the "road win" streak would be alive!)

Just a goof.

This has to be the thing you guys have been worried about the whole time: AD staying healthy for a full playoff run.

Expand full comment

Exactly

Expand full comment

IMO this is why Jokic is much better than Embiid or AD. Those other guys are just always injured, esp in playoffs, and somehow Joker never is. I think he was smart to slim down in the off-season a few years ago - focus his training more on endurance than on power

Townhall with Trump on CNN was a disaster. Moderator Katilan Collins gets absolutely steamrollered by Trump. Trump essentially got a free election rally on CNN.

Expand full comment

I didn't know this until I saw it on Twitter last night - Kaitlin Collins got her start at the Daily Caller doing things like repeating "George Soros Great Replacement" trash on Fox News segments, publishing articles like "Syrians who are so hot we should take them as refugees first," etc. Anyone would think that there's been a shift at CNN after they took on more explicitly right wing ownership and corporate management.

Why would they even give him the airtime? Especially with 18 months until the election?

Ratings baby! They are way behind Fox and MSNBC. I’m sure they were hoping for a car wreck to titillate the gooseneckers and they got it!

Fucks that I give: 0.0

I agree that the opinions on Trump are baked in. What I don't appreciate is that our supposedly "free" press is slave enough to the ratings that they continue to give free airtime to a politician with obvious autocratic tendencies. In doing so, they keep the base riled up and hurt the fabric of our democracy instead of helping it. CNN and other major media outlets do this in the name of journalistic standards when, in fact, it's all about the ratings and the dollars.

I hope that eventually it will die out, but that seems to me to be wishful thinking. People with anti-democratic tendencies have always been around, a great many of them simply chose to hide themselves until Trump came along and made it okay to behave like a jackbooted brownshirt. Those same hardliners are driving much of the issues which should not be taking up any oxygen in the political sphere - debt ceiling, bodily autonomy, anti-science attitudes towards healthcare and public health, litmus tests for members of the federal judiciary, and clamping down on dissent based on immutable characteristics (skin color, perceived gender expression, etc.).

Expand full comment

It was terrible but I would think the opinions on trump are pretty much baked in at this point.

I think trump looked terrible, per usual and I would hope the very small number of undecided voters felt the same.

Watching Sanctuary on Netflix. A somewhat basic "sports" show, but the sport happens to be sumo, so it has that uniqueness going for it. And with most sports shows (e.g., Ted Lasso), the action is somewhat unrealistic. Lots of scenes with bad sumo physics.

Black Crab (Svart Krabba) - Netflix. Swedish film starring Noomi Rapace, Dar Salim. Interesting premise, and despite there being some major unanswered questions, I enjoyed the first 2/3, even 3/4 of it…then it just fell apart. Bummer. Makes me wanna go to Sweden, tho.

Well... I watch some comedies I can't say I really love, I think my wife likes them better than me. "Somebody, Somewhere" on HBO, set in Kansas, interesting, calm, but doesn't get me laughing that much, nice to have a setting that isn't a big city. "the Other Two" also HBO I think - set in big star (Mom) in NYC - it can be pretty funny, but I don't care about what happens to the characters as much as one should when watching a comedy.

We've been watching Somebody, Somewhere. Agreed that it's more of a show with some comedic moments rather than a comedy, but we're enjoying it. There's something quite warm and comfy about it that makes it enjoyable
