there was a fun Netflix show i saw recently where a bunch a HS students were running around looking for some ancient Mexican artifacts at Graceland or some other Elvis historic site.
National Treasure: Edge of History, a Disney+ original that premiered in December 2022. This action-adventure series follows Jess Valenzuela, a young DACA recipient living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who discovers her family's connection to a secret network of treasure protectors. The show features a diverse cast and explores themes of heritage, identity, and adventure
I made two different great dishes over the past two nights - a really great version of Chicken Pepian Rojo - one of the national dishes of Guatemala. My version adds tomatillos, all the items were bruleed under a broiler, and I used chicken consomme rather than water.
I am so jealous of the good pizza in your area. We only have a few merely decent places and I swear they are booked solid all the time. I swear to Oski, how hard is it to make good pizza?
Actually that's why the guy I bought my Ooni from did. He said he used it like 14 times and I asked why he was selling and he decided to build one. That would be cool. This was middle of Covid so he had plenty of time to do it.
United provided some sort of braised chicken stew, lentil stew, or Beef Lasagna with Bolognese sauce. I went with the Lasagna. It's alright. Better than some of the other stuff I've had. Their Butter Chicken was the best thing I've had on a plane over the last few years.
The midflight snack is sour cream and onion minis.
The arrival meal is either 4 cheese pizza twist or basil pesto chicken pizza twist. Think I'm going for the chicken.
united food is so meh. Even Premium economy. My flight attendant looks like Jake Tapper.
In the European Theater, the "Lost Battalion" was the 1st Battalion, 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division. In October 1944, they were surrounded by German forces in the Vosges Mountains of France. After several days of heavy fighting and failed rescue attempts by other American units, the Japanese-American 442nd Regimental Combat Team, despite heavy casualties, broke through German lines and rescued approximately 211 of the trapped soldiers. My grandfather claimed to have been in the 100/442nd, and my dad said he saw his Purple Heart; I am skeptical.
In the Pacific Theater, the "Lost Battalion" was the 2nd Battalion, 131st Field Artillery Regiment, 36th Infantry Division. In March 1942, during the Battle of Java in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), these soldiers, along with survivors from the USS Houston, were captured by the Japanese. Their fate remained unknown to the U.S. until September 1944. They endured 42 months as prisoners of war, forced into harsh labor on projects like the Burma Railway. Of the 534 men captured, only 448 survived captivity.
Jami Gertz played the love interest in the Lost Boys. She is also known for her work in Ally McBeal and Entourage. She is one of Hollywood richest people as her husband and her are worth about $12b and are majority owners of the Atlanta Hawks and minority owners of the Brewers.
Atlantans see Jami a lot at Hawks games- I have seen multiple friend selfies with her (she is nice about it!). Even though she’s been in a ton of things, I always think of her in Square Pegs and also as the drunk girl in 16 Candles that chopped off the blond’s hair that was stuck in the door.
When SGB mentioned Entourage I was thinking the lady that Turtle dated. But then I remember that was Jamie Lynn Sigler, of Sopranos fame. I think they may have dated in real life.
The protagonist in the Lost Boys was named Michael Emerson. The actor who portrayed the antagonist Benjamin Linus in the series Lost was Michael Emerson.
This movie has a bittersweet place in my heart. I went to go watch it with my two best friends during summer between my sophomore and junior years. It was the perfect age and genre for us - gentle monster horror, kids finding their independence, teen angst, 80s rock vibe. It was the last thing we did together because one of us was killed in a car accident later that week.
I lasted about two episodes and got bored because the pacing is so slow and trying to be suspenseful. Can someone please convince me to watch it if it's worth it. The rest of the US seemed to have really liked it (except the series finale).
Somehow, the Mavs win the Cooper Flagg lottery as a 10 seed with just 1.8% chance of coming in first. So that's why the NBA didn't nullify the Luka trade. They were going to give the Mavs the #1 pick all along.
MSG was rockin' and rollin' last night. i have never seen it so loud.
Knicks kept the game close enough and played solid D in the 3rd/4th quarters to pull away. they were up 11 or 13 when Tatum went down. it looked immediately pretty bad. he went straight to the locker room.
also, a (classic) star-studded audience. aside from entertainers there were a lot of ex-Knicks, Spreewell, Larry Johnson, Marbury, Frazier, Starks, and more.
In a seemingly must-win Game 4 for the Golden State Warriors, the Dubs looked like a team missing the superstar that makes them click in a 117-110 blowout loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on their home floor. With Steph Curry sidelined, the Dubs have lost three consecutive games and will now face a win or go home Game 5 in Minnesota.
Not surprising. The plan all along I bet was to try to win 1 of the next 3 games to allow Steph to play in game 6, which has a 3 days in-between due to a Valkyries home game. I think their best bet was game 3, but it doesn't help that basically Podz, Moody, and every other player can't shoot.
I don’t know if the San Francisco Giants are better than the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tonight’s 2-1 loss was sort of a noble defeat in that the Giants played as well as they could for the time being and Arizona did, too. Turns out, Arizona has an edge from a talent perspective, which isn’t a surprise.
The skills that Peter Wright Director of Men's Tennis Kris Kwinta is teaching his student-athletes go well beyond forehands and backhands.
Kwinta, whose sister, Kasia, was born with cerebral palsy and passed away in 2023 at the age of 40, is set on making sure the perspective he gained from the experience rubs off on his pupils. That's one of the reasons he jumped at the chance to have his Golden Bears partner with Team Impact – an organization that pairs children facing serious illness or disabilities with college sports teams.
RENO, Nev. – The California men's golf team played just seven holes on the first day of the 2025 NCAA Reno Regional after high winds delayed tee times by more than seven hours at Montreux Golf & Country Club. First-round play was ultimately suspended at 6:10 p.m. PT due to inclement conditions – wind gusts reached 38 miles per hour, and temperatures dropped into the low 40s – with the Golden Bears in 13th place at 12-over-par, scattered across holes 11-15.
BERKELEY – The California softball team (35-19) earned an at-large bid to the 2025 NCAA Division I Softball Championship, where it will compete in the Norman Regional with host No. 2 seed Oklahoma, Omaha and Boston.
The Golden Bears will make their 36th all-time NCAA postseason appearance and mark their third consecutive trip to the NCAA Regionals.
BERKELEY – The California baseball team (20-29, 7-20 ACC) fell 5-1 to No. 2 Florida State (36-11, 16-8 ACC) in the rubber match Sunday of a three-game ACC series at Stu Gordon Stadium on Mother's Day. The Bears had shut out the Seminoles, 5-0, on Saturday, to even the series after Florida State's 8-2 victory on Friday evening.

Buy an Ooni and I can give you a great pizza dough and sauce recipe.
build a brick pizza oven...even better!

we built one and retired the Ooni to the garage. Ooni was good, pizza oven is legitimately great. Flavor and texture multiplier

There were two "Lost Batallion" in World War II.

__ in Space
one of the most enduring lines of TV from my childhood ..
DANGER, WILL ROBINSON.
I generally enjoyed the Lost in Space reboot show on Netflix, as well as the Lost in Space movie from the late 90s.
- Boys. Didn't watch the movie but I do remember when it came out.
Jami Gertz played the love interest in the Lost Boys. She is also known for her work in Ally McBeal and Entourage. She is one of Hollywood richest people as her husband and her are worth about $12b and are majority owners of the Atlanta Hawks and minority owners of the Brewers.
That is STRONG knowledge. Well done.
Before I looked it up I was trying to remember where I recognized the name from. Square Pegs it is.
I think Michael Emerson was in Person of Interest.
This is one of those where I think you had to see it as an angsty teen to have affection for it. If you watch it later it's not very good.
The snapshot-in-time of 80s Santa Cruz is pretty cool though.
Mrs Slug and I saw that film on its release. We recognized several spots in Santa Cruz, although it'd be a challenge now to name them.
I watched about the first 10-15 min of the premiere and didn't really like it so I stopped watching.
I lasted about two episodes and got bored because the pacing is so slow and trying to be suspenseful. Can someone please convince me to watch it if it's worth it. The rest of the US seemed to have really liked it (except the series finale).
