I actually really enjoyed seasons 1 and 2, when I had STARZ…season 3 is out and I haven’t watched the latest season yet, but back in my drinking days, Provincetown seemed as good a place as any to throw down 9 shots of Jameson.
We'll be near Lourmarin, a bit north of Aix, for three nights, and then in St Rémy for four. Staying at some cool guesthouses (that description seriously undersells them) owned by a couple of stylish gay dudes, aka the best kind of hotel.
Just working. No 2 and 3 will be back this summer. No 1 may or may not come out here. He got money from Penn to go to paris for 3 months Aug - Nov and is waiting on hearing from various fellowships for a year in Paris, or Florence, or Rome. So we'll be doing some traveling later this year or next year.
planning summer travel, been working out on a consistent basis, drinking less (not on weekdays).
work is a little unsettled. looking for a different role internally since i am not really doing the thing i was hired to do (use ML to improve quantum computers).
also, it was exactly a year ago that 17 yr old was in hospital for mental health issues. we have come a long way since then and things are generally looking positive on many fronts.
A few minutes before the San Francisco Giants JV squad hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers in a fight so unfair that even Nevada would not have sanctioned it, I wrote a tweet. It wasn’t a special tweet, per se. Perhaps not even a good one.
How do Giants fans feel about him so far? Obviously with small sample size caveats, but KBO to MLB is a pretty big jump (bigger than NPB to MLB), just curious how folks think of him after watching him for a month
I like him enough. He plays a Major League CF, and is solid enough with the bat. He’ll never be elite at anything offensively, but can be a serviceable big leaguer.
He’s just not the lead off hitter on a World Series club, but guess he fits that role well enough on the fringe Wildcard contender that Farhan, Baer and the idiot Johnsons want for this franchise.
From what I've seen (limited games), I think he'll be a pretty good player. Seems to be good defensively. Giants could've used him the last couple of games. I feel like he could've gotten Will Smith's double in the 10th in the first game. His bat to ball skills also seem above average.
Hitting and fielding have been mostly good. Announcers said that KBO stadiums are all covered, so he had no experience fielding a ball on a sunny day, and that was a problem for a while. But that’s gotten better. He gets a good jump on the ball.
Gavin Stone added another strong start in a growing string of them, and the Dodgers offense poured it on in the middle innings to beat the Giants 10-2 on Tuesday night at Oracle Park in San Francisco.
Stone allowed baserunners in five of his six innings, and walked more (three) than he struck out (two). But he didn’t give up a run until two outs in the sixth inning, thanks to holding San Francisco to just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position, including a slew of groundball outs in tight situations.
Slovakian PM shot five times in attempted assassination. Details are sparse, but this is negative for the pro-democracy forces in the area as PM Fico had a pro-Russian/anti-American view. If he lives, he'll be unimpeachable due to sympathy. If he dies, he'll be a martyr.
Hakeem Jeffries would be very interesting, though I think the only US Representative to be elected to the presidency was James A. Garfield. The only other president who came close was Gerald Ford, who was a US Rep immediately before Nixon tapped him to succeed Spiro Agnew as Vice President. There was about 7 or 8 months between Ford's confirmation as VP and Nixon's resignation.
Many presidents have served in the US House of Representatives or as US Senators, or even as Governors. Some of the earliest presidents have also served as Secretary of State.
Thirteen presidents have served as Vice President prior to being President themselves; eight have acceded on the death of their predecessor, four of which were following an assassination.
You know, as a conceptual comment, in this Olympic year it strikes me that we have all these well thought out systems to identify and develop athletic talent of all kinds, but very little in the way of a system for identifying and developing political talent. It would make sense for the parties to identify and develop talent more systematically. For instance, for executive figurehead type jobs, could consider seeking out actors as the raw material. For legislative jobs, maybe you go more with professor types.
Raskin is a good pick. Old and experienced enough to do the political grind, not too old, whip smart but married to someone arguably smarter than him, and doesn't suffer fools.
I just realized that there is an ACC game (FSU vs. GA Tech) in Dublin on August 24th, but I'll be in western Ireland rather than Dublin that day. I wish I planned this out better. That would have been cool to cheer for anybody who plays against FSU.
I'm doing a driving vacay with my kiddo - doing a clockwise ring around the Republic of Ireland - Glendalough, Wicklow, Wexford, Waterford, Cork, Dingle area, Ring of Kerry, perhaps Galway, and then Dublin for a few days. I am thinking of skipping Galway because of the cost and it seems to be more of the same up that area vs. Dingle, Kerry, and County Clare.
I know next to nothing about Ireland, but did read a book that an Irish friend gave me called something like Round Ireland with a Fridge. Amusing book and might give you some travel ideas...altho when I re-read it (a few years ago, after first reading it 20-ish years ago), I found that the bits where he discussed Asians to be not cool.
Any way to know why the approval was for 3 years instead of the recommended 6? I haven't seen anything to suggest a reason why the president's recommendation was modified.
How's it hanging?
Cranky AF of late.
Fine. I am working all week in an AirBnB in Provincetown MA, a cute little antique house in the middle of town.
You should check out High Town on STARZ
I checked out the trailer. Guess what. My AirBnB is at 1:07 of the trailer.

I'm positive about him. He's better hitting than I thought he'd be, and he seems like a delightful human.

We just got done having to put up with West Virginia and Maryland political ads. I thought we were done after yesterday’s primaries. But no, watching the noon news a new ad pops up for a Virginia congressional race. It was for Eugene Vindaman who had a part in a Trump impeachment. While researching the Virginia 7th district I came across this about the Indiana 7th district. Republicans voted for a deceased person to run. https://www.wthr.com/article/news/politics/elections/decision-2024/deceased-woman-jennifer-pace-wins-republican-nomination-for-7th-congressional-district-andre-carson/531-f04c95df-afea-45b7-9d2c-d40fc2351c94

If you could pick any eligible citizen to be president the United States effective January 10, 2025, who would it be?
Scootie

If she were younger I'd go with Elizabeth Warren but she's not so Gavin although I like Jeffries or FiatSlug.
I'd serve my country, but Mrs Slug would never go to Washington. She hates to fly.
I’d go with Hakeem Jefferies
Steve Kerr. Or Jamie Raskin, but only if Jamie wanted it. He's been through a lot recently. I'm OK with just making Steve do it.
Raskin is a good pick. Old and experienced enough to do the political grind, not too old, whip smart but married to someone arguably smarter than him, and doesn't suffer fools.
Sonja Henie's out; we'll take Gavin Newsom.
Jon Stewart. The person that doesn't want the job is the perfect person for the job.
i dont have a firm person in mind . but someone < 65 yrs old would be nice.
That rules me out.
Me too, but I wasn’t running anyway.
