I have been expiramenting with elevating low-brow American fare with the idea of introducing it in Europe - previously it was chicken 'n biscuits. Today, I am elevating Tuna Noodle Casserole. I made a proper cream of mushroom soup with roasted maitake, shitake, and brown mushrooms blended in a velouté made with homemade consomme, gently sweated some mirpoix in the tuna water, sweat a bunch of veggies like bell pepper and zuccinni and bit more shiitake for texture. Added a sprinkle of black beans. Add the tuna and egg noodles. Add good parmesan. Splash of cream. It looks like your gam-gam's casserole, but tastes like Michelin guide. The veggies are still firm. The tuna flavor is subtle, but with a luxurious chicken/mushroom/parmesan umami bass. Perhaps needs a bit of acid something in it to bright the topside - maybe capers. The inspiration of this is the can o' Campbell's soup recipe.

which type of "cheating" do you think is more acceptable and/or better for getting better long term ...
1 - use the "check puzzle" feature to tell you what you have right/wrong
2 - just look up info on the internet when you have no idea what they are talking about.
for me (1) seems like cheating less while i am more likely to learn something new with (2) and that leads to some long-term addition to the pile of trivial knowledge i have.
i waver between using this or not. lately i have been doing it more and more to expedite checking in. it is hit-or-miss as to whether it is available or not.
there is also a question of what is an appropriate tip .. i used to think a $1/bag was fine but that was a long time ago. is usually give the person $10-20 these days for the whole transaction.
I think I would only consider this if there was a long line in the terminal. In SFO with the bag drop, it doesn't take that long. If I have a carry on then I just take it with me and don't check it in.
For the second time in two nights the A’s got punched in the mouth by the Los Angeles Dodgers, losing tonight in an embarrassing 19-2 contest that drops the Athletics back to the .500 mark for the first time since April 29th. Time to turn our sights on San Francisco.
LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers carried over their late rally from Wednesday well into Thursday, bludgeoning the A’s 19-2 in a game that provided relief in several ways.
After scoring three runs in each of the first two innings, the Dodgers got two three-run home runs in the third inning alone, by Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages. Ohtani also hit a two-run home run in the fourth, his 15th of the season to tie for the major league lead.
I asked Google Gemeni to predict who would win the Cal/Oregon State game. Gemini waffled by saying it was too early to tell. I then told it to guess and show its reasoning. It predicted Oregon State citing that it was a home game (okay), first games are emotional (yeah, they're emotional for both sides), and because Cal travels too much (uh, it's a 2 hour flight and it's the first game). I told Gemeni to consider strength of schedule and it said Cal had a much stronger strength of schedule and did better accordingly and it STILL picked Oregon state, adding to its analysis that Oregon State had added a bunch of new talent and that Cal lost a bunch of talent. I then pointed out that Cal replaced that lost talent with new talent and that Cal smashed Oregon State 44-7 in 2024. Gemini finally said "yeah, that's a really good point" and changed its mind to a Cal win.
BERKELEY – The buzz was back at Stu Gordon Stadium on Thursday night when Max Handron and Jacob French both homered in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the California baseball team to an 8-6 walk-off and comeback win over Boston College in the opener of a three-game ACC series. Both homers were two-run blasts with French's tying the contest at 6-6 before Handron's ended it two batters later.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Two-and-a-half months after winning the women's weight throw title with a new facility record at the ACC Indoor Championships, California track & field's Giavonna Meeks treated spectators with a repeat performance in the women's hammer at the ACC Outdoor Championships, shattering the Kentner Stadium facility record with a personal-best throw of 67.86m (222-8) on her way to her second ACC title. Meeks became the third woman in Cal history to win a conference title in the event, following alumnae Jennifer Joyce (2002) and Camryn Rogers (2019, 2021-22).
BERKELEY – No. 2 California will compete in the first-ever MPSF Men's Rowing Championships this weekend at Lake Natoma in Gold River.
Men's rowing was added to the MPSF before the start of the 2024-25 season, becoming the conference's 15th sport. Racing begins at 12:30 p.m. PT Saturday and extends through Sunday morning. The Golden Bears will race their first through third varsity eights, first varsity four and freshmen eight boats. The MPSF title will be awarded to the winner of the varsity eight grand final.
Cal's sophomore middle infielders Jarren Advincula and PJ Moutzouridis are almost always mentioned in the same breath. One is rarely talked about without mention of the other – and for good reason.
The biggest difference between them might just be that Advincula grew up an A's fan and Moutzouridis had an allegiance to the Giants. But the paths each took to Berkeley are far more similar than different.
Four California softball players earned All-Region recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday.
