I'm re-reading Jan Morris's Hong Kong - the final edition of which was published in 1997. It's an amazing document to how BRITISH HK used to be and just how much has changed in 25 years. It varies from slightly to overwhelmingly orientalist in tone but she's also a gifted and engaging author.
Recently read "Ways and Means" by Roger Lowenstein, a book about the financing of the Civil War and in my opinion a very good book. I'm someone who knows quite a bit about the period, but this issue honestly is much more important than the amount of attention it receives. One of the greatest ironies is the Confederates fight for state's rights (to have slaves) utterly and completely changed the Federal government into what it is today. In the first year of the war, it racked up more debts than it had in the preceding 72 years.
I saw him speak at Cody’s Books on Telegraph. Slaughterhouse Five is his best work, but he has a long bibliography of very high level, enjoyable reads. Enjoy!

Despite a variety of state-wide and national (Congressional) races with large or diverse choices, and a significant number of compelling races and financial matters in a lot of locals, the Oregon turnout for yesterday's primary is unlikely to reach 30%. Communities with 1/3 participation are ones with a big turnout. This in a time when perceived political division is at an all time high. Is that a product of spectacular coverage exaggerating some of the issues? Or do people "care", but have largely given up on the electoral process? (Neither scenario is at all reassuring.)

That's weird. The same picture showed up on a story that showed up in my news feed. The rest of the story I saw was video of them at a Dodgers game over the weekend. Didn't see the Furd hat on the video from the baseball game.
The baseball was flying out of Dodger Stadium in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader. The six home runs are the most in any Dodgers game this season, and the home team hit four of them to beat the Diamondbacks, 7-6.
Tuesday afternoon followed a pattern similar to Monday night, with Arizona taking an early lead, and the Dodgers offense getting handcuffed in the early going by the D-backs starting pitcher. After not scoring until the fifth inning against Madison Bumgarner in the series opener, the Dodgers finally got on the board in the fourth inning on Tuesday, when Will Smith homered off Tyler Gilbert.
The sixth inning was when the floodgates opened, with four hits, two walks and five runs against Gilbert. Three of those hits were home runs, including the third long ball by Mookie Betts in his last four games, and the first time Trea Turner and Justin Turner homered in the same inning.
After three straight one-run victories, the Dodgers’ latest comeback win came with some distance, piling on the Diamondbacks 12-3 on Tuesday night to complete a doubleheader sweep at Dodger Stadium.
The first win of the day for the Dodgers featured four home runs under the sun, and one double. The nightcap saw Los Angeles hit one home run but added five doubles, including Freddie Freeman tying a single-game franchise record with three doubles, tying him for the major league lead with 14 doubles of the season. He drove in three and scored twice.
Gavin Lux gave the Dodgers’ the lead with a two-run double in the second.
Was watching last night with friends at a bar in Boston. Had to step out during halftime to make a call. I mentioned to the person on the phone how the Celtics were looking solid.. Then I came back in halfway through the 3rd and did a double take at the tv screen. On the positive side, we had some very delicious Korean style fried chicken wings.
Giants win 12th straight game over the Rockies. Was looking like a blowout, but there's no such thing at Coors. Tying run got to bat in the bottom of the 9th, but CF Slater dove to catch a shallow bloop to end the game 10-7.
The San Francisco Giants did a funny and cool thing against the Colorado Rockies, and it was the type of funny and cool thing that you can only do at Coors Field, which is a place that breeds funniness and coolness, except for when it’s breeding annoyance and aggravation.
They led off the first and second innings with four-bag hits that could not have been any less similar had they tried.
The first one came on the second pitch of the day. It was Tommy La Stella, the guy a lot of Giants fans didn’t seem to want mucking up a rather lovely roster.
Mired in a long teamwide slump, the A’s put together five runs on Tuesday, beating the Minnesota Twins by a 5-2 margin at the Coliseum.
Oakland is one of the lowest-scoring teams in the majors this year, and over their past two dozen games they were averaging a mere 2.4 runs per contest, including five shutouts. Each of the last three days they were limited to one run apiece, including last night in the series opener against the Twins.

Ok, fattest solved and least obese has two answers established. Scattershot for the remaining least obese state: Washington, New York, New Mexico
⬜⬜⬜, but + for the scattershot strategy
I know Colorado was one of the least obese and Hawaii also makes sense.
I'll take a random stab and say the other one is Connecticut.

I looked it up, the remaining state is indeed in the Northeast
Agh, I was so close! Looks like CT is fourth.

Is it New Hampshire? I was thinking that but didn't put it down.

i would go with obese == poverty, fit == geography/climate/lifestyle, so..
most: Mississippi, Louisiana, West Virginia
least: Colorado, Vermont, Montana

Fattest: Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky. Fittest: Colorado, California, Oregon

Hawaii on fattest?
fattest? Kentucky's gotta be up there.
least: Florida? I would say Ca, Or, Wa but I'm going to guess they aren't on there. Surprising, so maybe Alaska, Hawaii?
