The San Francisco Giants did a funny and cool thing against the Colorado Rockies, and it was the type of funny and cool thing that you can only do at Coors Field, which is a place that breeds funniness and coolness, except for when it’s breeding annoyance and aggravation.

They led off the first and second innings with four-bag hits that could not have been any less similar had they tried.

The first one came on the second pitch of the day. It was Tommy La Stella, the guy a lot of Giants fans didn’t seem to want mucking up a rather lovely roster.

Mookie Betts stays hot, Dodgers hit 4 home runs to beat Diamondbacks

https://www.truebluela.com/2022/5/17/23100497/dodgers-home-runs-mookie-betts-hot-streak-diamondbacks-game-1

The baseball was flying out of Dodger Stadium in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader. The six home runs are the most in any Dodgers game this season, and the home team hit four of them to beat the Diamondbacks, 7-6.

Tuesday afternoon followed a pattern similar to Monday night, with Arizona taking an early lead, and the Dodgers offense getting handcuffed in the early going by the D-backs starting pitcher. After not scoring until the fifth inning against Madison Bumgarner in the series opener, the Dodgers finally got on the board in the fourth inning on Tuesday, when Will Smith homered off Tyler Gilbert.

The sixth inning was when the floodgates opened, with four hits, two walks and five runs against Gilbert. Three of those hits were home runs, including the third long ball by Mookie Betts in his last four games, and the first time Trea Turner and Justin Turner homered in the same inning.

After three straight one-run victories, the Dodgers’ latest comeback win came with some distance, piling on the Diamondbacks 12-3 on Tuesday night to complete a doubleheader sweep at Dodger Stadium.

The first win of the day for the Dodgers featured four home runs under the sun, and one double. The nightcap saw Los Angeles hit one home run but added five doubles, including Freddie Freeman tying a single-game franchise record with three doubles, tying him for the major league lead with 14 doubles of the season. He drove in three and scored twice.

Gavin Lux gave the Dodgers’ the lead with a two-run double in the second.

Recently read "Ways and Means" by Roger Lowenstein, a book about the financing of the Civil War and in my opinion a very good book. I'm someone who knows quite a bit about the period, but this issue honestly is much more important than the amount of attention it receives. One of the greatest ironies is the Confederates fight for state's rights (to have slaves) utterly and completely changed the Federal government into what it is today. In the first year of the war, it racked up more debts than it had in the preceding 72 years.
