So I called CPUC because PG&E still hasn't given me any credit for the large solar array that was installed December 2020 - contractor made some errors, the City signed off April 2021, PG&E signed off December 2021 and now (supposedly) I owe them more than $18,500 for all the power I've provided to the grid!

Finished "We Own This City" - and while very good, the editorializing in the final episode was off-putting to me. It's no Wire, but some quality performances. Watched the first episode of Lincoln Lawyer, which was both enjoyable and seemed a bit like "normal" broadcast TV.

George Carlin's American Dream: Fantastic, two-part HBO documentary on Carlin's life on and off the stage, as well as his multiple, drastic transformations as a comedian. I was most familiar with his caustic, politically charged style from the 90s and 00s, so it was fascinating to see how much he had changed over the 60s, 70s, and 80s. 19/19

It gave me a greater appreciation for Carlin the person. He was a brilliant comic and social commentator and good man.

Russian Doll (S2, Netflix) . Season 1 was good, especially the first half of the season. Season 2 is kinda crazy and I'm not sure if I'm enjoying it as much, but I'll give it a bit more since I'm half way through. (?/19 Incomplete grade)

I got two eps into S2 and quit. When she left a bag (or something) on the subway, it was too much of a contrived plot item.

S1 was great, tho!

No New Yorker would leave a bag unattended on a subway. That's the moment I quit the show.

Funny that we were both so bothered by the same scene!

Great minds and all that...

Season 2 is fine, but it kind of convinced me that the show didn't need another season.

I liked the first season, but after two episodes of season two I said adios.

Manhattan: Pretty good series about it, that's interesting, but sort gets overtaken by soap opera - good acting and filming, but we didn't watch the second season.

YouGov poll shows how much Americans back gun control

Speaking of gun control and the 2nd Amendment, I listened to a good article on NPR where they discussed an interesting strategy of repeal and replace the 2nd amendment.

The idea being we repeal the 2nd amendment and immediately replace it with a new more flushed out and modern gun rights amendment. This new amendment would codify things like background checks, age limits to purchase a gun, and what type of guns average citizens would be allowed to own. I found it interesting.

I feel like we need an Article V convention. On this and so many other issues. For example, privacy.

The assault on privacy and the 4th amendment over the last 25 years is what “real patriots” and conservatives should be upset about.

Under Nick's look at Pac 12 football yesterday I asked the following question: "If, as you say Stanfurd is going to be really bad this year will Shaw, after four years in the doldrums, finally get the sack? And if he does do you think their next coach will be more Teevens or Harbaugh?" I got no answer so am re-posting it here. Thoughts, anyone?

After Stanfurd, Buddy Teevens returned to Dartmouth where he had five straight losing seasons - for a combined 9-41. In total, he had 13 straight losing seasons. The next year, he finally got a winning record but a losing league record in 2010 and got a contract extension.

http://biggreenalertblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/teevens-extension.html

The joke is on us, because he has since come in 1st or 2nd for six of the past seven seasons. First/second/third in 10 of the past 11 years.

Stanfords last recruiting class, on paper was very good and their current class is also looking solid. I think he would get one more season to turn it around with his younger recruits. My guess is their next coach would more Teevens than Harbaugh for a few reasons:

1. The Pac 12 being down means it is harder to attract talented coaches to the league.

2. Harbaugh was the exception to their coaching incompetence hiring.

Expand full comment

They would have the ability to throw a lot of cash at the next guy, also because Cal, probably more Harbaugh

Agree but I see them more likely as a 8-9 win team as opposed to steadily being a 10-11 win team as they were at the recent peak

Which unwritten rule trumps the other? Admiring a homer or pushing a player?

https://twitter.com/11point7/status/1533905906781589505

Not sure what's meant by "trumps the other", but I'd venture that admiring the home run is OK; the umpire pushing on the batter/runner is not.

As someone who has umpired games, I don't get it. Really and truly.

[SB] Oklahoma State blows a 5 run lead. Texas advance to WCWS, but face a buzz-saw offense in the Oklahoma Sooners. Cal got mercy-ruled by Oklahoma in March, 8-0 over 4.5 innings, which is what happens when you pitch a 4.00 WHIP game.
