Bought my 17-year old a 2015 Impreza with 150k miles for a very good price, knowing it needed some work, including new oil pan gasket, new axle, and control arm bushings. The timing cover gasket has a very slow seep (not a leak). A Shop quoted $1300 to repair. The parts (RTV Sealer and a few internal gaskets) are less than a $100 so this quote is almost entirely for labor. Anyone else attempted a repair such as this? I am pretty confident I can do it, just a matter of how long the car will be out of commissioner while doing so.
I know on some cars the timing cover gasket is really easy. Like you said, take off the cover, scrape off all the old gasket, make sure the surfaces are clean, put the new gasket in place and if required, put the RTV sealer in some corners, and put it back on and don't over tighten the bolts. I have yet to do it, but an thinking of doing my Miata's when it eventually needs it. They are supposedly super easy.
I think your WRX has the boxer engine so it may be harder because you will probably need to do each side. Find a youtube video. There will be lots of them out there for something as simple as valve cover gaskets.
Oh I just realized you said timing cover gasket. I'd imagine there will be plenty of youtube videos for them as well.
This is my concern about turning cars into computers - computers are buggy and freeze/shut down all the time! I prefer my cars to be analogue and dumb, unless you can go all the way and make them completely self driving, though in that instance I don’t think you need to own your own car anymore
I agree with this pretty much in its entirety. Stipulated that computer technology has made possible advancements in fuel economy, braking, and collision avoidance.
But I draw the line at being a guinea pig for someone's twisted dreams of avarice in the name of a safety feature that is, at best, half-baked. It's why I'll probably never have a Tesla and probably won't ever take a Waymo or a self-driving Uber or Lyft.
Prove to me it's safe, won't maim or kill a pedestrian, won't block traffic, and emergency vehicles.
The worst part of traveling for me is standing at the baggage carousel. Airlines make it a policy to save my suitcase for last which compounds my dread of fear of them losing my luggage. The fact that my luggage has never been lost always makes it worse. I feel I'm due. I'm just flying into Kansai from now on.
I tried to switch flights in San Juan once and asked if my bag could be moved to the new flight and they looked at me like I was asking for an absurd impossibility. Lol. I switched and it came like two days later, had to go to SFO to get it
US allows Ukraine to use short range weapons that it supplies to strike targets in Russia. France and Germany already approved Ukraine to strike Russia.
DJT? Whose initials are those? Oh, you mean twice-impeached, convict Donald J. Trump of 34 felony counts (so far). The charges are state of NY charges, so he can't pardon himself if he wins the election.
Even just a day in jail would be sweet for the image, just in light of what T is (all imagery and bluster with zero substance behind it). The photos of him in a prison jumpsuit would pierce the image of himself as tough and impervious, would be a really fitting punishment to someone who violated gag orders many times during trial, tried to intimidate witnesses, and clearly has zero remorse.
It reminded me of game 7 against the Suns in 22. Sometimes they just shoot the lights out and will blow out anyone. Blowing late leads in game 1 and 2 was the story of the series - you can’t give away two games and expect to advance
Watched The Boys in the Boat - good movie! Cal is sort of framed as the enemy rich kid team at first, but end out coming off very well. Also just a really nice story that transcends rivalries
A trigger warning would have been nice. I saw Challengers yesterday. I was shocked and disgusted that there were scenes of Furd tennis with people wearing Furd shirts and scenes that took place on that campus. Two of the main characters were students there. Very upsetting.
The film itself was the worst I've seen in years. The three main characters were loathsome people (naturally two were St*nf*rd students). I can't believe that Luca Guadagnino -- who did Call Me By Your Name, a film I much admired -- directed this tripe. Simply awful.
