& Half

Half and Half is supposed to be half cream and half whole milk. The important part in H&H is the fat content because you're buying it for the richness from the fat. And US laws on cream give a huge range for fat content (18%-35%), so H&H can have a big range of fat content so long as it is above the minimum 10.5%. Also, US laws give broad leeway to what can be added to it. If you buy H&H, check the label to a) see the fat content and b) see the ingredient list to check to see if they use words like "recombined", "reconstituted", "prepared", "prepackaged" or anything else besides liquid milk and liquid cream. The latter is an indicator that they use thickeners, fillers, or other things that aren't fat or water.

Sen. Tuberville sides with Russia over American interests in Ukraine. I hope we beat the shit out of Auburn - if nothing else - because it would piss him off.

MAGA rally on SF Green draws maybe a hundred people. It seems to be some a few people you'd typically expect, the South Vietnamese reactionaries, and the nutjob supporters of Ellen Lee Zhou.

Alex Jones declares Chapter 7, liquidating his assets. I don't foresee him going away, but this doesn't help him.

The NFL is implementing a new kickoff rule this season. There are strong incentives to return the ball.

Celtics were pretty great coming into Game 1. Then they get Porzingis available off the bench and he delivers. Boston easily defeats Mavs 107-89 to take Game 1.

California Supreme Court rules that UC Berkeley may build student housings on People's Park, overruling the two lawsuits that were blocking it

I could swear that I once learned that "People's Park" is not that lot, kitty corner to Telegraph, but an actual park just north of University a few blocks down from campus.

I and some friends were strong arm mugged nearby the "Telegraph" park.

Good times. Now, if only the Porta-Potties in the parking garages were actually usable.

Thank goodness, what a shithole / blight that place is. And we need housing so badly there!

Chandler Rogers getting a start by game 6 (first 6 games: UCD, Auburn, SDSU, FSU, Miami, Pitt).

Expand full comment

That’s fair…I could see him starting if Mendoza does not take the next step. While a clear step up from Finley and Jackson, Fernando still left a lot of plays on the field, which is to be expected for a RS FR thrust into starting in his first year of game action.

But if the Bears are going to make any kind of jump with this coaching staff, better QB play would help. And of course better secondary play…

Expand full comment

Yeah, my worry about Mendoza is he doesn’t have great tools (not a particularly good arm, not particularly fast, etc) so is what we saw his ceiling? I hope not! I do really like his moxie

Agreed. And it’s definitely his job to lose, despite a somewhat new system with the Bloesch/Gilbert tandem.

We could maybe get away with more of ag game manager type, IF the defense takes a step forward and shows it can control a game. But short of that, we’re gonna need the QB to make big plays…if Rogers is the one to do that, so be it. He has some experience, but Nando has the right to improve. Hopefully he does so.

After our Bowl game, this "Bloesch/Gilbert" is my looming concern. We already know much about Nando.
