Perfect. I never watched it and the only thing I know about it is that it stars Anna Kendrick and has the Cups stacking song.

One of those movies I didn't think would be good but laughed a ton. My husband ended up really like it as well (against his initial will)- one of those movies that you catch more of the jokes the more you watch it (like Stepbrothers in that way). The sequels were not near as good as the original.

the only real thing i know about Anna Kendrick is that a friend of mine in NYC looks exactly like her and often gets mistaken for her. as a result i had to look up who Anna Kendrick was ..

I never saw Pitch Perfect but my daughter was a big Twilight fan so I saw that. Ann Kendrick's character was such as goofball.

Pitch. (5/19) TV show maybe 10 years ago that was about the first female to play in the Major Leagues for the Padres. It wasn't that good.

A’s Drop Series Opener To Angels 7-4

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2025/6/9/24446406/as-drop-series-opener-to-angels-7-4

The Athletics made a late charge but dropped their series opener to the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night in LA, dropping the first of three to their division rivals 7-4 in a lackluster effort from the last-place A’s.

The club is seeming to like this opener strategy. After not using an opener all season long manager Mark Kotsay has been going with it recently for some games, and did so again tonight to begin their series in LA against the rival Angels.

Dodgers’ late game heroics help take series opener from Padres

https://www.truebluela.com/2025/6/9/24446414/dodgers-padres-game-recap

The Dodgers take Game 1 of their first seven contests in 11 games between the San Diego Padres, squeaking their way to take Monday’s thriller 8-7.

Shohei Ohtani once again kicked things off with a leadoff double off of Nick Pivetta, his second leadoff double in as many games. Freddie Freeman cashed in Ohtani with his league leading 21st double of the season to give Dustin May a lead to work with. Teoscar Hernández reached on an errant throw from Manny Machado to put runners at the corners, allowing Will Smith to add to the Dodger lead with a sacrifice fly.

Trump administration brings a case before SCOTUS to try and sidestep the Convention Against Torture, essentially allowing the US to export illegal aliens anywhere without any assurance that they won't be tortured - which based upon what he's agreed with the El Salvdorans and other countries - is that they absolutely will be tortured.

Under other circumstances I may have gone down to the Mall to see the Army birthday celebration. But not now. A news report yesterday evening said they were going to have one controlled entrance for the festival and two entrances for the parade. Going to be a big mess if their hundreds of thousands show up, which I doubt.

I think this is going to be Trump's angle ahead of midterms. He's going to try to provoke a violent reaction. He's going to get it. And then he's going to play the "law and order against violent illegal aliens and thugs" angle.

I'm already seeing the "are you for burning cars?" posts from conservative friends. I am not for those (either in 2020 or now), but I am for law and order observed by the government (ie no masked thugs snatching people with no due process upon said snatching, incarcerated maybe no one knows where).

What is striking about that article is that Trump comes off as reasonable on the issue of talks with Iran about nuclear development. Rupert Murdoch, by contrast, is a poisonous bastard. To be sure, Murdoch has always been a poisonous bastard. In that regard, nothing has changed.

It’s time for another edition of Oski Disciple’s quote of the day.

“Every tradition grows ever more venerable - the more remote its origin, the more confused that origin is. The reverence due to it increases from generation to generation. The tradition finally becomes holy and inspires awe.” — Nietzsche

Of course Nietzsche, as we all know, wrote several verses of the Cal Drinking Song

I tried to teach Gemini to have it re-write the Cal Drinking Song to something that Nietzche would write. I had the hardest time teaching it beause it didn't know the lyrics. At first, it just make up something with a chorus, which the Cal drinking song doesn't have. Then it used West Virginia's fight song. Then I told it the specific lyrics. Here is what it came up with:

For the Overman! For the Overman!

The abyss rings out the call, we're out to rise or fall!

For the Overman! For the Overman!

We'll crush the old, or know the reason why!

—And when the old is shattered, we will find a fountain of truth,

and we'll affirm existence 'til we tremble in our youth.

So AFFIRM! — tra la la, AFFIRM! — tra la la,

Affirm, Affirmed, Affirmed last night, Affirmed the night before,

Gonna affirm tonight like I've never affirmed before.

'Cause when I affirm I'm as joyful as can be,

For I am a member of the Free Spirit family!

Oh the Free Spirit family is the best family,

To ever emerge from old Germany!

There's the Last Men and the Herd-men,

The ascetic priest and the slave-soul!

Sing glorious, victorious,

One insight for the four of us!

Sing glory be to Will that there are no more of us!

'Cause one of us can grasp it alone, damn near!

Here's the nihilist, dead to truth!

Almost as bad as the term paper I submitted for completion of the Philosophy degree. The legendary professor Wallace Matson (who taught a class my father was in twenty-seven years prior) somehow liked my interpretation enough to grant me a B+. Nietzsche, the anti-philosopher, was a fun one to break down.

I had him in 1987(?) for Philosophy and Religion. Great class!
