Old enough to remember seeing Craig Morton play and remember that the starting QB before him was the wonderfully named Randy Gold.

I'm old enough that a classmate of mine in 9th grade German was Rick Theder. I had a stretch where he annoyed me, so I rooted for Stanford in that year's Big Game...but I came around. Obviously!

I watched the first hour or so of the avatar sequel last night. At home, so no 3-D "magic". but it was a slog. likely won't finish it. 5/19?

visually interesting, but the plot and characters seemed out of a paint-by-numbers playbook. whooo-ra marines, "gotta break outta my shell" teenage sons, "ima hold this family together" dad, battles with new teenage rival...but then we're friends.

and long stretches of "not moving the story along".

[WaPo] National Archives asked for documents back from Trump in Feb 2021. Trump obstructed. When it was clear that the Feds were not messing around, Trump hired actual lawyers - not just the lickspittles he had advising. One of those lawyers was Tom Kise - who negotiated a $3m up-front fee from the guy infamous for stiffing his vendors. Trump continued to obstruct - hiding documents and lying to his advisors. When it became clear that Trump was going to get charged, Kise proposed a settlement with the DOJ in fall 2022. WaPo says that Trump took Tom Fitton's assertions that he should fight since he was in high right to keep documents. Tom Fitton is not a lawyer and only known for being the head of conservative group Judicial Watch.

Astros win on an attempted double-play ball that went off the helmet of Jake Meyers. On one hand, Meyers was running on the infield, which could be called obstruction. On the other hand, that had nothing to do with the ball bouncing off his helmet.

https://twitter.com/Astros_Coverage/status/1669337213061005313

Expand full comment

Classic obstruction, and, to be sure, why there a gawd-damn runner's lane.

Expand full comment

He was inside the line, but it looks like he goes back on the line, barely, right as the ball hits him. So I think it isn't obstruction.

Expand full comment

The runner is not *in* the runner's lane. He's in fair territory *and* he's interfering with the throw to first.

Expand full comment

But he's on the line as the throw gets there. Although when the throw is released he's still in fair territory.

Expand full comment

Just to be clear, all of the foul line is in fair territory. None of the foul line is in the runner's lane, which is where his sorry a$$ belongs.

What does it matter that he's on the line? He is clearly interfering with the fielder in catching the thrown ball. Again, this and in the interest of safety is why there is a runner's lane.

Expand full comment

That's what I thought when the Chuck Knoblauch play happened. A similar play happened a couple years ago in the post season. If I remember correctly, the explanation is that at some point, the runner/batter has to be in fair territory to step on the base so if he is in the act of stepping on the base when the ball hits him, it's not interference. If the ball had hit him a few steps before it did, he'd have been out.
