On April 2, 2023, the Giants were 1-2 and in last place in the NL West. They were also 0.5 game out of first place because everyone else in the division was 2-2 and tied for first place.
After yesterday's games, the Giants are in 2nd place at 40-32, 3.5 games in back of the Arizona Diamondbacks (44-29), 1 full game up on the Dodgers, who are 39-33 and in 3rd place.

Have you guys seen/heard the Newsom interview with Hannity? I have never been a fan of Gav (he seems like the quintessential Marina d-bag to me) but he comes off very, very well in the interview, which consists of several hours of Hannity trying to ambush him on a series of issues, and Newsom very quickly and effectively responding in a way that illustrates his greater mastery of the underlying facts and evades the typical liberal/conservative caricatures that Hannity seeks to invoke.
Obviously he still has quite a bit of baggage, but I was just surprised at how well he did

Teacher put on administrative leave for making faces at this student. He then later quits because of this student. The kid was suspended pending investigation. If this doesn't warrant an expulsion, I'm not sure what does.
I never had anything nearly as bad happen to me when I taught middle school but I can relate to some of what the teacher went through. When I first started teaching there was swift justice against any student who in anyway messed with a teacher. By the time I left the pendulum had swung too far the other way and student's not only received "due process" but their word was regarded as equal to that of adults. This led to situations like a student claiming a teacher was having sex with her boyfriend in the classroom after school. The allegation was investigated despite the accusing student's abysmal dislplincary record which included numerous instances of lying.
The worst part of the job for me towards the end was the lack of administrative support for teachers which often morphed into doubting our version of events.

With Aileen Mercedes Cannon? Trump shill if there ever was one. I guess it's up to her how she wants to go down in the history books. I mean if they still have those in Florida..
She's a trump shill so far, but she's going to be around a lot longer than he is. She might be willing to let him swing to keep her name out of the history books. Also, I think the complete shut down by the trump majority appeals court might have pulled the red maga hat from her eyes.

Duke offering free undergrad tuition for students from South and Best Carolina if your family makes less than $150k. I mean, it's still required that you need to be a douchebag.
It's similar to what other elite universities are doing for all admits. Though the amount may be less than $150K. I think when No 1 was going through the process in 2012, Furd was something like free tuition if you make under 100K and prorated above that. And everything is covered if you're family income is something like 60K. Princeton, Georgetown, Vandy all do similar things.
I guess Dook is now trying to do something similar?

Taking a guess here;
UC's - Cal, Irvine, Davis, UCLA
Other - Harvey Mudd, Caltech, UCSF
Correct:
Cal Tech (#1 @ 4%)
UCLA (#3 @ 11%)
Cal (#5 @ 15%)
UC Irvine (#6 tie @ 29%)
Does that make Cal Poly SLO #7?
I'd replace Irvine with Santa Barbara, UCSD should be above Irvine as well. Possibly add SDSU just based on sheer volume of applicants.
Correct:
UCSB (#6 tie @ 29%)
I went with med school choices (Davis, UCSF) over SDSU and Stanford, but that is probably outside of the scope of the ranking.
A quick Google search shows that Stanford and Irvine are probably in top 7, Davis and SB probably not.
Correct:
Stanfoo (#1 tie @ 4%)
what is a "national" university?
and wouldn't stanfUrd and SC be on the list?
Correct:
USC #4 @ 13%
Maybe they mean a 4 year college?
Yeah, I think this is correct. SDSU gets so many applicants.

The houses in Diamond Heights in SF that abut Glen Canyon are all on concrete pillars like that - agree it’s freaky here!

Adding TCU to that list is a bit lazy. The only way they could improve upon last season is to actually win the NC. Even if you discount that, they are still replacing a lot of talent that just got drafted on offense.
I’m interested in seeing the results for Sonny the further he gets from Patterson’s players…that year was huge, but can he recruit well enough in Fort Worth to be a consistent CFP candidate or was that a one-off? Texas and Oklahoma leaving will help….
I think Dykes will be just fine. He is/was an underrated recruiter at Cal, Wilcoxs best seasons were with Dykes recruits. Texas obviously has a lot of HS talent that Dykes should be able to recruit and I feel like Dykes was an early adopter of the new transfer rules and portal so he will supplement through that.
The sort of weird thing in all this is Wilcox's recruiting. It seems like, as the spitting image of a good coach in everyone's impression, that he would be outstanding at it. But that does not seem to be the case. He gets a pass I guess because of COVID and maybe the evident portal prowess this season but let's just hope 2024 and future seasons are better. But I'm not sure if 4-8 or 5-7 will be acceptable anymore.
