On Jeopardy! last night, a contestant incorrectly responded to a clue with "What is Spinal Tap?" in the Double Jeopardy round. Later, a clue came up where the correct response was, "What is Spinal Tap?"

Mrs. Slug and I exchanged knowing glances.

Expand full comment

shouldn't it be: WHAT IS what is spinal tap?

Expand full comment

The movie name is This is Spinal Tap.

So the correct response would be, "What is This is Spinal Tap?"

of course it is...brain fart at my end.

I was being pedantic about the title of the film just this past weekend :-/

I thought it was pretty good. It shows that IT and Judicial are co-conspirators. Judge Meadows is just a figure head and not really in charge.

I dunno, I just kinda suspected that from the start and felt Juliette getting blindsided was completely out character for someone as sharp as she, especially given her history with IT. Hate when stuff like that is done simply to advance the plot, hence my lukewarm feelings.

Still enjoying it…hopefully upcoming episodes show she Admiral Akbar’ed them…

Expand full comment

yeah, Tim Robbins going from mean IT guy to helpful mayor wasn't believable.

Expand full comment

It wasn’t believable but I just assumed he and IT had their own agenda separate from Common and Judicial.

Common is so solid…I saw him at the Rady Shell back in ‘19…just a fantastic spot to see a show on a nice San Diego summer evening. He was also good in Street Kings….

Well, sort of, since there was a water treatment plant (LA Sanitation) between us and the ocean - which you could see if you climbed the sand hills. At least I did, not sure anyone else in the family climbed those hills.

John Eastman - the guy who allegedly came up with the idea for the "coup memo" (ie, come up with alternative electors and have Pence overturn the 2020 election) - had his disbarment defense off to a rocky start. His expert witness - a guy who self-published a book that had 13 reviews on Amazon - was disallowed by the Judge because he wasn't an expert - merely a fellow crackpot.

After all, he did advocate what amounts to treason and a coup d'etat (remember that Capitol police and a rioter were killed in the January 6th riot).

Justice Alito took luxury fishing vacations with a GOP billionaire who later had cases before the Court. SCOTUS has an ethics problem.

Alito argued that the seat on the donor’s plane would have gone unused “as far as he knew” had he not used it, and he was saving the taxpayers the cost of a commercial ticket.

Your job as a lawyer is discerning good arguments from bad ones. How did this guy rise high enough to get on the Supreme Court???? He is a straight up dumbass if he thinks that is a good argument. The amorality I just take as a given for a GOP shill, but dude, if you can’t tell a good argument from a bad one, what worth are you even as a partisan flunky? What piece of human garbage.

Actually, Alito thinks that most Americans are stupid and he demurs when asked about being a liar. The only conservative justices who might not be tainted are Roberts and Gorsuch.

I'm convinced that Alito and Thomas are forever compromised on their ethics re: gifts. Kavanaugh probably had debt retired when he was nominated to the Court by TFG. Barrett is a hatchet (wo)man.

Impeach these bastards or expand the court and institute terms for justices. If Newsom gets his Article V constitutional convention, we can take it up then.

The theme clue is: Corporations with little business activity, and what are formed by the circled letters

The theme answer is "Shell Companies"

The four companies in the puzzle (via circled letters) are Oracle, Apple, Meta, and Intel

Why are they shell companies? I can see Meta, since they (like Alphabet) have sub-companies and perhaps "Meta" doesn't do anything itself. But Apple, Intel, and Oracle make their stuff under those names.

And "little business activity"??? In what world?
