It was already 90 when I went out this morning but a light northerly breeze made it tolerable. Temp in the upper 90s now but the humidity has dropped below 50%.
I got my first Go Bears in a long while yesterday. Despite the heat I decided to go out in the afternoon. At an intersection a car waved me across. As I walked by the driver rolled down his window and said “nice beard.” (At this point I could pass for Santa if I wasn’t so skinny.) Then he noticed the Cal cap I was wearing and said “go cal, go bears.”
I'm glad he followed the (gulp) "Go Cal" with a "Go Bears." I find that people who say "Go Cal" are invariably new to Golden Bear fandom. Anyone who's been around for awhile knows the power of a hearty Go Bears!
The late Clint Evans, California's baseball head coach for 25 seasons, has become the first Golden Bear to be selected to the College Baseball Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2025.
The playing field is named for him - Evans Diamond. The naming of the stadium for Stu Gordon is only a few years old. Used to be just called Evans Diamond.
Former pitcher for the Bears, way back in the early sixties. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a game when he was being honored for his contributions to the program. Cal baseball is still alive in large part due to his dedication, including giving $$ but also organizing the effort to save the program.
The California men's soccer team will play a 15-game regular-season schedule in 2025 highlighted by six matches against teams that reached the 2024 NCAA Championship, six home games and eight ACC matches, head coach Leonard Griffin announced Monday.
BERKELEY – Chelsea Spencer has stepped down as California's head softball coach, Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton announced Monday.
Spencer spent the past five seasons guiding the Golden Bear program, including NCAA Tournament appearances in each of the past three years. Cal's postseason berth in 2023 snapped a five-year drought.
Wow, just as the new digs are being built. Cal is losing her firebrand dedication and competitive edge, in the midst of bringing the program back to prominence. I wonder what happened to lead her to this decision.
Thomas Catellanos has been shooting his mouth off over the past few days. You need to have confidence in yourself to be a QB, but he seems to have quite the ego.

Funny you say that because the way he said it really seemed like he realized his faux pas.

I've never heard of him, but congratulations!

Oh that's the name behind Evans Field! Cool. And I didn't know it was called Stu Gordon now. My next question is who is Stu Gordon?

Thank you. I learned a lot today.
Clint Evans died in 1975.
So he'll probably be a no show.
Exactly.
