A’s drop series finale, swept by Angels

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2024/6/26/24186738/as-drop-series-finale-swept-by-angels

The Athletics dropped the series finale against the Angels on Wednesday afternoon, falling to their division rivals by a final of 5-2.

Rookie Joey Estes took the ball today for his ninth start of the year. He’s shown promise at time through the first half but also lots of room to grow, specifically in the consistency department.

That sort of foggy je ne sais quoi that baseball romantically slaps you with from time to time.

This is all conjecture on my part, by the way. I wasn’t actually at 24 Willie Mays Plaza. I was sitting at home, where the tickets are free, the beer is $18 cheaper, and my tailbone is not on the losing end of a one-sided fight with a plastic seat.

Gavin Stone blanks White Sox in first Dodgers shutout in two years

https://www.truebluela.com/2024/6/26/24186996/gavin-stone-shutout-dodgers-white-sox

Complete games are rare these days, and shutouts even more so. But Gavin Stone did just that in the Dodgers 4-0 win over the White Sox. But if you’ve followed Stone’s season closely, it’s not surprising that he was the one to get the Dodgers first complete game in two years.

Before getting into Stone and his dominant performance, It’s important to touch on how the Dodgers scored those four runs to make this shutout a possibility. It’s not every organization in the history of the game that can replace a leadoff hitter of the caliber of Mookie Betts with a better one, but alas, here we are. Shohei Ohtani once again sets the tone early for a Dodgers win giving LA the lead before the White Sox had even their first at-bat.

Alex Morgan has seen quite the decline. She went from the Golden Boot (most goals in league) in 2022 to half as many in 2023. In 2024, she has been unproductive and then relegated to coming off the bench as a sub. Now she doesn't even get subbed in and she's got zero goals 8 matches in to the season

Robert Zemeckis will try to reignite some of the magic from his 1980s and 1990s career via "Here", starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. It's gimmick is that it is a fixed shot movie (ie, a play) with a lot of CGI.

S&P 500 at record highs ... it is quite amazing how resilient it has been.

i used to have this tendency to want to pull back or be more cautious the higher it got. however it seems that it is impervious to everything.

i do appreciate that the majority of the gains are driven by a small handful of companies since is it market cap weighted.

at work we are working on quantum computing algorithms that approximate the volatility and randomness of the markets.

Calloway

We're all pretty aware of him from him singing his 1931 #1 song "Minnie the Moocher" in the 1980 movie Blue Brothers. What a career that guy had - launching in the golden era of jazz, being a pioneer of swing, becoming a leader in the big band era, and having a direct influence into the roots of hip-hop. He was the first African-American to sell millions of albums.

Here he is leading his orchestra in a spectacularly entertaining rendition of his 1939 hit song "Jumpin Jive" in the 1943 film "Stormy Weather"
