Reminder to get in touch if you want to meet up at the Alameda County Fair today! Terence will be going in the afternoon, and I'll head over from Berkeley after work today. Gin Blossoms concert AND fireworks tonight, plus the perennial favorites, the racing pigs, and of course all the fair food!
That was a tom Kenny bit back in the 80s/early-90s. was hoping it'd be in this clip, but alas. still pretty funny (albeit def 30 years old...and pre-SpongeBob)
I remember him in the 80s. Saw him on the Friday (?) night comedy show on KQED Alex Bennett used to host. Watching that clip, some of the voices he does sounds like SpongeBob.
Back in the day, WW couldn't really fly, although sometimes she could glide on air currents. So the jet was actually useful. Somewhere along the line she got a big power boost.
The Flash peeks into Wonder Woman's bedroom window one night and sees her naked in bed and writhing in pleasure. Overcome by the sight, The Flash goes in and quickly has sex with her in less than a blink of an eye. "What was that", says Wonder Woman. "I dunno - but my butthole hurts", says the Invisible Man.
I don't tweet and don't follow anyone but I did create an account many years ago. I must be perpetually logged in because I can still click on a link and see it. Or maybe I'm invisible to Twitter.
Tour de France - starts on Sat and my favorite sporting event of the year.
i usually watch the live stream each day while working till about 1100 ET. i'll go to a cycling cafe in NYC once or twice to watch w/ others.
favorites are Vingegaard (Denmark) - last year's winner - and Pogacar (Slovenia)- who won the previous 2.
additionally Mark Cavendish (old) goes for record number of stage wins, currently tied w/ all-time great Eddy Merckx. but he will have still competition in the sprints including possibly the first racer from African to win a stage, Biniam Girmay (Eritrea).
I am not a cycling fan but I generally will park myself in front of the tv for the first day of the TdF and because I enjoy other people's suffering, watch the alpine stages
one of these days I'm going to go and watch some stages in person, even though that has to be much worse for understanding what's happening than watching on tv.
Did you catch Tour de France: Unchained on Netflix? It's a documentary series covering the 2022 TdF (not unlike the documentary series Drive to Survive covering Formula 1). I've largely been a casual follower of the TdF (I knew a few teams and could probably name around 5 riders), but that series hooked me and now I can't wait for the Tour to start tomorrow.
NBC is cutting back on the TV coverage. The first week is live on USA Network along with Peacock. After that you have to have a Peacock subscription to see it live. Or you can tape the replay coverage on USA at 2AM. As a non-Peacock person, I won't be able to watch much after the first week.
Disappointing, but not unexpected. I had slim hopes that this would wipe out the remainder of my loans. Meanwhile folks like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Jared Kushner have had much, much larger debts of PPP loans wiped away...
Reportedly, there's audio of Trump showing Susie Wiles the strategic plans to bomb Iran at Bedminster. Susie Wiles is the head of Trump's Save America PAC. Oh yeah, she's also the co-chair of a lobbyist group that is a registered foreign lobbyist group.
SCOTUS ruled in favor of a web design company citing that it can refuse to do work for a same-sex couple - Stewart and Mike. While that's the headline in the media, but it buries the lede. The gay couple doesn't exist. The person who brought the case - Laurie Smith - is an anti-LGBTQ activist group who brought a similar cake-baking case to the Supreme Court and lost. The person who claimed to be a web designer never created a web site before. And she signed an affidavit that this couple - one of which was allegedly a web designer himself - wanted her to design a wedding web site. Except the guy is straight, married, and has kids and never heard of Laurie Smith. Confronted with evidence that the situation was manufactured, the plaintiff's lawyers argued that it didn't need to be real and that they were arguing a hypothetical issue.
i dont think many people around the country appreciate that CA has not used race for admissions for quite some time.
thanks to whoever posted the article yesterday about Cal's admission stats. it seems that after eliminating race, the racial balance went back to what it was a long time ago. but presumably the other factors are different in terms of diversity.
there is almost no difference between where the rates were when Prop 206 was passed and today, at least for the proportion of Asian students at Cal and UCLA.
In the University of California statement, the big drop was whites from 36% in '94 to 22% in 2022. They did go up to 36% in '02 post prop 209. Asians went from 37% in '94 to 32.2% in 2022. This is all of the UCs.
I actually checked yesterday because some guy on twotter was adamant that the prestige UCs - I assumed he meant Cal and UCLA - were majority Asian, Cal has been pretty steady / increasing since Prop 206 but not majority https://pages.github.berkeley.edu/OPA/our-berkeley/enroll-history.html
Looks like SDSU will be staying in the Mountain West conference.
No panacea of a TV deal to fund expansion beyond ten PAC teams for now.

Invisible
Wonder Woman's invisible jet always seemed like a useless thing to me since you could still see her flying thru the air.

I was complaining about the invisible part. Perfectly ok that she has a nice jet if she can't fly thru the air by herself.
hahaha - you're not supposed to think about that too much with her - she's more about various types of sex.

UCLA seems steady for what they make available https://www.ucla.edu/about/facts-and-figures
Many folks have been saying there has been systemic discrimination against high performing Asian candidates for admission for a long time.
Also, hope that standardized tests are used again. Maybe SCOTUS will take a look at that issue.
