Western States Endurance Run from Olympic Valley to Auburn was Saturday. The winner did the 100 miles in 14 hours 13 minutes. That’s about an 8 1/2 minute per mile average, which is crazy. The course includes 18,000 feet of ascent and 23,000 of descent.

once upon a time, you could only get the dessert only inside one of the fancy Momofuku restaurants. now the popularity of the Milk Bar is such that it stands alone pretty well.

Sources: Klay Thompson to join Mavericks on 3-year, $50M deal

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/40475185/klay-thompson-join-mavericks-3-year-50m-deal

Free agent Klay Thompson plans to join the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year, $50 million deal that includes a player option, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, ending his historic run with the Golden State Warriors after 13 seasons.

Thompson's move to Dallas comes as part of a multi-team sign-and-trade that'll also send Mavericks guard Josh Green to Charlotte, sources said. Thompson had four-year offers for more money but taking less was offset by the chance to win a fifth championship with the Mavs as well as the difference in state taxes.

Thank Gawd that's over. Next up - Draymond being dealt to who knows where.

I wonder what the Warriors offered. Probably no more than 2 years guaranteed. Although I don't see the Mavs winning it all the way they're currently constructed, even though they made it to the NBA finals.

it is not clear how Klay fits in w/ Luka and Kyrie unless he is mostly there to score points for 2nd unit and that is very up and down for him

Mariners lose 5-3 to Twins in a perfectly forgettable game.

the only thing of note was that i was there in person on a beautiful Sun afternoon in Seattle.

we got off downtown and walked past a very festive Pride Parade on the way to T-mobile park.

there is are a lot of great Asian food options. i got the pork katsu curry w/ rice and these Chinese donuts. the katsu was great, the donuts were just savory and fried dough and nothing special.

end of an era, sounds like Klay Thompson is very likely gone from the Warriors. as good as Steph has been, i am sure that part of his success has been the other realy good 3 pt shooter on the team.

i am bracing for even more painful coming years for the W's

A’s drop series finale to Arizona 5-1

The Oakland Athletics will finish off the three-game series today at Chase Field in Phoenix against the National League West’s Arizona Diamondbacks. Mark Kotsay sent 25-year-old righty Luis Medina to the mound to face Brandon Pfaadt for the D-backs.

Luis Medina held the D-backs hitless into the third inning but gave up a one-out double to Tucker Barnhart. A Geraldo Perdomo ground out moved him to third, but a Corbin Carroll ground out ended the inning.

Well, that was unexpected

The Giants blew out the Dodgers, just as you all thought they would.

I am far from a baseball expert. Very far from a baseball expert. I was tempted to say the furthest thing from a baseball expert, but seeing as how I am a person who has met my sister, that would be a blatant lie.

But I will say this: my years of covering the San Francisco Giants may not have made me more prepared to hit a triple-digit fastball, or more adept at scouting the vertical break of an A-Ball prospect’s curveball, but it has given me a fairly strong understanding of fandom. I read a lot of comments, on articles, Twitter, and in emails. I interact with a lot of fans, some happy, some angry, some indifferent. But more than anything, a few times a week, for many years, I have logged into the Vox Media CMS and started my baseball fandom therapy session.

James Paxton battered in Dodgers loss to Giants

https://www.truebluela.com/2024/6/30/24189177/james-paxton-chris-taylor-dodgers-giants-extra-base-hits

The Dodgers ran out of gas and got blasted by the Giants 10-4 on Sunday’s series finale at Oracle Park in San Francisco.

James Paxton has worked through traffic just about all season, with his results (3.39 ERA entering Sunday) better than his batted-ball data and expected statistics would suggest (4.47 xERA, 4.78 FIP entering Sunday). The series finale provided a chance for those factions to move closer together, as Paxton was hit hard, giving up six doubles and a home run, and nine batted balls with at least a 100-mph exit velocity.

SCOTUS rules on Presidential immunity today

My non-lawyerly take on the immunity ruling is that SCOTUS is essentially overturning what the Burger court slapped down - the imperial presidency.

Buckle up. This election season and beyond will be a bumpy ride.

At first blush it looks like a complicated mess. Immunity for official acts, but not unofficial acts. Which makes it sound like a sitting president could “officially” throw his opposition in jail.

More than anything, it does look to me like them creating a mess for the lower courts to sort out. Similar to the Chevron decision.
