He's a whiny, petulant douchebag. I was at the Giants/WhiteSox game on Saturday and was surprised to learn that I need to name a new most-hated Dodger, but he was it for me for a few years.
I get it. Many Dodgers fans hated him for breaking Hanley's ribs in the playoffs. But he became a cult hero for his face he made at Correa after the AB.
The world was so different back then... before the real fight in the early 8th grade, I was probably in about 100 fights, most "friendly" i.e. wrestling, small number "real" fights, which started with punching, but we weren't big enough to end fights that way, so they always ended with wrestling.
I had two brothers so I have punched and been punched many times! Outside of them, maybe only like a half dozen times have I come to blows. I think each time it was bc I was the new kid at school (my dad worked for DoD so we moved all the time) and some jerkoff was picking on me and got physical with me.
Never? Wow, that seems strange to me. I had three kids waiting to beat me up after school early in the 8th grade (just had moved there from England) punched the first guy square in the face, knocked him out and down, dropped back and motioned the other two kids to step forward.
This is exactly why the regents will not step in to stop the ucla move. If they did so, the regents would have two failing and debt ridden programs stuck on a sinking ship rather than just one.
Never understood why the University hasn't rented Memorial out to MLS, concerts, etc. to help put a small dent in the deficit. I realize the Panoramic NIMBYs would lose their minds, but alas . . .
Why not get aggressive with them? I mean the stadium has been in that location for 100 years; it’s not like the homeowners didn’t know it was there when they bought their house
PHA also extracted an agreement from the campus admin that Cal would limit events at the stadium. As I recall, it is spelled out in some specificity in terms of stadium capacity and the number of events for each level. This agreement was to be in place for something like 20 years.
In other words, I think their claimed veto power over such things stems simply from their willingness to be vexatious litigants. But at bottom, they seem full of shit. I mean the value of their houses is probably helped not hurt by the proximity to Memorial.
I thought there was some agreement with the NIMBYs during Memorial reconstruction that there can only be a certain number of night events a year. I Guess they could be day games/events though.
i went to a Paul McCartnry concert at Memorial during my senior year (92) and they said it was really hard to get locals to agree to it and not to expect many more concerts ever again ...
Remember that new Grambling HC who cut every player on the volleyball team and revoked their scholarship two months ago? Grambling just fired that coach and reinstated all the scholarships.
If this holds, what ACC conference games would you look forward to (assuming no ACC defections)? I'd love to see a FB game at Clemson. And BB games at UNC and Dook.
I'd be pleased that several venues are now within reasonable driving distance (UNC, NCSU, Duke, Wake Forest, UVA, VA Tech), but I can't say I'd be overly excited about visiting any of them. Well, maybe UNC. I like Chapel Hill.
That's OK. I've just love to experience a game at Death Valley.
And as a life long UNC BB fan, a game at the Dean Dome would be awesome. I've seen the court but not on gameday.
And a game at Cameron, albeit not a Dook/UNC game, would also be cool. No 1 went to a game when his ex-GF (then a Dook Law student) game him her ticket and said it was amazing.
If I could only attend one game I would choose either UNC/Dook at Cameron or Cal in the Rose Bowl...so we know which one I'd actually have a chance to go see...
This would just be a stopgap solution, but might be effective for a few years while everyone figures it out. That's if there are actual contractual teeth to it.
Exactly. I'm not really seeing how a 'loose' alliance really helps, other than a handful of games featuring elite programs and the Championship game in Vegas.
"Loose alliance with the ACC" with a contemplated playoff game in Vegas between the ACC champ and the Pac-12 champ. By banding together to re-negotiate media rights, the collective value of each team in terms of annual revenue would be targeted at $45 million as opposed to $30 million factoring in the loss of SC and UCLA.
As I've seen reported elsewhere, it's not like ND hasn't left money on the table before wrt maintaining what is most important to them, their independence.
Yeah I think the only way they would join a conference is if they got a disproportionate share of income. But the Ohio States and Michigans will balk at that
It concerns me for the legal system generally that people act like they are free to ignore lawful subpoenas, especially ones about important issues like this. Throw his ass in jail if he doesn’t comply
Garofolo (also from the NFL Network) says Browns are paying about $10.5m of his salary. If this and the above statement are true and the average 5th round pick makes about $3.5m - the Browns are paying Mayfield $7m to play against them.
The A’s won on Tuesday night at the Coliseum, beating the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 in the second game of the series.
Their rookie starting pitcher bounced back from a rough previous outing and was solid for five innings while the offense jumped all over an erratic Seattle starter and worked five walks in the first three frames. That helps explain how the A’s won this game while getting outhit 10-4. Isn’t baseball interesting?
Ryan Pepiot, as the kids say, understood the assignment. Tasked with a spot start for the fourth time in his rookie season, the right-hander had his best big league outing to date, striking out six in five innings on Tuesday, earning his first major league win in the Dodgers’ 5-2 triumph over the Rockies.
Two Sierra Leone soccer teams were tied going into the final match ahead of the Super 10 playoffs and were playing different teams at the same time to determine who would take the final playoff spot. Both teams were ahead at halftime 2-0 and 7-1 and it became clear that goal differential would matter. The two teams collectively scored 177 goals in the second half.
Boy, Major League ballplayers can hit a fastball, even high 90's...the previous batter's sac fly was absolutely smoked as well but right at Pederson...
Hate that the bullpen is so bad that Kapler repeatedly has to burn his closer in non-save situations.
The Giants were unable to end their five-game losing streak on Tuesday, falling to the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 despite a great start from Alex Wood. The Giants middling offense barely built any rallies and their inconsistent bullpen reared its ugly head once again.
Brandon Crawford got the scoring started, doubling in Austin Slater in the top of the fourth inning to give the Giants a 1-0 lead. Geraldo Perdomo evened the score by singling in Carson Kelly in the bottom of the fifth, handing Wood the only run he allowed on the evening.
Arizona’s lineup made a decent amount of solid contact against Wood, but the southpaw’s .340 BABIP entering play appeared to be regressing to the mean. He allowed four hits and four strikeouts over five innings.

He's a whiny, petulant douchebag. I was at the Giants/WhiteSox game on Saturday and was surprised to learn that I need to name a new most-hated Dodger, but he was it for me for a few years.

This is horrible news for the Bears...Cal does not have the B1G option...trouble.

Prefer: UNC, Duke, NC State, UVA, GA Tech, BC, Pitt, Miami
The best experience while melting in humidity and getting humiliated on the field: Clemson
Meh: FSU, VA Tech, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Louisville
And doesn't AB1887 technically prevent Cal from scheduling FSU, Miami, UNC, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest, Louisville, and Clemson?
Is AB1887 related to so-called bathroom bills?
I would love to see football games vs Clemson, Florida State, and Georgia Tech.
But, what ACC schools have airports with direct flight from Pac12 schools? We need a new article about it because I won't be looking it up!
Other than flying to Atlanta for GA Tech or maybe Miami, the prospects of non-stopover flights seem slim...
I was thinking about UO going to the SEC, and wondering what a Eugene to Starksville itinerary might look like.
Uncle Phil would just get a charter for the team.
Right, but if you were a fan.
Yikes, hag, we'd get absolutely smoked in all 3...like, non-competetive!!
I think a FB game v. Ga Tech, maybe hoops v. Pitt and BC is more our speed!!
Cameron for a game is a bucket list venue for sure...I've walked on the court, but in end of June when it was completely empty.
I think Hinkle and Allen Fieldhouses would probably be the top of my list. And I'd love to see a playoff game at MSG.
Next time you get within 20 miles of me, you gotta drop by for a beer.
It helps with the money for now (all of these schools negotiating as one), that's basically it.
And it just limits our OOC game variations.
I feel like I've seen this movie before.
A loose alliance of teams that will happily take the first chance they can to jump ship to the Big 10, Big 12, or SEC.
I mean, that's what the Big 12 has been for some time now.
Hmmm
"Loose alliance with the ACC" with a contemplated playoff game in Vegas between the ACC champ and the Pac-12 champ. Why not - they have an exclusive deal with NBC and can probably print money with a high ceiling if they can re-negotiate a deal.
This is a bit of a misconception: Their contract is $15 million annually. They get less than Wake Forest does.
As I've seen reported elsewhere, it's not like ND hasn't left money on the table before wrt maintaining what is most important to them, their independence.
ND needs to change their logo to add the Gadsden flag snake and motto, thats how much they value their independence.
Yes, but they'd be leaving significantly more money on the table this time around.
or they could negotiate a better deal for themselves.
Yeah I think the only way they would join a conference is if they got a disproportionate share of income. But the Ohio States and Michigans will balk at that

It was a fun win TBH; watched the 9th.

https://www.truebluela.com/2022/7/5/23196217/ryan-pepiot-strikes-max-muncy-dodgers-rockies
Pepiot attacked the zone throughout his outing, throwing 67 percent of his pitches for strikes. That was up from 55.6 percent strikes in his first three starts, which also featured 11 walks in 11⅓ innings. Pepiot only walked one on Tuesday, which helped him last five innings for the first time in the majors. He allowed four hits, two of which came back-to-back in the second inning for the Rockies’ only run against Pepiot. José Iglesias doubled home Ryan McMahon to give Colorado an early lead.
That lead was short-lived thanks to a player who’s made a career out of controlling the strike zone.
