World of Hyatt and MGM Rewards just announced their partnership is ending on Sept 30, 2023. This is such a terrible news for some people. You could status match Hyatt status to MGM Gold and enjoy waived resort fees and free parking. I am really going to miss it.

You could also status match each program every year and retain status forever without ever staying because they had one month difference in a expiration date.

Half

and half. Why do they call it half and half? If you got both halves that'a a whole. So shouldn't be called Whole or Entire?

Expand full comment
SGBear's avatar

I know you're joking, but half and half is equal parts whole milk and cream. There is no such thing as low or non-fat half and half. That is thickened skim milk.

I am still riffing on banana pudding, so I've been going through a ton of half-and-half lately. Lessons learned: banana pudding has a pudding layer and a whipped cream layer. Banana pudding needs to be made fresh. One needs to bury your bananas in the pudding component, because bananas ripen/ferment quicker if exposed to the higher air content. Start with slightly under ripe bananas as they will ripen in the pudding and be overripe by the time you eat them. Put the cookies in the whipped cream because otherwise they will get saturated with moisture in the pudding. I've been doing a ton of exercise lately, and I'm still gaining weight thanks to banana pudding.

I've upped my workouts recently and am losing weight because I have finally gone off potato chips in addition to a few other fattening snacks.

I cannot have potato chips in the house. No such thing as eating just some, it's ridiculous. Pint of ice cream could sit untouched in the freezer for months, but chips are immediately inhaled.

I never was a big potato chip fan. Now, potatoes prepared other ways -

potato salad

baked potato

potatoes au gratin

twice-baked potatoes

mashed potatoes

french fries

roasted potato wedges

cast iron (spiral) skillet potatoes

and many other ways I haven't listed are all perfectly acceptable ways of preparing potatoes. Potato chips, though, are not hard to give up.

_way to DC. on the Amtrak this morning from NY > DC.

only a minor delay ...

Train 141 is currently operating approximately 30mins late into New York (NYP) due to police activity near the tracks and rail congestion.

I came close to missing my flight back to Ca in Boston last week. The NE Regional got in about 10 min late, but near Boston sat there for at least 30 min because there was a disabled commuter train in front and we had to wait for 2 trains to come by on the other track before we could go around.

I was going to take the Silver Line bus from South Station but I got off at Back Bay and found an Uber. Basically got to the game as boarding was about to start, so I probably had 30 min but didn't want to risk having to wait for the bus at South Station.

Also, I don't like the format where they got rid of the ump telling the pitcher to wait until the ball landed. I like the 10 outs format better.

We are watching Lincoln Lawyer, Season 2, which is certainly a ok TV show, really a type of show more liked by my wife, but I don't hate it.

Started episode 2 of Lucky Hank - had to sign up to AMC+ to avoid all those stupid ads- I think very well acted, worth watching.

And also started The Witcher - good but only watched the first episode of Season 3 (daughter is watching this one as well).
