It’s time for Oski Disciple’s question of the day.

Why do math teachers make kids solve problems? Isn’t it tough enough being in school without having to solve an adult’s problems?

Question: Given the variables of T (number of cars), U (chance of being picked up by any individual cars), V (standard deviation of car volume in a day), W (weight of the hitchhiker), and Y (number of doorlocks in a car), and Z (the skill of the driver/tailor) - what are the odds of being able to make a lampshade out of 20 year old hitchhiker within 14 hours?

Expand full comment

More importantly, how does that make you feel?

Expand full comment

Hahaha! Well played, SGBear.

Expand full comment

Isn't the purpose of school to teach and prepare kids to solve problems they will encounter and need to solve in the adult world?

Expand full comment

Yes it is. But the question is posed humorously. It's sort of a play on words based on the difference between a math "problem" and a problem in one's life. (This feature's off to a rocky start.)

There's an even simpler method of defeating such a device - use the key to lock and unlock your car. If you don't use the fob, no one can "steal" the signal.

Apropos: No Regerts was an actual tattoo that someone accidentally got on a 2013 episode of A&E's "Bad Ink". That incident was converted into a joke on the 2017 movie "The Millers", but changing the spelling to Ragerts. Since then, No Regerts/No Ragerts has been used purposely as a meme, akin to YOLO from 20 years ago

Breaking: Judge Cannon dismisses the classified documents case against Donald Trump. *facepalm*. Get ready for the appeal

As far as I can tell . . . there IS potentially a legitimate constitutional issue here where some of these special prosecutors are being appointed as private citizens who are not vetted officers of the federal government. That's just based on some legal analysis I have seen elsewhere; I am no expert on it.

Of course, this kind of thing has happened before and for some reason it's suddenly time to use this reasoning to dismiss a case against a former President, in the middle of his reelection campaign, specifically timed to make sure there is no trial before the election. So . . . yeah.

The new football uniforms are released. I don't know what's different.

There are people who are far more passionate about uniforms than me. That being said, it appears that Nike went basic bitch on a lot of their teams' uniforms. Standard colors combos, three stripes on the shoulder cuffs replaces the Sather Stripe, and the same three stripes on down the pant piping. Joe Roth alt-uniforms remain. The only thing controversial is white top/white bottom combo is back, but without the white helmets - avoiding the full Storm Trooper look. Also, David Reese is a physical specimen.

Expand full comment

I don't like that there's no gold over blue combo.

Expand full comment

Minimal changes are fine by me. I think a more classical design better fits with Cal's aesthetic than a more avant-garde one would. Cal is an old school with old stadiums, old fight songs, and a long history. Just own it.

Expand full comment

Strong Roth-era vibes with the shoulder stripes and pants stripes. They're okay.

I wonder under what circumstances Cal would wear blue jerseys over white pants. And when would we wear Roth-style throwbacks this year?

The Cal Football official Instagram made such a big deal about the release date and raised the expectations leading up to it, so it was a huge letdown.

I was surprised the prosecution kept pushing this case so hard. Just because of Baldwin's celebrity? It all seemed very thin.

Agreed. If he was due any punishment it seems sufficient that he was -- accident though it was -- the person who fired the shots that killed a person.

Jeff Tedford resigns as Fresno State's HC, making it official after stepping away from coaching for health reasons three times (2014, 2019, Dec 2023). He is 62 years old.

Tedford for OC. Let the lip licker handle the HC stress, and let Tedford let loose on offense. Glory days

Expand full comment

I guess at this point we can't say it was specifically working for Cal that destroyed Tedford's health. Seems like he just can't work at this job without stressing himself to the point of danger.

Too bad; at one time I really saw him as the long-term guy who could build Cal's program to sustainable success (like Bowden at FSU).

Hope Tedford lives a good long while in good health.
