If you haven't been keeping up with the Alex Jones defamation case, it's been delightfully awful (for Jones).

A few weeks ago SGBear posted something about scheduling the AC to chill the house before peak energy rates begin, so the AC goes unused as the temp slowly rises in the house over several hours.

I looked into our BGE rates and peak energy costs FIVE TIMES as much as non-peak. Now I've set the thermostat to chill the house down to 70 from 1pm to 2pm and then fall back to 78 until peak rates end at 7pm. We'll see if this makes a difference in our next bill. Before, I had it set to 74 during waking hours and 78 during sleeping hours.

Anxious. Traveling to the midwest this weekend to attend to some elder business for my dad. I expect it to be minorly unpleasant.

OTOH, met up with a small group of W4C people at Henry's last night. Nice to finally put some faces to screen names.

FET: Singapore had its fair share of health/medical quackery products/services, a lot of it being unregulated. Miracle pills, magic crystals and so-forth. One of my favorites was in the highest end mall, which had a small store in the basement that sold oxygen-rich air through a canula... and claiming it was an antioxidant.

with both oxygen and propane, it's a wonder it didn't melt through the bridge. Or maybe it did, later.

I like how at about 4:00, a flaming piece of debris shoots out about 15 yards, and then propels itself another 15 yards along the ground.

Bars. I remember a while back, maybe 20-30 years ago, Oxygen bars were all the rage. I'm guessing they're gone now after the owners made a bunch of money. Or lost a bunch since it's a hokey idea.

Republicans are mad that Democrats stole from their playbook:

“How can we negotiate in good faith, compromise where necessary, and get things done together after the majority leader and the senator from West Virginia pull a stunt like this?” [TX Senator John Cornyn] said with rising exasperation. “To look you in the eye and tell you one thing and to do another is absolutely unforgivable.”

Charles Barkley says he's sticking to the NBA, turning away from any further overtures to join LIV Golf as a broadcaster.

"I want to thank Greg Norman and LIV for their interest in me," Barkley told the New York Post. "I wish those guys great success and nothing but the best. But, in my best interest, and being fair to Turner -- because Turner and basketball have given me every single thing in my life -- It is best for me to move on and I'm staying with Turner for the rest of my TV career."

Barkley, 59, told ESPN on Thursday that he had not received a formal offer from LIV but had spoken with Norman, the golf series' CEO.

The losing streak is over! Giants end their skid with 4-2 victory over Cubs

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2022/7/28/23283294/giants-end-losing-streak-alex-wood-yermin-mercedes

The San Francisco Giants have been playing their worst baseball of the season over the past couple of weeks. But, after losing their first seven games out of the All-Star break, the Giants finally ended their skid with a 4-2 victory over the Cubs.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler threw a lineup of righties at Cubs starting pitcher Justin Steele, who was unable to work around some atrocious defense in the third and fourth innings.

With one out and nobody on, Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Slater reached base safely on back-to-back grounders to Patrick Wisdom (Yaz’s was ruled a fielding error while Slater’s was called an infield single). Then, after striking out Darin Ruf and hitting Wilmer Flores, Steele faced Yermín Mercedes with the bases loaded.

Dodgers pounce on Rockies early, backing another Tyler Anderson gem

https://www.truebluela.com/2022/7/28/23283200/dodgers-early-offense-tyler-anderson-scoreless-rockies-blowout

The Dodgers pounced on the opposing starter right away for the second straight game, then took advantage of numerous Rockies miscues for a 13-0 blowout win at Coors Field to start a four-game weekend series in Denver.

Two runs came in the first against José Ureña thanks to a double steal by Trea Turner, who singled, and Freddie Freeman, who walked. Catcher Elias Díaz’s throw to third got away, allowing Turner to score and Freeman to advance, then a wild pitch from Ureña gave the Dodgers a second run.

Two more errors were cashed in by the Dodgers, with first baseman Connor Joe’s throw to second base hitting Cody Bellinger in the back in the second inning, and Ureña threw wide to first base on a comebacker by Freeman.
