Welcome to the Daily Bear Dump, a Write for California community board where one can talk about anything - Cal related or off-topic. Comment threads are sorted by topic. Anything is fine, so long as you’re generally civil.
I totally misjudged him due to what he looks like. He does everything from pop to mumble rap, trap, pop R&B, to even hard core country. He's a chameleon.
As I write this, I am looking at the outer bands gather on the horizon as she has come ashore near Savannah GA. Forecast is for 5-7 inches of rain today.
Debby stalled over Savannah, reversed direction and now is heading back out to sea where she will gather strength and appears to now come ashore in South Carolina, which means that I'll get a more directly hit since I'll be on the front/right side of the storm. Looks like I won't need to water the lawn this week.
heard it was hot in LA yesterday. It was relatively cool in the East Bay yesterday, but hot again today and tomorrow. Then back to being probably average the rest of the week.
David Davis. Cal fans had the "Honey Mustard" chant chambered to fire off, but alas, he didn't have many highlights and only one instance that I can remember hearing the chant.
This is the winner. I'm trying to remember who was behind Pat Barnes and why they weren't available in order to force Gottlieb, a WR who got converted from QB, to play. Justin Vedder was on that team.
The Tapestry in Bayeux is not to be missed. Sorry, I ventured into Normandy it appears. I second everything people said about Mt. San Michel. Just extremely visually stunning and has some cool old shops to rest at on the way up.
I travel frequently up to my vacation home in Northern NC, which goes through some rural parts of town. In 2016 and 2020, this land was chock-a-block with Trump campaign signs. This year - none. They are all replaced by American flags. I take it as a sign that Trumpers are still Trumpers, but they have reached a point of shame. I have no illusion that they will vote any different.
Last summer were were vacationing up near the California-Oregon border. Crossed into Oregon, where it was very conservative. We spotted a Democratic Party office. The woman inside said “there’s few of us, but we’re feisty!” She said what you said, we need to take the flag back. Gave us several red/white/blue signs and posters.
As new polls roll out, Kamala Harris eeks a tiny national lead, but still trails in where it matters in the swing states - WI (D+1), MI (tied), PA (D+2), GA (R+2), NC (R+2), AZ (R+5), NV (R+1)
i think that even though everyone keeps saying "you need an old white guy on the ticket to balance it out" .. we would be better served with a new generation of leaders.
Yes he does help get the swing state vote, but this leads to him being the next presidential nominee if Harris goes through her two terms. So alternating an old white guy and a non-old white guy.
I'm not sure that it does. Walz is 60. In 8 years, he'll be 68, but I doubt he'll be any better positioned to be president even if he's been VP to a wildly popular president.
I read an interesting factoid about the very close men's 100m dash finals. The race - won by American Noah Lyles won by 0.005 seconds - was so close that even eight place finisher Oblique Seville was only 0.12 seconds behind at 0.91 seconds. Seville would have won a gold medal in most other Olympic finals. Four of the ten fastest times in Olympic final history were run in that race, including two would have beaten Usain Bolt in 2016
Somehow, I forgot that Carl Lewis was also drafted by the Chicago Bulls and the Dallas Cowboys in 1984 despite not being a basketball or football player
From the Battle of the Bay to the Battle of the Bottom, the Oakland Athletics defeated the league-worst Chicago White Sox, who now have lost an AL-record 21 losses in a row.
While the two teams represent the bottom of the AL, the A’s clearly entered the game as the favorites, carrying a whopping 20 more victories than the Sox this season. And they performed like it, delivering an all-around 5-1 victory and taking their July momentum into August.
Before Monday’s night’s game in the nation’s capital, the San Francisco Giants were 2-11 in games where they had a chance to get back to .500. Now amber is the color of their energy, because they are 3-11 in those games.
LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers only scored five runs during the entire three-game series at Citizens Bank Park in July, a big reason why they were swept. Los Angeles matched that total on Monday night and held on to beat the Phillies 5-3 in the battle of National League division leaders at Dodger Stadium.
Sorry for being late today with the DBD. Mrs. SGB had a medical issue yesterday - she's fine, thank you - but it left us with plenty of time waiting in the hospital. We watched five episodes of Shark Tank. I don't know what series or season these were from. As a former Private Equity portfolio manager, I have to say that the valuations were absolutely ridiculous and a lot of them needed post-launch small business loans rather than equity. I smell a rat. I have to imagine that given their business stage and outrageously high valuations and seemingly near zero due-diligence, they producers know that the companies are going to get a giant sales bump by being on the show - so they have agreed to fund the companies cross-subsidized by a revenue share agreement covered by an NDA. It seems like pretend private equity that gives people a false sense of how difficult it is to raise equity.

Jim Harbaugh, now that he's proverbially made it across the NFL border and the NCAA can't touch him and is facing a ton of evidence of cheating: "I never cheated. I do not apologize". And since it's Michigan, I expect the other Wolverine staff will get light penalties rather than slaughter their golden calf

kinda hot around here .. high 80s.
headed to LA tomorrow morning for a reunion weekend type thing w/ friends from a job a while back. weather looks good out there .. 80s, sunny etc.
hoping to play tennis, maybe get in the water, barre classes ..
heard it was hot in LA yesterday. It was relatively cool in the East Bay yesterday, but hot again today and tomorrow. Then back to being probably average the rest of the week.
It’s time once again for Oski Disciple’s question of the day.
If something can be far-fetched why can’t something else be near-fetched or just fetched? (And no, I’m not trying to make fetch happen).
https://i.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExcXhuZnJ6ZzFlemVhaXMyN24wanUzNWhzM3ZpMW16cThubGtwcWJyNSZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/xT9KVF4zNt70nyNpi8/giphy.gif
Because "fetch" implies that one has to go get it. "Far" makes it an arduous task.
maybe if is nearby you dont need to fetch it. you just reach out your hand and pick up your beer, for example.
getting a beer from the beer fridge in the basement is a little far-fetched
I think the nearby version is "picking low-hanging fruit".

Kerry McGonigal. Or so my memory says.
James Grisom had a long TD catch or two, but otherwise forgotten.
The obvious choice is Kevin Moen who was parts one and five of a famous kickoff return for the Bears in the '82 Big Game.

Boyd.
only been once and just to the edge, Dinan and Mont St Michel.
the local people argue about if Mont St Michel is truly in Brittany or Normandy. technically it appears to be in Normandy.
the abbey is particularly amazing, assuming you like to drive around northern France looking at Gothic cathedrals on vacation.
We went to Mont St Michel with my mom's older brother back in 87. Had lamb at a restaurant and remembered it being really amazing.

OUR CRUMBLING DEMOCRACY
I travel frequently up to my vacation home in Northern NC, which goes through some rural parts of town. In 2016 and 2020, this land was chock-a-block with Trump campaign signs. This year - none. They are all replaced by American flags. I take it as a sign that Trumpers are still Trumpers, but they have reached a point of shame. I have no illusion that they will vote any different.
i think Dems/liberals should "take the flag back." seems strange that flying an American flag implies you are a Trumper.
That's been my position since Reagan was president. I'm highly critical of liberal "leadership", because I don't see it.
As new polls roll out, Kamala Harris eeks a tiny national lead, but still trails in where it matters in the swing states - WI (D+1), MI (tied), PA (D+2), GA (R+2), NC (R+2), AZ (R+5), NV (R+1)
even w/ those results, if we give MI to Harris, she wins 270-268.
There could be a lot of change in the next 13 weeks. Personally, I'm expecting there to be a lot of change.
Kamala Harris picks Tim Walz as her VP running mate

Glad your Missus is well.
Most all “reality” shows are fake. My son is obsessive about the fakeness and fallout caused by the Big Brother TV series.
Best wishes to the missus. (Didn't realize that would rhyme.)
Glad to hear that Mrs SGB is fine. Apparently, the state of reality TV could be better.
