I haven't heard the whole thing (super long), but Tom Tolbert has a youtube channel and invites Bay Area sports people on. He had Ray Ratto and so far it's good.

He's also had Marcus Thompson II, and Steve Kerr, among others.

It is Ratto-esque and the commentary fits the mold.

Allgeyer’s Walk-off Hit Caps Ninth Inning Comeback (Ballers beat the Yuba-Sutter High Wheelers, 7-6)

https://www.oaklandballers.com/sports/bsb/2025/releases/202508064zbbb0

The old idiom goes "You should never look a gift horse in the mouth"; in baseball it's especially true if that gift horse happens to be four walks in the bottom of the ninth.

The Oakland Ballers staged one of their biggest – and latest – comebacks of the year, scoring four in the ninth to win 7-6 over the Yuba-Sutter HighWheelers.

A's beat the Nats, 16-7

The last four games Nats have given up 16, 8, 14, and 16 runs and 100 baserunners. I did stay up to see if it was going to be a four homer game by Langeliers.

On a side note I went to the WaPo website game story to post about the pitching. I used the word garbage to describe the pitchers and it wouldn’t let me post. I changed the word to terrible and it was fine. I guess garbage is too derogatory.

Giants celebrate the new McCovey Chronicles with a blowout win (Giants beat the Pirates 8-1)

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/san-francisco-giants-scores-standings-nl-west/70528/giants-celebrate-the-new-mccovey-chronicles-with-a-blowout-win

It’s a new day for McCovey Chronicles, as you could probably tell. And hey, maybe — just maybe — it’s a new day for the San Francisco Giants as well. Our site looks new, clean, and fresh, as evidenced by the homepage. And the Giants? Well hey. They look new, clean, and fresh too, as evidenced by their 8-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, a team that, up until Tuesday, appeared impossible for the Giants to vanquish.

Max Muncy, Teoscar Hernández power much-needed Dodgers outburst

https://www.truebluela.com/dodgers-scores-standings/82828/max-muncy-teoscar-hernandez-home-runs-dodgers-cardinals

Max Muncy in his second game back from the injured list hit two home runs and drove in four runs, and Teoscar Hernández did the same on Tuesday night in the Dodgers’ 12-6 rout of the Cardinals at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers led the majors in scoring before Muncy landed on the injured list on July 3, averaging 5.61 runs per game. In the 25 games without him, the Dodgers were dead last in baseball at 3.52 runs per contest.

[WROW] Women’s Rowing Announces Coaching Staff Hires

https://calbears.com/news/2025/8/5/womens-rowing-womens-rowing-announces-coaching-staff-hires.aspx

BERKELEY – The California women's rowing program added to its coaching staff with the hirings of assistant coaches Kendall Brewer and Peter Mansfeld, head coach Al Acosta announced Tuesday.

Kendall most recently served as an assistant coach at Dartmouth from 2023-25, where she helped last season's team to its best season ever with a 16th place finish at the NCAA Championships. Prior to that, she served as varsity assistant coach for the Princeton National Rowing Association for the 2019 season.

The niece of a good friend from HS is starting at Cal in a couple of weeks and was recruited to the Women's Rowing program. I'll probably try to go to one of their local meets, if any are local. Not sure where they would row.

Oakland Estuary. Rodgers Rowing Center.

I’ve never gone either. Seen some events in Boston on the Charles River. Haven’t really figured out how to watch. I guess it’s like watching a marathon or the Tour de France?

Kind of amazing they are still there. When I was a kid in the sixties we would go down and watch races from the Fruitvale bridge.

Congress has removed Writ Habeus Corpus and the Right of Due Process from their copy of the Constitution hosted online. It's symbolic, but it's disturbing.

Related - I was doing a cooldown walk after my run this morning and saw a flier on a telephone pole. I walked up to check it out. It said missing and had a picture of a cat. The cats name was Democracy. Then there was a bullet point list of things that were missing with checks and balances being the first listed. I’ll go back and read all the way through later.

Wrote to Senator Padilla about this.
