What an ending! Down to their final few outs the Athletics managed to rally in the top of the ninth to retake the lead, and ultimately take the win/series against the Baltimore Orioles to wrap up the road trip on a winning note. Time to head home, gentlemen.
OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Ballers keep on winning, and they're having fun doing it. Before Sunday's 8-5 victory over the Yuba-Sutter High Wheelers, Tremayne Cobb Jr. took the field, flanked by a whole host of Little Leaguers.
In the 1st inning of Sunday’s rubber match against the Washington Nationals, Giants starter, and future first-ballot Hall of Famer, Justin Verlander became the 10th pitcher in baseball history to record 3,500 strikeouts in his career. As he had done numerous times before, Verlander rode across the finish line on the back of a 95 MPH fastball, painted on the outside corner that Nathaniel Lowe could only wave at as it passed.
I could see Verlander, Scherzer, and Kershaw retiring after this year. Verlander almost definitely retiring. Kershaw is still effective so maybe he could come back, especially if the Dodgers don't win it all. Scherzer still seems to be effective as well. The Kershaw/Scherzer showdown on Friday night was really good. Both pitchers were throwing well. Kershaw did get some help in the 2nd inning with the line drive double play. Blue Jays hit the ball hard against him but he limited the damage.
LOS ANGELES — The Blue Jays homered to take leads off Dodgers relievers Blake Treinen and Alex Vesia in the eighth and ninth innings, giving Toronto a 5-4 win in a back-and-forth affair in which the Dodgers couldn’t fully capitalize on numerous chances.

All of this talk about cities needing to handle crime better is such a big smokescreen. Crime was already coming down in these places. The federal government does not need to intervene.
Arlington has done a good job of getting most of the homeless off the streets. I’ll be curious to see if this pushes folks from DC across the river to Arlington and reverses the trend.

Verlander is a spent force. Giants are not going to find a diamond in the rough from a 42 year old.

Other than his strikeout record he gave up eleven hits and a walk in five innings so was lucky to get out with only five runs allowed.
Yeah he's washed. Giants took a one-season chance on him which is fine, but I think this is it.
