Breaking news: Jim Knowlton is formulating his next athletic fund-raising program in order to make Cal Athletics more competitive. While details are a bit hazy and are unconfirmed, we may have a sneak peek of the concept.
For maximum enjoyment of Cal football do not attend or watch games on TV, instead listen to Joe Starkey's radio play-by-play. It's like you're there -- only better!
I didn't like Greek salads until I had one in Athens. It was then I realized Mediterranean tomatoes are way superior to American ones. At least they were in the early 2000's
My wife is half Greek (on her mom's side). But since her dad didn't really have any extended family around she was basically raised in a Greek family.
I remember seeing the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding and thinking it was a silly and over-exaggerated thing. After meeting her family I realized it wasn't that far off from reality.
Great, but we paid for it ourselves and thus did not have a traditional Greek ceremony (also her mother had passed by then so could not take over and demand things).
only if W4C had personal ads - can you imagine? Alas it probably wouldn't be as good as the days when the SS33 map could have been used to indicate how far people were willing to travel.
Although heard about Perry White as a little kid, and learned about Pericles in high school, it wasn't until decades later that I put the two together.
Sorry, that's bullshit. The opinion piece is an exercise in wishful thinking. It's also a cowardly suggestion that somehow Trump will walk away and do no more harm if he gets a "narrow" pardon. He can't help himself. Trump is incapable of being magnanimous to any degree at all.
I want to see his carcass rot in jail. Any way this can happen will be a win for democracy and a society based on the rule of law.
Even though I agree with the sentiment of him rotting in jail, the gesture could be a lesson in democratic civics and an attempt to move the country toward some normalcy. It is not about Trump, it is about our country and democracy. And as indicated in the piece it is all contingent upon the seriousness of the charges, a pretty big contingency regarding the suggestion of a pardon.
We agree that this is about the United States and democracy. That's where we part company.
Trump is a symptom of an illness within the American polity. If he is pardoned, then it will embolden those who would tear down democracy in America. It was the similar to why I negatively view Ford's pardon of Nixon - Ford's pardon emboldened folks like Dick Cheney who supported the concept of the imperial presidency. Bill Barr is another such adherent.
Moreover, we don't need to fans the flames of insurrection or to encourage the overthrow of the federal government, installing un-democratic institutions and regimes.
You can never fully eradicate these impulses, but they can and must be reduced. Pardoning Trump in any way shape or form only encourages the continued campaign against democratic institutions.
I was talking to a DC lawyer who handles a lot federal cases and his prediction is Garland will indict Trump and once it is clear he cannot/will not run for office again Biden will issue a limited pardon and announce he is also not running in 2024. He also believes the Roe v. Wade decision will be a huge boon for the Dems and that the Kansas vote is a good sign that abortion access will get codified in the majority of states.
The whole idea of shipping the homeless off to rural tent cities and justifying it saying that land is cheaper outside the city and tents are cheaper than buildings. And fuckwit who has a lick of any business sense would know that land/rent would be a small percentage of services-based organization. You know what rural areas don't have? Lots of social services people. And the homeless would have no access to income and doom them to never being able to get out of homelessness because they would essentially be marooned.
[NYT] Trump Organization CFO Alan Weisselberg is nearing a plea-deal with prosecutors. He will plead guilty, not rat on Trump, and serve about 100 days. Seems like an injustice considering what he's been accused of. The organization itself is still facing an investigation.
People on a mission to arrest cops on behalf of the self-proclaimed “QAnon Queen of Canada” ended up being violently arrested themselves instead.
Romana Didulo has built a sizable following out of the QAnon community by convincing people that she's the true leader of Canada and waging a secret war against the supposed pedophilic cabal of globalist leaders, like Prime Minister Justin Trudeau or U.S. President Joe Biden. On Saturday, she gathered around 30 of her followers in Peterborough, Ontario, to conduct “citizen’s arrests” on members of the Peterborough Police Service for enforcing COVID-19 restrictions, like mask mandates and business closures.
The day was a clear escalation for Didulo and her crew. But by the end of it, one of her followers had been charged with two counts of assaulting police and a second was facing charges of mischief and resisting arrest.
The Oreos coated in white chocolate are surprisingly tasty. I was all "oh no, unh uh not trying that crap" and then I tried it and immediately demanded another.
I got to experience cacao processed by a Maya family that owns a cacao farm in Belize. It is pretty awesome to experience chocolate the way it was first experienced by humans. Not that it stops me from eating chocolate in all its many forms, but it was eye opening to see how much the manner in which we consume chocolate has changed from its original form.
Hmmm....I don't have a link for ya, but it was akin to a tasting where you try the seeds in various forms, including the husk that surrounds the cacao seeds. Ultimately, the seeds are ground on a volcanic stone and turned into a beautiful past. This paste is then added to hot water and drunk out of a gourd. Voila, original hot chocolate. The experience also included the first spices added to the cacao water introduced by Spaniards. If you are ever in a country where there is an authentic cacao tasting, I highly recommend it. Mine was in San Ignacio, Belize and was amazing.
Hershey bars. Chalky, a little gritty, and not worth eating.
Every year I buy the same pack of candy bars to hand out at Halloween and the Hershey bars are always the first to run out. I don't know if it's because Hershey PA is only 90 minutes away or if it's because the local kids had terrible taste. Probably both.
Cadbury's is better than Hershey's but that doesn't make it great. One time I was visiting family in the UK and there was some news item about how the EU might forbid Cadbury's from calling their chocolate chocolate because of the content - some genius decided to give cadbury's and then swiss supermarket chocolate to English schoolkids to see which they liked better and universally they were like the Cadbury's is good but this Swiss stuff is the real deal, which rather defeated the purpose a bit. They probably all grew up to be London-based Remainers 😂😂😂
I think Cadbury's benefits from having something in it, like the fruit and nut version.
I will absolutely hammer through the Krackel or Crunch minis at Halloween, the rest of the family absolutely hides them from me because I cannot be trusted.

On the start of the work week, Julio Urías worked around traffic throughout his start. But even when not at his best, the Dodgers left-hander persevered to deliver another typically strong albeit abbreviated performance in a 4-0 win over the Brewers on Monday night in Milwaukee.
The Dodgers losing streak was snapped at one.
Urías allowed the leadoff batter to reach base in each of the first three innings, including the first two batters getting on in the first and third. But none of them scored, thanks to the Brewers going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position against him.
The left-hander allowed four six to reach base in the first four frames, but struck out six to deliver his sixth scoreless start of the season, and his third since the All-Star break. Urías lowered his ERA to 2.40, which ranks fourth in the National League. Teammates Tony Gonsolin (2.24) and Tyler Anderson (2.81) rank second and sixth, respectively.

WaPo summarizes the some specific policies that have coagulated in Trump's bigliest brain pan and has been pushing out on the campaign/grifting trail:
1. Execute drug dealers
2. Push homeless into the tent cities to suburban/rural areas.
3. Deploy troops against protests*
4. Gut the Federal government by making all Federal Employees Schedule F workers
5. Disband the Department of Education and expand Don't-Say-Gay/anti-CRT nationwide
6. Only in-person voting with valid ID via paper ballots on election day

Pleads guilty to the tax crimes - you can't force someone to give you what you want if they are willing to plead guilty.
But then what's the "deal"? That's just a guilty plea.
Still a deal for the prosecutors, avoids a trial, saves $$$, is about 95% of all "justice" these days anyway.
You know that, I'm sure.
Yeah, but if he is not going to cooperate, it seems like the prosecution would insist on a much longer sentence.

Wow, you too? Sure I liked Cadbury's better when I was a kid in England, but chocolate was chocolate back then (at least to me).
I can't stand Cadbury's. It tastes of nothing and has the greasiest mouthfeel.
I'm not gonna eat a plain Hershey bar unless I'm desperate, but hand me a Krackel (or a Nestle Crunch) and I'm all over it.
On the other hand, give me a all the Cadbury eggs
When I was a kid, my favorite Cadbury's was a bar that was like a chocolate box, had 8 different fruit/nut lumps, only one I wasn't a fan of.
I think Cadbury's benefits from having something in it, like the fruit and nut version.
I will absolutely hammer through the Krackel or Crunch minis at Halloween, the rest of the family absolutely hides them from me because I cannot be trusted.
