Maybe it's because I'm LOLd, but that's what I was taught as a kid when the song was taught to me and others in my class.
I don't blame you for not knowing this. I blame lots of people for allowing the narrative about this song to be co-opted and cheapened. I probably ought to include myself in that group. I'm old enough to have not only known better, but to have done better.
had some chicken couscous soup from the local salad place. still a little hungry but also trying to eat less (ie caloric deficit) and work out more, and eventually get in shape.
the hardest thing is that eating any reasonable amount of protein is quite filling and calorie-dense. and you eat (or drink) anything else aside from that and you are immediately not in a deficit anymore!
Not sure but probably going to try to eat healthy. Was in LA from Sat - yesterday and didn't eat exactly healthy. In-N-Out on the way down. Philippes and Tommy's on Sun (went to the Dodgers game). Eately on Tues.
Costco rotisserie chicken (drumstick and thigh), Greek-style yogurt.
Speaking of yogurt, we make the stuff I bring to work for lunch from whole milk. A gallon of whole milk yields about 1.5 quarts of whey. Mrs Slug tried making a batch using 1 gallon of lowfat (2%) milk. The results were that there was much more whey than there was yogurt. Dairy fat takes up significant volume.
Leanne (8/19 Netflix) - A show about a 50+ divorcee when her husband of 30(?) years asks for a divorce via email. I first heard about this show because Ryan Stiles of Whose Line fame is on it. It's just a fine show and something that I'll throw on while working out.
I’m off to a jazz concert at one of the Smithsonian museums this afternoon and am curious to see what downtown looks like these days. Last evening I got on metro at the Foggy Bottom station and there was a handful of guardsmen lounging on the mezzanine level looking bored. There were a bunch of guys up on the street smoking weed on the plaza between the GWU hospital and medical school. I wouldn’t want them arrested but wouldn’t have minded if the guard told them to take it somewhere else.
Before I got to post this I hear on the news that Trump is going out on the street to greet the guard. Hope it’s not near where I’m headed.
The A’s won their second straight game in Minnesota on Wednesday evening, beating the Twins by a 4-2 final in extra innings thanks to some late heroics to secure the series. Next step: a sweep tomorrow morning!
A week had passed since the Giants last serious beat-down by the Padres, so I guess they were due.
San Diego’s 4-run 3rd in their 8-1 win over San Francisco bore resemblances to their 7-run 2nd on August 13th. It echoed some unfortunate breaks from Landen Roupp’s last start against the Rays in which a reliever Matt Gage took over and took a come-backer off the hip to fuel one of Tampa’s unrelenting rallies. This time, Roupp wore the bruising liner, and the consequences were much more of a bummer.
Shohei Ohtani had his worst pitching outing of the season and took a line drive off his right leg to boot in the Dodgers’ 8-3 loss to the Rockies on Wednesday night at Coors Field.
The California men's soccer team opens the 2025 season on the road this week as the Golden Bears face Saint Mary's on Thursday and UCLA on Sunday.
While the Golden Bears defeated the Gaels at home 4-2 last October, they have not seen the Bruins since 2023 when the two programs were members of the Pac-12.
10 members of the 2025 California men's gymnastics team were recognized as Academic All-America honors by the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) on Tuesday for their successes in the classroom.
Graduates Tyler Shimizu and Aidan Li, both First-Team members, each received their fourth career Academic All-America nods. Shimizu was named to the First Team for the third year in a row, while Li earned his way onto the squad for the second straight season.
The California women's soccer team is set for its first pair of home matches at Edwards Stadium this week. The Golden Bears face San Francisco in their home opener Thursday before taking on Pepperdine on Sunday in a rematch of last year's NCAA Championship first-round clash.
California sophomore forward Liz Klompmaker has been named to the Preseason All-ACC Field Hockey Team, the conference office announced Tuesday. Klompmaker was one of 11 players across the conference to earn the recognition, which was voted on by the league's head coaches.
Klompmaker is coming off a stellar freshman campaign in which she was named the 2024 ACC Freshman of the Year and earned First Team All-ACC honors after tying for second in the conference in goals (15) and game-winning goals (5), ranking second in shots on goal (45) and fourth in points (31), while leading the team in each category.

I didn't not know it was an African-American spiritual.

It's entirely possible that I also did learn the fact in elementary school but that was 45 years ago so I may have forgotten it.

A microwaved burrito. Added some salsa and it was really good.

I'll probably make black bean burgers tonight.
Ended up being grilled cheese for lunch.

Wife and I watch this too. Amusing, and insightful, at least to someone who knows nothing about Southern women.
