Did this QB actually play for Cal or just commit to Cal then later decommit?

Udonis Haslem re-signs for his 20th season for the Miami Heat for $2.9m, promising to bring the fire that a fourth string center is supposed to bring. He has averaged 55 minutes per season over the last five season. He'll earn about $183,500 per rebound.

Seeking backup options behind Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings acquire quarterback Nick Mullens from Las Vegas Raiders

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34441243/seeking-backup-options-kirk-cousins-minnesota-vikings-acquire-quarterback-nick-mullens-las-vegas-raiders

EAGAN, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings acquired quarterback Nick Mullens from the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday for a conditional 2024 draft pick, giving them an additional option behind starter Kirk Cousins amid an uneven summer for his incumbent backups.

Mullens will get a chance to unseat Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond, who have been competing for the job. Neither has stood out in training camp or in two preseason games, where the two have split reps evenly. Coach Kevin O'Connell declined to endorse either of them after Saturday night's 17-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, during which they combined to complete 20 of 35 passes for 147 yards, with Mond throwing two interceptions.

goldenone's avatar

Wow. That's great. I guess the main question is whether the Raiders will keep 3 QB's on the roster. My guess is that they probably will. I suspect Garbers will get a lot of playing time in the next preseason game.

Longo has a day

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2022/8/21/23315903/mlb-recap-san-francisco-giants-colorado-rockies-evan-longoria

The clouds were creeping in towards Coors Field all afternoon. A foreboding front that threatened but never manifested into a storm as the Colorado Rockies put together a series of returns that didn’t diminish until the 11th: a 2-0 San Francisco lead erased in the 5th, a 6-3 lead razed by an RBI single and 2-run homer in the 8th, a 8-6 lead leveled in the 10th.

It wasn’t until Zach Littell, a base running gaffe and a great tag by Evan Longoria in the 11th that set the San Francisco Giants 9-8 lead in stone.

As the tying run (already in scoring position), Sam Hilliard tried to advance to third on a flyout to medium right field. LaMonte Wade Jr. fired off a gorgeous throw that skipped across the infield to Longoria who applied a back-handed swipe tag on Hilliard’s heel to secure the third and final out.

AndyPanda's avatar

I saw a highlight where Longoria fielded a shy high chop barehanded and threw the batter/runner out at 1st in one motion.

Ryan Pepiot shines as Dodgers sweep Marlins

https://www.truebluela.com/2022/8/21/23315442/ryan-pepiot-dodgers-sweep-marlins-sandy-alcantara

The Dodgers won 10-3 over the Marlins completing their 15th series sweep of the season. They got strong starting pitching followed by solid relief work. Their offense got two-out RBI hits, a little pop and were again relentless in their 16-hit attack.

However this was not what this game set up to be if you looked at today’s pitching matchup.

The Marlins are in a poor stretch, they don’t score many runs and the really needed a strong pitching performance to keep them in the game. All indicators were that would get that today.

Cugel's avatar

United States forward Brenden Aaronson scored the opening goal in Leeds United's 3-0 win against Chelsea on Sunday, continuing Jesse Marsch's side's impressive start to the 2022-23 season.

Leeds have picked up seven points from their opening three games and started well when Edouard Mendy made a mess of a routine clearance, allowing Aaronson to capitalise just after the half-hour mark. The U.S. forward took the ball from the Chelsea goalkeeper's feet and dribbled into an empty net.

Chelsea were unfortunate to be one goal down after missing some early chances, but soon after the opener, they found themselves two goals behind as Rodrigo emphatically headed in Jack Harrison's delicate free-kick to earn the Spaniard his fourth Premier League goal of the season.

19. I always get bitten up; have even gotten bites through denim. I think I got two bites in Sacramento this weekend as well.

AndyPanda's avatar

Normally I'm about a 22 on the 1-19 scale, but maybe only a 17, since they find my daughter instead if she is around, unless my son in law is also around, in which case any mosquitos within 5 miles will immediately attack him.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Me as well...they go to town, and my skin is quite reactive to the bites. No fun, tho the ‘skeeters in Santa Barbara aren’t awful. I used to get eaten alive when Newellbany and I worked summers on Lake George and up in the Adirondacks...egads!

Even then, the only thing more toxic than the mosquitos was Newellbany’s sunshine-pumping Cal fandom.

Got my 2nd booster shot in preparation for my Lisbon work trip on Fri afternoon. Had body aches on Sat. Felt back to normal on Sun. Didn't have that type of reaction for the first 2 shots.

I was waiting to get my 2nd booster for the ones that will cover Omicron. Of course the day I get the 2nd booster I see that there will be ones covering Omicron in a few weeks.

SGBear's avatar

I'm debating whether to get my second booster now so it will be effective in time for the Notre Dame game because it is likely the most public interaction I'll have - or wait the rumored 3 weeks for the Pfizer Omicron booster.

SGBear's avatar

I found the source. It was Dr. Jha from the CDC who said the government asked for new vaccines a few months ago and he expects the Pfizer booster to be in early-to-mid September

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-vhRQVdcTk#t-9m43s

heyalumnigo's avatar

I think the 3 weeks puts me in Lisbon so I guess I wouldn't have been able to get it in time for ND. I guess the 3 weeks puts it 1 week-ish before ND so that may actually work for you.

O.Overall's avatar

Lisbon is the place to be!

20 years ago - Prague and Budapest

10 years ago - Iceland

Now - Portugal

I wonder if the explosion of low cost carriers in Europe and direct flights from the US has something to do with it - makes it a lot easier to get to Lisbon

heyalumnigo's avatar

I was shocked how full the United flights from DC and EWR were. For my flight back I'm paying the extra 130 to get a premium economy seat. Not sure it gains me anything but I think the seats are bigger and maybe more luxurious.

TheBuckeyeBear's avatar

Take this with a huge grain of salt, but I saw someone tweet about how they took one flight on this new airline and really loved it (and it's cheap), so....here, for those of you looking for cheap flights to (some of) Europe: https://flynorse.com/

Terence's avatar

Oh you went to Iceland? Amazing.

https://deadspin.com/oh-you-went-to-iceland-amazing-1792649369

Ever noticed how basically every motherfucker you know has been or is going to Iceland?

Your college friend: “Oh yeah, I’m going to Iceland in June. You wouldn’t believe how cheap the airfare is!”

Your co-worker: “This is a little weird, but we actually went to Iceland for our honeymoon.”

Your other co-worker: “Are you thinking of going to Europe? Well, you know what you should do? You should stop in Iceland and spend a night or two there. You can get a great package deal!”

Your roommate: “Iceland is great because it feels like a you’re on a glamorous European vacation, but it doesn’t cost nearly as much. And there’s a volcano!”

Someone you just started dating [while perfectly pronouncing “Reykjavík”]: “Reykjavík is so, so pretty in the spring.”

Your waiter: “You have to know how to drive stick, because all the rental cars are manual transmission, and most of the roads in the highlands are unpaved, but if you don’t drive the Ring Road you might as well not even be in Iceland.”

Your mom: “You won’t believe this, but your father and I are thinking of going to Iceland this year. The tickets are practically free!”

What does Iceland even have? Well, according to literally every person I’ve ever met in my whole damn life, Iceland has: volcanoes, waterfalls, one (1) good city, subpar cuisine, some type of aurora borealis deal, hot springs, and some animals.

Epic! LCD Soundsystem Friday night at the Fox was amazing. I haven't been to the Fox in years and forgot how amazing that place is. LCD was incredible! Last night saw Mac Demarco. He is so good at connecting and interacting with his audience and his music is so damn good. We got to meet Mac after the show. He is a super friendly and genuine dude. He explained that while his band and gear is traveling in a small van, he is riding a motorcycle around on tour and he visited our local river earlier in the day yesterday to kill some time before the show.

I watched the Woodstock 99 documentary on Netflix over the weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was 18 at the time and I remember the fires, expensive water, and heat.

One thing I did learn and was not aware of at the time was that Woodstock had an after hours rave hanger.

I made a comment to my wife that the majority of kids that participated in the Woodstock riot probably grew up to be trump supporters and participated in the J6 insurrection.

Unbelievable thing (but hope I'm wrong!): Ep 3 or 4 has a scene at a Dubs v Lakers game. One guy isn’t paying attention to the game and his friend says something like, “Wiseman is about to get a triple double”. If that becomes a thing…WGBC!!!

Cal Women's Soccer drew with the Chinese Women's National Team 2-2 on Saturday in an exhibition game. GIANT crowd of Chinese supporters out there - drawing with a senior national team is a really good result - it was an exhibition game, as Cal subbed out their entire lineup twice, and China's stars (Wang Shuang and Wu Haiyan specifically) weren't playing, but China did bring their senior team and they've been spanking the Northern California semi-pro teams and also the SF Dons.
