THE LIGHTER SIDE OF LIFE

I was at Wrightsville Beach yesterday and today. No rain as were on the leeward side of Hurricane Erin, but the waves and rip current were trecherous. We also had to leave earlier than expected because surge-boosted high tide essentially consumed the whole beach. I can tell that all the sand they dredged here has all been carried away. The formerly white powdery beach is now rough shells fragments about the size of dimes because smaller sand was swept away by cross-currents.

Way back when I remember seeing them in use at Redwood Regional Park. Recently a friend I used to work with posted pictures on FB of goats clearing her backyard. Said it took them two days.

Tatum Walks Off Boise with Signature Tater (Ballers beat the Boise Hawks, 9-8)

https://www.oaklandballers.com/sports/bsb/2025/releases/202508224j6ys2

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Despite blowing leads in the eighth and ninth innings, the Ballers had to feel okay about their chances of beating the Boise Hawks on Thursday. After all, Dillon Tatum, who twice smashed go-ahead, ninth-inning homers on the road earlier this season, was the man leading off in the bottom of the ninth.

Giants continue to ruin Verlander’s final season in 8-4 loss

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/san-francisco-giants-scores-standings-nl-west/99710/giants-continue-to-ruin-verlanders-final-season-in-8-4-loss

When Justin Verlander decided to wrap up his major-league career with the San Francisco Giants, he may not have expected a playoff berth, or a lot of run support, but he probably thought his new team would at least be able to field a bunt to third base. That was not the case Thursday, as Verlander picked up his 10th loss thanks to a nightmare fifth inning and some rough defense on bunts.

Dodgers pounce early and often in win over the Rockies

https://www.truebluela.com/dodgers-scores-standings/102069/dodgers-win-rockies-freddie-freeman-clayton-kershaw

The Dodgers scored at least one run in each of the game’s first five innings, and once you do that, the chances of smooth-sailing your way towards a win are rather large. The rookie Chase Dollander had no chance against the savvy work of the veteran Clayton Kershaw in this 9-5 Los Angeles win.

Not much evidence of the law enforcement push in downtown DC. Last night I was at one of the Smithsonian museums then went past the downtown arena, Chinatown, and the White House. The only National Guard I saw were in the metro station and they were just chilling in case something happened.

Star Trek TNG: The High Ground (S3E12) .. i generally rate all episodes 15+ with some much higher.

last night i was watching an old episode airer originally in 1990. it was about some terrorist group and there was a futuristic comment made about the “Irish Unification of 2024”!!

clearly that didnt happen.

also this

> Due to political sensitivity, as Ireland was still in the midst of the Troubles when "The High Ground" aired in 1990, the reference to Irish unification and terrorism in the episode resulted in its removal from first-run in the United Kingdom. To date, some syndicating networks will not air the episode, and it was only in 2007 (fifteen years after its first run, nine years after the conflict ended in a peaceful manner) that it was broadcast on the BBC.
