I had some random money in Capital One Money Market but it's giving me only 0.80% so I opened their 360 Performance Savings which has fluctuating interest rate. Today it is 4.3% but I think it was close to 5% last month. I moved some other money there too while I decide what do to with it next.

Athletics defeat Royals 5-4 in Oakland

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2023/8/22/23842558/athletics-royals-diaz-gelof-oakland

Fresh off a ten-hit, 6-4 victory over the visiting Kansas City Royals, our Oakland Athletics faced off against the Royals in game two of the three-game series tonight in Oakland. The 35-90 last place A’s are still five games behind the 40-87 Royals, but the Royals have lost their last three and seven of their last ten games.

Tonight, Dany Jiménez (0-1, 6.75 ERA) got his first career start, serving as an opener for the A’s. He faced lefty Angel Zerpa who is 1-1 with a 6.08 ERA. This was only Zerpa’s second start of the 2023 campaign.

Kyle Harrison has a good debut as Giants lose, 4-3

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2023/8/22/23842305/san-francisco-giants-final-score-kyle-harrison-has-a-good-debut-as-giants-lose-4-3

Yes... HA HA HA... YES! Kyle Harrison delivered on a promise. The San Francisco Giants just might have their next big pitching prospect. He had as much hype around him as any rookie the Giants have ever had and he didn’t disappoint tonight in his major league debut.

65 pitches, 5 strikeouts, 1 walk. Topped out at 97 mph with his four-seamer. Dominated an elite group of hitters with his fastball. The majority of major league hitters can handle a four-seamer just fine. The weird part of the night was how he handled the righties better than the lefties in the Phillies’ lineup, but I think that’s to be expected with a secondary pitch either handedness seemed to be able to spot right away.

Dodgers held in check by Noah Syndergaard, Caleb Ferguson blows Bobby Miller’s lead in loss to Guardians

https://www.truebluela.com/2023/8/22/23842405/dodgers-bobby-miller-caleb-ferguson-noah-syndergaard-guardians

Bobby Miller was better than his final line would suggest, but late issues and a blowup outing for Caleb Ferguson gave the Dodgers an 8-3 loss at the hands of the Guardians on Tuesday night in Cleveland.

The Dodgers started off hot, but cooled off massively against Noah Syndergaard, as the veteran clawed his way into a quality start.

[WaPo] Trump mapped out his 2024 economic plan to advisors. Based on three people who claimed to be there, the everyone was aghast that his central policy is to impose an universal 10% tariff on anything imported, a policy suggested by Robert Lighthizer - a lawyer for 43 years before becoming Donald Trump's trade secretary. It was Lighthizer who convinced Trump that trade wars were good and - somehow - Trump convinced himself that foreigners - not American consumers - paid tariffs. This would re-ignite inflation, set off a global trade war, and disrupt supply chains yet again. One person in the article pointed out that the tariff was a tool so that people could bribe Trump to create exceptions.

Ukraine live briefing: Plane believed to be carrying Wagner chief Yevgeniy Prigozhin crashes in Russia, according to Russian state media

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/08/23/russia-ukraine-war-news/

At least 10 people died in the crash of a Wagner-linked private plane outside Moscow, according to Russia’s emergency services. Yevgeniy Prigozhin, who led a failed mutiny in June, was on the plane’s manifest, according to state-run outlet RIA, citing the country’s aviation authority.

Prigozhin had largely disappeared from the public eye after leading the short-lived rebellion, which saw his mercenary fighters briefly occupy a military headquarters in southern Russia and march on the capital, shocking President Vladimir Putin and the country’s military leadership. Under a deal brokered with Putin by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Prigozhin agreed to call off the mutiny in exchange for pardons and the ability to relocate his fighters to Belarus.

Since then, Prigozhin has been spotted in his hometown of St. Petersburg attending a Russia-Africa summit, and in a blurry video shot in near-darkness that purported to show him instructing his troops in Belarus on how to conduct themselves on their new base in exile.
