Finished "Shrinking" on AppleTV, a 30-minute dramedy series starring Harrison Ford, Jason Segel and other people you'd recognize. Very quippy, well acted, just enough gravitas to make it feel real (enough). 14/19.
Around. Busy summer dealing with parent stuff and college visits for my senior. Plus, now that I'm on the writing sides of things, my W4C time is split between being a consumer and a producer :-).
Now that fall sports are returning, I will probably be more active on this side of the fence.
The Oakland Athletics kicked off the final leg of this road trip tonight as they start a three-game series against the division rival Seattle Mariners. The Mariners have caught fire this past month going 24-6 in their last thirty games. On July 25th, the Mariners were 8.5 games out of first and now they have sole possession of the American League West. After taking the first two games of their series with the White Sox, the A’s dropped the second two to earn a split on this set.
Mark Kotsay will send lefty Kyle Muller to the mound tonight. The 25-year-old hurler is 1-4 with a 7.28 ERA in eleven starts this season. He’ll be facing 23-year-old Oakland native Bryan Woo who is 1-3 with a 4.58 ERA in his twelve starts in 2023.
Kyle Harrison made his first Major League start in Philadelphia last week, but last night was his debut. A Bay Area kid taking the mound in front of friends and families, toeing the rubber like those pitchers he idolized as a kid. Coming into baseball consciousness as Tim Lincecum let his hair down, as Matt Cain became perfect, and Madison Bumgarner shot snot-rockets and pitched as if he was breaking a horse.
Who knows who Harrison will be in 5 years or next season or September for that matter—what we do know is that none of those names above introduced himself to the San Francisco community like he did last night. It was dominant. Historical. Worthy of so many exclamation points. Most importantly, it was exactly what San Francisco needed, so let’s revel in it. Splash around in the sights and sounds. Kyle Harrison has landed.
Last night’s pitching line: 6.1 IP, 3 H 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K on 91 pitches.
The Dodgers hit four home runs and had two of the three big innings on Monday night to beat the Diamondbacks 7-4 in the series opener at Dodger Stadium.
Freddie Freeman took a break from hitting all those doubles by hitting a home run off Zac Gallen to open the scoring in the first inning. Freeman’s 24th home run of the season was his 76th extra-base hit, tied with Shohei Ohtani for the major league lead.
Only eight times has a Dodger totaled 80 extra-base hits in a season, and the Los Angeles record is 84, in Cody Bellinger’s MVP season in 2019. Freeman is on pace for 95 extra-base hits this season, which would be one more than Babe Herman’s franchise record for Brooklyn in 1930.

BERKELEY – The California field hockey team scored the game's opening goal and dominated possession for extensive periods of the contest, unfortunately, No. 16 Rutgers came away with a 2-1 win on Monday afternoon at Underhill Field.
"I'm really proud of what they could bring the field after a long weekend," said Donna Fong Director of Field Hockey Shellie Onstead. "Both teams had played three games in four days. We decided ahead of time as a group that that wasn't going to be part of the conversation. Meaning, I didn't see the fatigue. I'm proud of them for just digging in and giving a tremendous effort. I'm just really impressed with the growth from Friday to Monday."
After an impressive season-opening weekend capped off with a tournament trophy, California volleyball (3-0, 0-0 Pac-12) has its first weekly award winner since 2019 in freshman Maggie Li, who was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Li is the Golden Bears' first honoree of this particular award since Lauren Forte in 2018. The freshman from Beijing was named to the Army Invitational's All-Tournament Team following Cal's win over Central Connecticut State, having posted 34 total kills with a .313 hitting percentage across three games and recording a double-double (11 kills, 10 digs) in the Bears' victory against Army. On the defensive side of the ball, Li added 27 digs, tied for second most on the team. She currently ranks third in the conference with six service aces and is the nation's No. 15 freshman with 4.15 points per set.
Go Bears!!! Beat the Mean Green. It is supposed to be 102 degrees at game time and the visiting team's sideline faces the sun. Stay hydrated Bears and most importantly stay safe.

Started Hijack - seems quite good, of course Idris Elba is a very quality actor, so that only helps.
Yes! Watched it recently- very well acted and well paced
I enjoyed it also
I'm in the middle of episode 3. Really like it.
Yeah, it a good taut thriller, and only seven eps (i.e., seven hours). Mostly believable even thru the twists.

Was at the game. He was dominant, altho had a hiccup in the 5th (I think) when two of the outs were warning track distance.
There was groaning for his sixth out when it was a soft liner to first, breaking the streak of five straight Ks to start the game ;-)
