TBB: there is a museum of ice cream in Chicago

goldenone's avatar

I took my son to the LEGO store on the Miracle Mile several years back. He loved it.

“We appreciate the contributions of my son, James, er...Brian, to our football team, especially when it came to pioneering the trend of QB sneaking on third and three so we could sneak it again on fourth down. We wish him the best of luck in the future as long as he has his chores done when I get home.”

I saw a tip on Twitter: if you stand them up rather than place them flat on the rack, you can fit more into the air fryer

“People say I’m a bad mom because I feed my kids frozen dinosaur chicken nuggets, but come on, I fucking cook them first!”

goldenone's avatar

My nephew loves the dino-shaped chicken tenders, chopped and formed but oh well!

sycasey's avatar

My kid only wants to eat the alphabet-shaped ones. Good old autism spectrum.

At the airport in Lisbon about to board the plane for Chicago to go to some football game. Go Bears!!!

In the lounge for probably the last time since I didn't travel this year enough to keep status. European lounges seem to be much better than the United one at SFO.

Heading to SFO as I type this

Lots of Go Bears! on the redeye Thursday. For a minute we own this town.

On tarmac in South Bend waiting to deplane with 30 or so Notre Dame fans and 15 Cal fans on board. Lots of Go Bears greetings. A lot of Notre Dame arrogance too (they are 0-2!). But, there are friendly “cross aisle” chats and talk of “good luck” at the game. All in all, the Notre Damies do not fear the Cal Bears.

Publix Pub Sub, a bag of roasted almonds, and an in-flight light beer.

Watched the first 3 or 4 episodes of Cobra Kai. So far an interesting season. Let's see how it turns out.

They Shall Not Grow Old. (HBO, 17/19, WB) . A marvelous piece of technology and story telling. The transition at the 25th minute is remarkable. Perhaps could have been edited down a bit, but I can understand not wanting to cut the precious audio.

Station Eleven - excellent. Well written, well acted, well directed, well paced. Just all around quality production

My only quibble is that it is way too pessimistic about human nature. I think if 99% of humans died in a plague as happens in this show, the society coming out of that 20 years later would be nowhere near as dystopic. Humans are just naturally community-driven animals, by their nature tend to help each other, especially in crises. The author falls into a pessimistic version of veneer theory where human nature is wicked and civilization is a think veneer overlaying that. There really is little supporting evidence for that, just works of fiction (eg, Lord if the Flies) and general biases towards pessimism.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I didn’t find it pessimistic or a dystopia. I feel like if 99% of humanity died and all the modern things that connect and allow a society/community to grow also collapsed we would rightfully disperse into small bands and communities until we had time to reorganize and repopulate. It would take time to pick up the pieces of humanity and start to come back together.

clapdoc's avatar

99% of humanity dying is not pessimistic for Golden, gotcha.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Have you seen humanity lately? I interpreted O.O post as saying it isn’t the 99% of humanity dying that they found pessimistic but the isolation, attitude and distrust of the survivors that they found pessimistic.

O.Overall's avatar

Yes, that is what I meant. I guess I am not all the way through it yet, maybe that aspect gets better! I think a lot of these post-apocalyptic works imitate Lord of the Flies in some way (at least it’s worldview) when really that is just made up nonsense from the mind of some creepy English dude. Compare that story to what happened to those kids in Oceania in the 60s who actually were shipwrecked on a deserted island.

Rings of Power - I'm totally in. Episode 4 really gets a bunch of quests going.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I have been in since the first episode so I am excited to watch episode 4 tonight.

Ah the legal system, yet another institution hollowed out by T and made into a mockery. At some point, in some better future, people will demand and be able to ascertain competence from their institutions.

I hate how much money lawyers make, as if 90% of their profession wasn’t just making shit up on the fly on how they “interpret” something.

Trump suggested to aides that he wanted to trade Puerto Rico for Greenland because the latter was comparably yuge based on the Mercator map.

“A friend of mine, a really, really experienced businessman, thinks we can get Greenland,” Trump reportedly told John Bolton, his national security adviser. “What do you think?”

Chiefs beat the Bolts, 27-24. Herbert hurt.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

99 yd INT return for TD to put the Chiefs ahead for good.

that was great to watch, especially by a rookie cornerback ...

GoldenSD81's avatar

Terrible play call, bad decision by Herbert and a poor throw by Herbert.

It’s 1st and goal at the 3, run the damn ball!!

I wonder about viewership stats compared with cable?

The Chargers remain the Chargers.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Yep, the Chargers and Cal share more than just similar team colors, they are both destined to disappoint for all eternity.

It's dullsville around here. Let me get things rolling with a few controversial opinions that y'all can react to: 1) Mark Fox should be given a five-year extension. 2) Our greatest football coach was Tom Holmoe. 3) Boiling puppies in oil should not only be legal but televised. 4) Let's give Trump another shot at the presidency. What's the worst that could happen? 5) During college football games, less playing time, more commercials. 6) Let'sgo back to the Georgian Calendar. 7) WFC writers are all a bunch of illiterate brain-dead homers working directly for Knowlton. 8) Kundun was Martin Scorsese's best film.
