I listened to Serial some years back. Good podcast! But it seemed to me the podcaster sort of fell for the guy in some way, maybe not romantically, but it had a tinge of Truman Capote writing In Cold Blood to it. Based on the evidence presented in the podcast (for whatever that is worth), it seemed like he probably did kill her but that he had good grounds for a new trial based on failures by the prosecutors to disclose potentially exculpatory evidence. I’d say at this point he’s served 20ish years and is beyond the age when most people commit violent acts, so they should do some type of plea deal where the state agrees not to re-prosecute the case but he agrees to waive claims against the state for wrongful conviction.
I doubt he's going back to prison at this point. As I understand it, there are other groups that have been actively working on the case since then and some of the stuff even in the original Serial that made him look guilty wasn't actually correct! (The "cell phone tower" evidence, for example, was complete bunk.)
I haven't been through all that, but AFAIK it's a pretty big step for a DA's office to actively admit that they have doubt about a conviction and request that it be vacated (not just make a deal with the convict to let him out early). That's what happened here.
It’s been some years but they did go into the cell tower stuff quite a bit in the podcast. I think the main issue he really had was that his buddy led the cops to the body and give detailed testimony that seemed to be corroborated by available evidence that he personally witnessed Syed kill her. However I admittedly do not remember all the details and as you say things have developed since. You are right that the admission by DA’s office is quite unusual.
Saw Don't Worry Baby in IMAX (early release) yesterday. Very flawed movie - lots of stuff to like (Flo Pugh, the production design, Chris Pine), lots of stuff to dislike (Harry Styles, some of the story beats) - I thought it was like a 2.5-3 star movie.
I order occasionally from doordash. Usually the service is OK but sometimes the drivers get lost in the Berkeley Hills. One time the courier didn't show up at all claiming that I didn't answer the text on my phone in time so I had missed the "window" and they were onto the next delivery. Customer service reversed the charges but I found it irritating.
I also got my booster - for some reason Kaiser said I already had had 5 Pfizer shots - which, not true - and also flu shots for the last 8 years - which also not true. I wonder whose medical records got mixed up with mine.
Florida exits OOC play having played respectably at 2-1 with a quality win over #7 Utah, a narrow loss to #20 UK, and a win over USF. Their starting QB has played all 3 games and has thrown zero touchdowns.
I received an email promoting an e-publication (are there still any other kind?) that touted it as "Fake News You Can Trust". That this is even a concept, much less one that has promotional value, is a troubling sign of the times.
Trump hoist with his own petard. WaPo reports that Special Master Dearie has asked to "disclose specific information regarding declassification to the Court and to the Government", to which the Trump defense refused for BS reasons other than he-is-a-known-liar-and-made-that-shit-up. In other words, Dearie has headlocked Trump's lawyers - admit you're wrong or face potential disbarment via false-statement charges.
They have given T and his staff all manner of opportunities to comply or make a reasoned argument based in some kind of reading of the law, and they simply have not.
No 1 and I have tickets for Yankees/Red Sox on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium. We thought about maybe going on Wed night since it is the Pirates and they suck so maybe Judge will hit 62 before Thurs, but we opted for the better opponent.
The San Francisco Giants game against the Colorado Rockies on Monday started ominously.
The first pitch of the game, a 92-mph slider from Chad Kuhl to LaMonte Wade Jr., was outside by somewhere between a mile and a kilometer (who knows the difference, really). It was called a strike.
Clayton Kershaw has been magnificent since returning from the injured list, and his win over the Diamondbacks, 5-2 on Monday night at Dodger Stadium clinched a bye for the Dodgers directly into the National League Division Series.
Kershaw allowed a run on six hits in his six innings against Arizona, striking out ten, including five in a row at one point in the third and fourth innings.
Since returning on September 1 from lower back pain, Kershaw has a 1.50 ERA in 24 innings over four starts, with 29 strikeouts and a 32.2-percent strikeout rate. After an uncharacteristically wild three-walk frame in his first inning back against the Mets, Kershaw has only one walk in 23 innings, including none on Monday.
Cal football trivia fun fact. Sponsored by Power Bar.
In the fifteen years between 1953 and 1967 the Bears had only one winning season, 1958 when they last went to the Rose Bowl. Cal managed to play .500 ball four times in that span (’53 ’54, '65 and ’67.)
Cal trivia fun fact will appear on DBD every Tuesday and Thursday during the football season.
Just christened the media room with a new 75" TV which I will use to watch the Arizona game on Saturday. That means Cal will win, right? Otherwise the twists and turns of the game will be shown in exquisite detail.

Is it AV bc you’re watching a movie with dinner?
Trying this recipe out for dinner tonight. Salt and pepper wings

Last night I made roast chicken.
The wings were really good. Got tickets to Phillies/Blue Jays at the last minute and bring the wings to eat at the game.
Adnan Syed (the subject of the original Serial podcast) has his conviction overturned, is set free.

Right, his buddy Jay who (as I understand it) now seems to have had his story fed to him by the cops.

COURIERS
for take out delivery? no.
Drexel served as one for Blue Lou Boyle’s consul, Vincent Coccotti, aka Don Vincenzo.
Drexel, an associate of Coccotti’s, is a pimp...he does his pimping, but he also works for Don Vincenzo, in a courier capacity...
Tattaglia's a pimp. He never could've out-fought Santino
*****SPOILER ALERT*****. ;-)
...It was Barzini all along....
Was there a way out for the Corleone family - I guess it's either get involved with the white powders or get Santino and Vito killed.
There’s a lot of money in that white powder….
yeah but you're going to lose all those politicians in your pocket. They don't want to be associated with that white powder.

Got my bivalent booster—nurse said I didn’t need to wait 15 minutes so I was in and out before I had to pay for parking.

Wilcox listed as 10th candidate to replace Herm Edwards at ASU by CBS sports because of defensive prowess.
Yeah, the Oregon gig was not his style but ASU will be…
Could we have a repeat of the Bruce Snyder exodus?
We could only hope
Lol. If he wouldn’t leave for Oregon a few months ago why in heavens would he leave for ASU now????
Exactly -any coaching speculation articles that list Wilcox are laughable.

I'm going to Ravens/Bills in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to that.
that's going to be a great game.
During the Titan's first drive, they said the Buffalo D had only allowed 1 TD in the last 25+ regular season opening drives. That's insane.
given that i was not particularly vested in either game, i thought it was OK that there were 2 games on simultaneously.
