2 years ago, he was Conference Coach of the Year, and the Buffs were good/at least decent. Currently, they are on the wrong side of the matchup at most positions. I've seen them play twice, and they aren't playing fundamentally bad ball, but they are looking bad because most of the time most of the players are matched up with bigger. faster, stronger, and more experienced players. The decision Colorado had to make is whether they believe in their recruiting and development, and the players they have and are bringing in, and whether they can grow into being able to matchup. Also, whether there needs to be more use of of the transfer portal short term to resolve key personnel mis-matchups. (See freshman QB issue.)
And of course, the evaluation/recruiting by the current Coach and staff that let them fall so far behind so quickly in terms of personnel has to be a concern. Can this group effectively assemble and retain enough players capable of playing at this level or not?
It's surprising, given that Stanford did sustain getting enough good players to be very good to elite for a number of years under Shaw. I understand their willingness to give him some rope to work with. But its been several years now that Stanford has not had enough players that are good enough to compete for more than a series here and a play there, at least against good FCS opponents. Clearly, its not a brief or 1 year dropoff.
And while its true that Stanford was hampered more by Covid restrictions than some, and has other challenges, so do others. Cal also had severe Covid issues, and has moved forward, and has a better recruiting flow going. Washington self-destroyed their program, and has already recovered. WSU has rebounded from serious issues. OSU has bounced back from a setback in the Covid year. Stanford shows no signs of being able to assemble enough talent to compete any time soon.
USC barely beats OSU with about a minute left in the game. I don't think anybody doubts USC is really good, but it solidifies the Beavers as legit. The Beav were without the leading receiver, their tight end who happens to be nephew of Coach Bill Musgrave.
One of the impressive things is how Smith has coached up 2 and 3 star DB's and LB's to the extent that they could hang with USC's athletes at the receiver positions.
Yeah I noticed that as well. Kinda like the peewee play where the QB gets the ball and walks to the coach telling him it's the wrong ball and everyone else on O looks confused.
They are not - the cheek is . . .well, exactly where a human's cheek comes from. The collar is the bone that connects the head to the body. Both are often wasted in fish prep - but both are amongst the best parts of the fish.
No. The cheek is the circular disc right behind the eye. It's pretty much the only meat on the head. The collar is the part right behind the head/gills and includes the ventral and pectoral fins.
I got my COVID booster just after Labor Day and only had a bit of mild soreness at the injection site, and that didn't last very long. That surprised me, because my previous COVID shots had knocked me out for a day. Then I got my flu shot two weeks later, and again, only mild soreness (but this is normal for me with flu shots). Slightly nervous that my body is just not doing anything immunologically with these vaccines; hence, no symptoms. (Fingers crossed I'm just overthinking it!)
With each of my boosters (2) I experienced increasing soreness for 2 days then gradual relief. Soreness was gone in about 5 to 6 days after the injection.
I don't get soreness particularly from the covid boosters but the. bivalent booster caused a day of tachycardia afterward (not the first time this has happened)

I was once a pretty decent runner and that's still more than a minute a mile faster than I ran. Even when I was competitive I couldn't run 5K at that pace.
The San Francisco Giants had runners in scoring position in the 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th and 8th innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon. 12 runners crowded the base paths over the first 7 innings, but Giants bats couldn’t work out a way to cash them in.
After the D-Backs broke the scoring seal in the 5th with an RBI double from Pavin Smith, San Francisco had the opportunity to re-balance the game in following half-inning.
But a lead off double from J.D. Davis followed by a Brandon Crawford single put runners on the corners with 0 outs went belly up after David Villar whiffed on three straight sliders from starter Drey Jameson and Jason Vosler grounded into a double-play.
There are many scenarios one can imagine for how a major league baseball game can turn out. But not many include a player getting his first career win and another getting his second three-inning save.
The Dodgers and Cardinals did not score any runs after the third inning and perhaps both teams were already thinking about their tasks remaining. But the Dodgers did win 4-1 to win the final two games of their series against the Cardinals.
Michael Grove was the Dodger star of the game. Grove pitched five impressive innings, giving up one run and three hits. Grove only had one walk along with three strikeouts. More impressive, Grove was able to work around a two-on and two-out situation and also an error that put a runner on third with just one out.
This became a lost season after the Lance injury. Mike McDaniel was huge for the Niner attack, and this is in no way a Super Bowl caliber O-line, especially with Williams out 3-5 weeks. The only saving grace was developing Trey. 2022 is now a waste - Garoppolo was an embarrassment on that safety and pick.
On a positive note, Jordan Mason looked good with his carry. He should see more.
Look, I make no bones about my distrust for Jimmy G as a quarterback, tho I do actually like the dude…he seems a cool guy, a good teammate, hard worker and doesn’t make mistakes on purpose. But as a fan I was concerned with the loss of Laken & Mack, plus a slimmer McGlinchy (can’t anchor in pass pro) coming off major injury. Now you lose Trent on that disastrous safety…to hear the scribes say it, this is a Super Bowl roster? Sure wasn’t one at Chicago, where Lance certainly wasn’t the reason they lost Pettis in coverage, couldn’t tackle Khalil Herbert and made dumb penalties.
Now it’s basically Super Bowl or bust, because at the end of the year, you still don’t know what you’ve got in Lance…what a pisser that Seattle game was.
I thought they at least discouraged rematches. Looking further I see CBS Sports Jerry Palm has us in the First Responder Bowl (whatever that is) against Kansas
That'd be rad. I'd graciously concede to visit my in-laws for the holidays (they live in Arlington) and then pretend that I didn't know Cal had a game there.
You had me confused. I live in Arlington, VA and I thought there was some game nearby I didn't know about. Turns out the game is in Texas so you were referring to a different Arlington.
ha. Yeah, I had to look up where the First Responder Bowl is played, which is SMU's stadium. I also learned today that their stadium is named Gerald Ford Stadium, but it's not THAT Gerald Ford. It's named after some billionaire.
Driscoll was impressive. If you look at the 3 Ott rushing TDs, Driscoll (#60) pancaked his man in two of the plays and ear-holed his man and pushed him three yards downfield.
Ott gets all the press for the Bears, but Sioape Vatikani was a rising superstar. He mauled his man. More importantly, his starting at LG and starting Driscoll at C allowed Cindric to switch to RG was exactly what we needed. While Sessions started at RT, the right side of the line firmed up.
Seriously....a more cynical and sarcastic Cal fan than I would perhaps ask why such a change wasn't made prior to ND after the OL struggled mightily against pressure v. Davis and UNLV, but better late than never...you can understand not wanting to tinker too much before heading into South Bend.
Now if we can just up the touch count on Ott...you don't wanna see him get 40, but 25 a game is definitely within reason....
Agreed about why it wasn’t made before ND. Perhaps they felt a freshman OL getting his first start on the road and against a solid ND DL was a recipe for failure. At any rate, I am glad they made the switch before conference play and doing it at home against Arizona is a much easier situation.
That’s a bit of a stretch but I like where your heads at, O D…if his appearance in the lineup is a sign of improved play by the OL and O, then this team may bowl…Cindric at RG def looked better on that side…
Major credit to Ott for getting his back against the scrum and driving backward. Without that, he doesn't get through. My only concerns it that this move would seem to make him vulnerable to defensive players trying to rip the ball from him.
[MPolo] #1 Cal finished third at the MPSF Invitation. They lost to #3 Stanfurd 12-11 in the semis, but beat Pomona-Pitzer 24-6, #8 UCSB 16-6, and #5 USC 11-10.

I watched a few minutes of the game. They've switched to a freshman QB Owen McCown. Didn't really matter.
They’ve started 3 different QBs in 4 games
You know the old saying, if you’re starting 3 QBs in 4 games, you don’t have a QB.
You mean Karl Dorrell isn't the answer in Boulder?
2 years ago, he was Conference Coach of the Year, and the Buffs were good/at least decent. Currently, they are on the wrong side of the matchup at most positions. I've seen them play twice, and they aren't playing fundamentally bad ball, but they are looking bad because most of the time most of the players are matched up with bigger. faster, stronger, and more experienced players. Depends on the question.

I’m ok with this
It’s a good thought. Didn’t the furd also deemphasize their sports or something recently?
I remember when Shaw said he hoped to be coaching on the farm until his daughter graduates. I wonder where she is as it pertains to that question.
So she could also not go watch her father run the program into the ground??

There's also an Arlington, Kentucky (population 340) but I doubt it's there.
Somebody on ESPN has us facing Army in the Independence Bowl.
I'm convinced we are going to the Rose against Ohio State. Ott will be like Bigelow in the game.
Seems our most likely destination, unless we sneak into the national semis.
Shreveport, LA might be the worst city in America. No thanks to the Independence Bowl.
Army ain’t gonna bowl this year.
They have a shot...they have 1 win now and I'd think they'd be favored against Ga St, Colgate, ULM, UConn, and UMass. That'd be the requisite six.
Go Bears!!! Ott for Heisman.
Cal wins 3 out of 6 Pac-12 Player awards. Offense (Ott), Freshman (Ott), and Lineman (Coleman)

Driscoll was impressive. If you look at the 3 Ott rushing TDs, Driscoll (#60) pancaked his man in two of the plays and ear-holed his man and pushed him three yards downfield.

I'm not sure if it was Driscoll, but there also was one on the TD the first play in the 4th.
That was Rhome

Ott gets all the press for the Bears, but Sioape Vatikani was a rising superstar. He mauled his man. More importantly, his starting at LG and starting Driscoll at C allowed Cindric to switch to RG was exactly what we needed. While Sessions started at RT, the right side of the line firmed up.
This seems to have really firmed up both the interior OL and the right side.
Okay then...Vatikani for Heisman.
That’s a bit of a stretch but I like where your heads at, O D…if his appearance in the lineup is a sign of improved play by the OL and O, then this team may bowl…Cindric at RG def looked better on that side…
Let’s get to El the F Paso!!!
Solid adjustments- great to see. Vatikani add could change the season...
Wait, I was told the coaches couldn't make adjustments...
They can’t make any adjustments before the fall equinox and that was last Thursday so Arizona had no idea what was coming.
Just a week too late
Apparently they can over the course of a week. Unfortunately, they still struggle to make them in-game, at least on offense.
The great play of the OL is the most surprising thing about this game. If that can continue into conference play, watch out.
Just a massive man and crazily quick and powerful. On the 18 yard Ott scamper he pulled Ott out of the scrum and pushed him forward.
Major credit to Ott for getting his back against the scrum and driving backward. Without that, he doesn't get through. My only concerns it that this move would seem to make him vulnerable to defensive players trying to rip the ball from him.
I saw that.
