Rashan Salaam, I think. Salaam was part of Bruce Snyder's 1992 recruiting class, but never attended because Snyder left Cal after the 1992 Citrus Bowl to coach at ASU. Salaam won the Heisman in 1994.

Juan Roque was also part of the recruiting class Snyder would have brought to Cal. Roque was an Outland Trophy candidate at ASU. He was an integral part of the OL on the 11-0 team that came within 2 minutes of defeating Ohio State in the 1997 Rose Bowl and earning a national championship.

2 years ago, he was Conference Coach of the Year, and the Buffs were good/at least decent. Currently, they are on the wrong side of the matchup at most positions. I've seen them play twice, and they aren't playing fundamentally bad ball, but they are looking bad because most of the time most of the players are matched up with bigger. faster, stronger, and more experienced players. The decision Colorado had to make is whether they believe in their recruiting and development, and the players they have and are bringing in, and whether they can grow into being able to matchup. Also, whether there needs to be more use of of the transfer portal short term to resolve key personnel mis-matchups. (See freshman QB issue.)

And of course, the evaluation/recruiting by the current Coach and staff that let them fall so far behind so quickly in terms of personnel has to be a concern. Can this group effectively assemble and retain enough players capable of playing at this level or not?

It's surprising, given that Stanford did sustain getting enough good players to be very good to elite for a number of years under Shaw. I understand their willingness to give him some rope to work with. But its been several years now that Stanford has not had enough players that are good enough to compete for more than a series here and a play there, at least against good FCS opponents. Clearly, its not a brief or 1 year dropoff.

And while its true that Stanford was hampered more by Covid restrictions than some, and has other challenges, so do others. Cal also had severe Covid issues, and has moved forward, and has a better recruiting flow going. Washington self-destroyed their program, and has already recovered. WSU has rebounded from serious issues. OSU has bounced back from a setback in the Covid year. Stanford shows no signs of being able to assemble enough talent to compete any time soon.

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2022/9/25/23372097/mlb-final-giants-diamondbacks-evan-longoria-jd-davis-camilo-doval-recap

The San Francisco Giants had runners in scoring position in the 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th and 8th innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon. 12 runners crowded the base paths over the first 7 innings, but Giants bats couldn’t work out a way to cash them in.

After the D-Backs broke the scoring seal in the 5th with an RBI double from Pavin Smith, San Francisco had the opportunity to re-balance the game in following half-inning.

But a lead off double from J.D. Davis followed by a Brandon Crawford single put runners on the corners with 0 outs went belly up after David Villar whiffed on three straight sliders from starter Drey Jameson and Jason Vosler grounded into a double-play.

https://www.truebluela.com/2022/9/25/23371811/grove-and-jackson-hold-down-the-cardinals-in-4-1-win

There are many scenarios one can imagine for how a major league baseball game can turn out. But not many include a player getting his first career win and another getting his second three-inning save.

The Dodgers and Cardinals did not score any runs after the third inning and perhaps both teams were already thinking about their tasks remaining. But the Dodgers did win 4-1 to win the final two games of their series against the Cardinals.

Michael Grove was the Dodger star of the game. Grove pitched five impressive innings, giving up one run and three hits. Grove only had one walk along with three strikeouts. More impressive, Grove was able to work around a two-on and two-out situation and also an error that put a runner on third with just one out.

Now you lose Trent on that disastrous safety…to hear the scribes say it, this is a Super Bowl roster? Sure wasn’t one at Chicago, where Lance certainly wasn’t the reason they lost Pettis in coverage, couldn’t tackle Khalil Herbert and made dumb penalties.

Seriously....a more cynical and sarcastic Cal fan than I would perhaps ask why such a change wasn't made prior to ND after the OL struggled mightily against pressure v. Davis and UNLV, but better late than never...you can understand not wanting to tinker too much before heading into South Bend.

Now if we can just up the touch count on Ott...you don't wanna see him get 40, but 25 a game is definitely within reason....

Agreed about why it wasn’t made before ND. Perhaps they felt a freshman OL getting his first start on the road and against a solid ND DL was a recipe for failure. At any rate, I am glad they made the switch before conference play and doing it at home against Arizona is a much easier situation.

Okay then...Vatikani for Heisman.

That’s a bit of a stretch but I like where your heads at, O D…if his appearance in the lineup is a sign of improved play by the OL and O, then this team may bowl…Cindric at RG def looked better on that side…

Let’s get to El the F Paso!!!

Wait, I was told the coaches couldn't make adjustments...

They can’t make any adjustments before the fall equinox and that was last Thursday so Arizona had no idea what was coming.

Just a week too late

Apparently they can over the course of a week. Unfortunately, they still struggle to make them in-game, at least on offense.

The great play of the OL is the most surprising thing about this game. If that can continue into conference play, watch out.

Just a massive man and crazily quick and powerful. On the 18 yard Ott scamper he pulled Ott out of the scrum and pushed him forward.

Major credit to Ott for getting his back against the scrum and driving backward. Without that, he doesn't get through. My only concerns it that this move would seem to make him vulnerable to defensive players trying to rip the ball from him.
