Boomers is a shorter term for Baby Boomers. They are the demographic cohort following the Silent Generation and preceding Generation X. The generation is generally defined as people born from 1946 to 1964, during the post–World War II baby boom.
A female kangaroo is known as a 'flyer' or a 'doe' and a male kangaroo a 'buck' or a 'boomer' (hence the nickname of the Australian men's basketball team, the Boomers.

Hmm...I've got to go to the Apple store in Emeryville to pick up my MBP, so maybe I'll swing around Richmond to fill up the Miata then come back via San Pablo Dam Road. Or up and over Grizzly Peak.
Did you already schedule your pickup for Emeryville? If not, consider going to the 4th St Apple store instead, for safety and free parking. (I just went to West Elm in Emeryville, so it's probably not THAT dire, but Bay Street can get a bit dicey.)
It's Emeryville because that's where I dropped it off for repair. I had circled around for 15 min looking for parking. I found that there are spots right behind the stores, under the parking garage. Go up Christie Ave past Bay street to where the parking entrance is. Instead of going through the gates, turn right and you'll see a small entrance behind the building. Go in there and there are meters and it's empty. There are doors to a passageway to the front of the stores on Bay street.
eh, on the East Coast, not really, on the West Coast it is kinda a scam. East Coast has a lot of chemical plants that can use the longer molecules, West Coast doesn't and can just dump them in the mix.
In Louisville I remember it being just 20 cents more expensive about 10 years ago. Then one station made it 30 more and the others followed. It seemed like they kept raising the price because they could.
Louisville, and probably everywhere outside the west coast, has mini marts like Speedway, Thorntons, etc, where you can get a huge soda for 99 cents. And they have those flavor shots where you can put in some cherry syrup to make your own cherry coke. I miss that a little bit. Every so often I just want a cheap big gulp of super cherry coke.
Right now I drive a Subaru Forester, which is the other end of the spectrum. When I bought an earlier Forester, my friends said I had a lesbian car and I said no, that's ridiculous. But once Martina Navratilova started doing ads for the Forester, I conceded.
I have never wanted to buy an American car. I did like the Ford Fusion Hybrids I have rented, but probably not enough to buy. I would be interested to see how it drives. remember seeing one of the SpaceX astronauts bought an electric Mustang.
And they shouldn't have used the Mustang name for this car.
I have a '14 Ram 1500. At the time I bought it, the only small trucks being manufactured were the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma. After price shopping and comparing fuel efficiency, the Ram (eight speed transmission with a 6-cylinder engine) provided a full size truck with better gas mileage at a price that was at least $6000 less than the Toyota or Nissan.
It's nuts what factors into gas mileage. I once had a 2011 V6 Jeep Liberty that had the same average MPG as an 8 cylinder Chevy Tahoe. The Jeep's aerodynamics obviously dont help, but that year was a shitty engine Chrysler made. In year 6 of ownership, regular maintenance with only ~70k miles on it, without any warning it overheated and blew a head gasket on the highway one day.
The performance is impressive, but I agree about missing the mark as far as looking like a Mustang. I would look at one long before any currently on the road foreign stuff.
I'm truly interested in watching to see how the electric trucks prove to work out, and where the pricing settles in. Not going to be in the market for one any time soon, but down the road, it actually bears watching.
This. Otherwise, it seems to be pretty well reviewed: a better daily driver than an equivalent Tesla at the cost of some performance.
As much as I'd like a Model 3 Performance, I'm probably going to wait it out and see who else will come up with a not outlandishly priced electric car that's geared towards enthusiasts. I'm not a fan of Tesla's closed-walled, vertically integrated approach. It's like Apple where you better be fully committed to their ecosystem and all the accompanying flaws and benefits. Fortunately I only drive about 5k miles per year right now, so I'm in no rush whatsoever to replace my daily driver.
Yeah, I might wait until next year. My lease is almost up and given the price of used cars I'm thinking I should take the purchase option instead of turning it in, especially because I'm way under mileage - 22K miles in 3 years. That'll buy me some time.
Damn! Apparently, the tension in Ukraine will increase prices for energy and gas. If so, then I'm guessing price per gallon in California will exceed $5 in most places.
Yes, but it'll be a sham. I should say that I don't have actual insight into what drives gas price fluctuations, but here I go, anyways...
I will accept that the Ukraine situation will cause Europe to seek to buy less Russian gasoline, which would drive up demand for other producers. But it's not like petroleum distribution can turn on a dime. You can't get a pipeline from Canada, Venezuela, the middle east or whatever to Europe overnight - it would take many years.
So Europe's gas prices will go up, until Putin gets tired of the opportunity cost of not selling all that Russian gas and appeases Europe, then things will level back out. But none of that should impact the U.S. because we have different sources and they should be unimpacted.
Having said that, I think it will impact us, because every time there's an interruption in gas supply anywhere, the companies take advantage of the situation and raise prices - even if their own production and distribution costs and demand for their product is completely unchanged. All a sham.
I can't argue with any of this as I have little insight into the global oil market. However, I always understood the global oil market, and price per barrel, to be interdependent. Consequently, I always thought arguments for domestic production as a means to energy independence and assuring lower gas prices as farcical. I very well could be missing some of the nuance here. Also, I don't think that this necessarily excludes your argument of price manipulation, as both can be true and perhaps it is a just a question of what degree each plays a factor in domestic retail pricing.
Memories of him riff off of news headlines during the W administration are some of my fondest. That guy was quintessential free speech, Berkeley riff raff and I mean that as a total complement.
My offices are there and it is pretty nice when lit up for Xmas. They also made the lobbies super nice recently.
My wife works in an office park off 101. It is way more interesting to be in the city. You can walk to Chinatown, North Beach for lunch. If I have a bit of time I like to go to Golden Boy
I work on California/Montgomery and have also worked at One Maritime and 101 California (both fantastic office buildings). I love working downtown and miss walking around Jackson Square and other adjacent locations at lunch time. Not sure if I miss it enough to want to get dressed up and pay to park and all that crap, we shall see.
There used to be a sitdown version of Golden Boy on Durant, just west of the little center where Kingpin/Nations/Mannys was, next to the post office. They had pitchers of beer for like $2 and my now-sister in law used to get drunk and dance on tables there with Natu Tuatagaloa.
Tomato, red onion (only if it's grilled), mustard (must be Dijon or otherwise not "yellow" mustard).
Mayo is preferred as a spread on the top bun.
Pickles are strictly a side to the burger itself.
Ketchup is best on fries or potato wedges. It has no place on my burger.
But how on earth can one not have cheese? My preference is Swiss if I'm having mustard on the burger.
If I really want something with tang on my burger, a blue cheese is calledfor and then you can dispense with the mayo and the mustard and the tomato. See Triple Rock's Bleu Rock burger.
If it's yellow mustard, I agree, it belongs at the very bottom of the list. I honestly don't know why yellow mustard even exists when literally every other type of mustard is better.
But if you have the option of choosing any other type of mustard, I'd put it at the top of the list. That's how shit I think yellow mustard is, relative to other mustards.
I hate yellow mustard. I do like deli mustard though. But not on a burger. I wish Costco would bring back the deli mustard and the onions for their hot dogs.
I don’t understand why Costco hasn’t brought back the deli mustard and onions. Is it just a cost savings thing at this point? It can’t be a human health safety issue.
Actually I don't need to do one, this kinda my list; with one difference: agree never any ketchup, but I don't mind a piece of lettuce as a shield between the wet stuff on top of the burger and the bun. We usually have avocado when the wife makes cheeseburgers. (why would you not have cheese?)
ketchup and tomatoes aren't the same thing, and if you don't believe me, buy some tomatoes and try to make ketchup at home. It can't be done - it's just impossible.
Tier two: pickle (I like them on some sandwiches, but not so much on burgers)
Tier three: ketchup, mustard
Bottom tier: mayo (hot mayo? blech), tomato (too much water content so it gets soggy), red onion (too strong--give me a yellow onion, preferably grilled, instead)
In the US Navy, SSBNs are sometimes called Fleet Ballistic Missile submarines, or FBMs. In US naval slang, ballistic missile submarines are called boomers.
Before I ask this, I want to remind you that you guys know I love you: If you’re a dynamic “fuck it and chuck it” kind of quarterback, why on earth would you pick a Wilcox coached team over one coached by Kiffin?
I just read a news story that 87% of Arlington County where I live have had at least one shot but only one in three have had a booster. Not sure what's going on there. Separately I got an email from my sister that she tested positive and has cold-like symptoms.
When did a lot of them get vaccinated? We had a lot of holdouts who ultimately got vaccinated when they found out they couldn't get into a lot of stuff in the fall, and they are only now aging enough to be in line for boosters. Meanwhile, I'm expecting to hear about a 2nd booster (4th shot) by early spring.
Arlington has always been ahead of the curve with vaxxes so I assume most got the first shots fairly long ago, but I don't know for sure. It wasn't like there was a big surge in vaxxes before the holidays. A big surge in testing yes, but I think most had already had the shots.
A Pittsburgh bridge collapsed early Friday, injuring 10 people just hours before President Biden was scheduled to visit the city to talk about infrastructure.
Pittsburgh Public Safety acknowledged a “confirmed bridge collapse” at around 6:50 a.m. Photos showed at least four vehicles, including a Port Authority bus, on the Fern Hollow Bridge near Forbes and Braddock avenues. Another vehicle was shown dangling near the edge of the collapsed bridge, which is located in Frick Park and connects the Point Breeze, Regent Square and Squirrel Hill neighborhoods of Pittsburgh.
A bunch of my in-laws live in McAllen Texas because it's dirt cheap there and it's on the Mexican border, where they can buy cheap stuff. Thanks to Qanon, who is gathering there now, because they think that there is a child smuggling ring based out of... [checks notes] the butterfly park.
Some of my cousins live in McAllen. My maternal uncle was a cop in McAllen. Unfortunately, he died young (early to mid-40s) in November 1984 due to diabetes and possibly alcoholism. Not really clear about the circumstances of his demise.
Attended my first game at Chase Center last night, Warriors vs. Timberwolves. It followed the usual Warriors pattern: they let the opponent hang around for the first half, then ran away from them in the 3rd quarter and held the lead from there on out. Good times!
I also learned during the pregame announcements that somehow Andrew Wiggins had been elected to be an All-Star starter. I don't understand how this could happen.
Are the two of you at Northstar? I hope the skiing is as good as can be given the lack of recent snow. I'll be on the mountain tomorrow, location still to be determined, taking the avalanche course. My friend and I have decided to snow camp tomorrow night. Should be some extremely cold fun!
snow camping sounds excellent. hopefully you still have plenty of snow to do the avalanche course on. i suspect that when it is so hard packed there might be less to worry about?
I had been to the first Warriors game at Chase, pre-pandemic. It was a logistic mess, with staff not knowing where to direct people and public transit and uber basically gridlocked. But that has probably improved. Inside, the food choices were a bit better, but the crowd vibe hadn't caught up with the excitement back in Oakland.
eh, yeah, if one is being objective, stanfurd's new stadium isn't bad, I think the perception of soullessness comes from their fans, the piped in music, their stupid band, lack of traditions.
When we score at home, we have a real cannon fire, they have noise of a fake train whistle (so blue collar). When Memorial is going, we have mic men, a raucous student section on the 50 yard line, it is just a different experience.
I will say for a lot of people, the parking and tailgating is a lot easier there, so they have that going for them.
I think you're conveniently forgetting that the Stanf*rd admin insisted on having Santa Clara County Sherrifs at every Big Game and putting a cyclone fence in front of the Cal sections. I took it as an affront to any self-respecting Cal fan, including myself. Especially since the Furddies could charge the field from their end without fear of being accosted by the Sheriff's staff.
It definitely seems to take the crowd a while to get warmed up now. There's a lot more going on outside the stadium than there ever would have been at the Oakland arena, so I think people tend to mill about more before going to watch the game.
Full confession: I was also lucky enough to get invited to a fancy company suite for this game, so I was in an especially "soulless" part of the stadium. Next month I have tickets for more nosebleed type seats so might have a better idea of it from that.
I kinda think the nosebleed fans will be more into the game than the company suite/instagram people down in the bottom section. When I was there before NY for the Nuggets game the people in our nosebleed section seemed to be more fans than people there just to be seen there.
I didn't see the whole match, but from what I've read it seems like the USA dominated play in general but had trouble finishing. El Savador rarely threatened (which is as you'd expect, they're not very good and are on the road in cold weather).
They've definitely been inconsistent during this run, maybe because of all the absences of top players resulting in random lineups. Still, they're basically right where you want to be at this stage.
Finishing is all mental. I have been married 14 years, can provide tips if they need them though I caution that a number of them involve exotic headwear
I said as much after the last round of CONCACAF qualifying: that Panama had kept pace, but their schedule was about to get a lot tougher. Seems like that's accurate. They're probably competing for 4th place, not 1-3.
They would also probably need a massive surge themselves to rise above 4th place, so the table seems almost set at this point, barring some big upsets.
Mexico has the easiest run in with 4 of 5 remaining matches at home and no Canada. US moderate run in but away matches to Mexico, Canada and Costa Rica which has been a house of horrors. Canada has long trips still on the schedule and 3 away matches but has no Mexico left and the US at home. I just dont see how those 3 dont qualify automatically at this point. Panama is away to the US and Mexico and Canada at home on the final match day. I dont see how they make up 3+ points
Definitely. CONCACAF has drawn Oceania for the playoff, though, which would mean that any of the top three teams that happened to fall into 4th place would be heavily favored.
[NHL] ex-Shark Evander Kane signs with Edmonton for $1m for rest of season, essentially the second half. This compares to his $7m/season before he was cut of Covid shenanigans.
Viewed SBN UW Dawg Pound site this morning. A Jan. 27 posted article, with no comments, titled Off Season Market Watch: California (all Pac 12 teams in said state). Naturally, I scrolled down to read the take on Cal. Not particularly revealing or accurate - "Offensively, Chase Garbers will be handing off to Damien Moore and passing to Kekoa Crawford for the 12th straight season. Is there reason to think the results will be drastically different?"
Cal is admittedly not a draw, but that's disheartening given how good and entertaining that UCLA team is. Maybe it's mostly an indication of COVID fears, but could also be a sign of the game losing some of its relevance and draw.
I went with my friend who has season tickets. He said the way it works is you are assigned a seat # day before the game, depending on availability. He said he got 9th row seats for the Arizona game this Tuesday. So I think the game is losing some relevance.
There has to be. The system must exist for one subset of season ticket holders. I can't imagine major donors would be stoked to moved around from game to game.

Gas prices in your area?
$4.65 for super at Costco, San Juan Capistrano. Up $230 over the last 12 months. Let's go Brandon!
Costco in Richmond is $3.999/gallon for regular.
Most other prices are around $4.399 or higher.
Dicey? In what way?
https://evilleeye.com/news-commentary/2021-q3-emeryville-crime-data-shows-gradual-climb-to-pre-pandemic-levels/
I have never encountered anything at all untoward at Bay Street, never.
SHHH..don't tell anyone.
But I'm glad you have a system.
Haha or just park across the street and also go to Trader Joe's and Daiso :)
Last time I filled up it was 3.33 for 93 at Costco, 4.19 for 93 at the Shell up the street. Regular is probably 50-70 cents less.
Ahh...93. It's a racket that Premium is so much higher than regular.
eh, on the East Coast, not really, on the West Coast it is kinda a scam.
It's generally 20 cents more in the stations around me.
That could be true as well.
93! God, I wish.
3.599 locally, but quite a bit higher in some areas not that far away. In part because Oregon has some of the highest fuel taxes in the country.
$3.09/gallon. And you can also get 32 ounces of Mt. Dew and a Grape flavored Swisher Sweet for $1.49 more.
I feel like mini mart specials provide unique insight into a part of American culture that I have little exposure to these days.
I don’t even know to be honest but I think it’s about $3.80 for 87 hereabouts
Just filled up my car, which was nearly empty, in advance of tomorrow’s freezing weather - $3.60 for 87, so I wasn’t too far off
Tribal fuel center is at $3.89
Local Costco near my house is at $4.19
Wow the tribal place is cheaper than Costco? That's surprising. I always assumed Costco was the cheapest given how much fuel they buy.
I think it is due to it being on tribal trust land and not having to pay the state gas tax.
Ahh...yes that would save a bunch of money.
I'm thinking about getting the all electric Ford Mustang. I test drove it and loved it. Any thoughts?
LMFS bought one and loves it beyond all rational thought
Do you have a teeny weeny?
Yikes, Scoots!
The Mustang isn't a muscle car and I don't think it has a douchebag vibe at all. Really, it's more like a Tesla.
Implying a Tesla doesn't have a (different) douchebag vibe
fair. well, half fair. Teslas might be douchey, but not in the muscle car, teeny weeny sort of way
Do you think the douche factor of an electric Mustang is additive or multiplicative?
Newellbany, ILY but you are wrong about this.
Right now I drive a Subaru Forester, which is the other end of the spectrum. When I bought an earlier Forester, my friends said I had a lesbian car and I said no, that's ridiculous. But once Martina Navratilova started doing ads for the Forester, I conceded.
Their "lesbianism" was earned.
It looks like a Nissan Rogue or a Toyota Rav-4 - those are, like, family cars. The only difference is the Ford is a plug-in.
The new eMustang does more resemble the Tesla X than the traditional Mustang design.
Domestic trucks OK, domestic passenger vehicles, hard pass for me too.
I could understand trucks. Though those new all aluminum F-150s are HUGE.
I have a '14 Ram 1500. At the time I bought it, the only small trucks being manufactured were the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma. After price shopping and comparing fuel efficiency, the Ram (eight speed transmission with a 6-cylinder engine) provided a full size truck with better gas mileage at a price that was at least $6000 less than the Toyota or Nissan.

buy the second year of production.
At the earliest. Even the best technology takes some time to shake out. There will be some unexpected issues.
This. Otherwise, it seems to be pretty well reviewed: a better daily driver than an equivalent Tesla at the cost of some performance.

Teslas make apple devices look easy to repair
Almost everything by design does anymore.
Yeah, I might wait until next year. My lease is almost up and given the price of used cars I'm thinking I should take the purchase option instead of turning it in, especially because I'm way under mileage - 22K miles in 3 years. That'll buy me some time.
Costco Concord is around 4.29 for regular and 4.59 for Premium.
The price hasn't subsided much from last fall/early winter (when I was last in Cal) I see.
Nope. Been fluctuating between about 4.09 and 4.39.
I think my brother just got regular for 3.99 at Costco in Richmond!
@but then you have to go to Richmond@
But I will say that some Costcos have better Asian products than others. Concord's kinda sucks for that.
Saw $4.97 in the City
I've been seeing lots of $4.89 for 87 and $5.09 for 91 around LA
Damn! Apparently, the tension in Ukraine will increase prices for energy and gas. If so, then I'm guessing price per gallon in California will exceed $5 in most places.

Yup, and when they have the opportunity to lower prices, of course they won't.
Yep. Particularly the part about using legit issues with cost in some areas as an excuse to gouge everywhere else.
I can't argue with any of this as I have little insight into the global oil market. However, I always understood the global oil market, and price per barrel, to be interdependent. I used to sit and listen to him outside Dwinelle during the summer before freshman year when I took Subject-A.
Memories of him riff off of news headlines during the W administration are some of my fondest. That guy was quintessential free speech, Berkeley riff raff and I mean that as a total complement.
I saw him in the summer of 88. So there probably was plenty of Reagan material for him to use.
That is so awesome! I didn't realize he was around back then.
I frequently caught his heckling act outside Dwinelle waiting for class. He never failed to amuse. I hope he is still around.

True! I did go into work prior to Omicron and it was fun to be there again, but yeah, the commute kind of grinds you if done daily
I love Golden Boy.
what is Golden Boy?
(wait, never mind - this sounds NSFW and I don't wanna know)
There used to be a sitdown version of Golden Boy on Durant, just west of the little center where Kingpin/Nations/Mannys was, next to the post office. They had pitchers of beer for like $2 and my now-sister in law used to get drunk and dance on tables there with Natu Tuatagaloa.

Rank these as burger toppings: mayo, pickle, mustard, tomato, red onion, ketchup
Among those limited options -
Tomato, red onion (only if it's grilled), mustard (must be Dijon or otherwise not "yellow" mustard).

Pickles are strictly a side to the burger itself.

I don't either. They bought back the ketchup and crappy yellow mustard but not the much superior deli mustard?
Deli mustard is quite acceptable. It should not be compared to yellow mustard - that's disrespectful to delis.
Tier 1: American cheese. It is the best cheese for burgers. Fuck cheddar and it’s poor melting
Tier 2: pickles, raw red onion, or grilled onions
Tier 3: Mayo, special sauce, mustard, tomato
Cromulent tier: avocado, bacon, jalapeños
Garbage tier: lettuce, ketchup
Actually I don't need to do one, this kinda my list; with one difference: agree never any ketchup, but I don't mind a piece of lettuce as a shield between the wet stuff on top of the burger and the bun. We usually have avocado when the wife makes cheeseburgers. (why would you not have cheese?)
I don't mind american cheese on burgers but I prefer no cheese at all.
Agree with American Cheese
Totally, though I do love a good pepper jack burger
Both of these are perfectly cromulent choices
Cheese, Mayo, red onion (not too much, though), tomato, mustard...
Ketchup is gross except as a base for a good BBQ sauce. Pickles are always gross.
Ketchup #1. French fries are a delivery system for Heinz ketchup to my mouth.
we are the exact opposite. I am glad I am right and you are wrong
I'm done with ketchup. You got the tomato already. Just mix up some may and mustard and sweet relish.
ketchup and tomatoes aren't the same thing, and if you don't believe me, buy some tomatoes and try to make ketchup at home. It can't be done - it's just impossible.
I don't ask for ketchup, but if they have a special burger that has it in it then I won't remove it.
Tier one:
Tier two: pickle (I like them on some sandwiches, but not so much on burgers)
Tier three: ketchup, mustard
Bottom tier: mayo (hot mayo? blech), tomato (too much water content so it gets soggy), red onion (too strong--give me a yellow onion, preferably grilled, instead)
mayo, tomato, red onion, mustard, ketchup, pickel
Pickles, onions, jalapeno, mushrooms, and mustard in tier one
Boomer
Boomers, for a night of fun!
Esiason. Don't remember too much from him as a QB. Not a fan of him as an NFL analyst. Too bland.
Sooner
The worst fight song in the FBS.
Gen-X here, or as Wired magazine called it back in 2000 Generation Equity.
In the US Navy, SSBNs are sometimes called Fleet Ballistic Missile submarines, or FBMs. In US naval slang, ballistic missile submarines are called boomers.

ASU's OC Zak Hill resigns. ICYMI: TE Coach resigned on Monday. WR coach and DB coach fired for cause last Friday.
https://247sports.com/Article/Arizona-State-football-Zak-Hill-resigns-as-OC-amid-NCAA-investigation-into-recruiting-violations-181702959/
It's nice to see some consequences there. I had lost hope that any further substantive action would be taken.
This could be just as much to do with on the field results and the potential recruiting violations are a convenient out to fire with cause.
Without a doubt.

Big get for Kiffin.
Huge get, I don’t underhand how he went to SEC country. I really wish Cal could have landed him.
the concussion we rudely gave him probably didnt sit well
Before I ask this, I want to remind you that you guys know I love you: If you’re a dynamic “fuck it and chuck it” kind of quarterback, why on earth would you pick a Wilcox coached team over one coached by Kiffin?
what if you're a dynamic "fuck it and tuck it" QB?
If you're a "flip it and reverse it" QB, you go to Cal or Northern Illinois
There’s always the Big10 I guess
Oh, I agree. If I were a QB with actual talent and NFL aspirations I would pick Kiffin over Wilcox.
Today in Covid
OUR CRUMBLING DEMOCRACY
LITERALLY:

[checks notes] the butterfly park.
https://www.dailydot.com/debug/national-butterfly-center-closed-sex-trafficking-qanon/
Some of my cousins live in McAllen. My maternal uncle was a cop in McAllen. Unfortunately, he died young (early to mid-40s) in November 1984 due to diabetes and possibly alcoholism. Not really clear about the circumstances of his demise.
This country has ignored mental health and mental funding for a long time and QAnon is the consequence of those decisions.
Also education, public health, wage inequity, environmental health...
Also being purposefully misled via social media, Fox News and podcast.
And Matt Gaetz is, like, standing right there!
There truly are no bounds to our countries current, collective psychosis.
Qanon seems really obsessed with finding a place to smuggle children...

I don't understand how this could happen.
how much do tickets cost in the lower bowl area for a warriors game?
(I went there for a Cal game, and liked the lower bowl area, but didn't like the upper seats with the steep inclines)
Great job by the Dubs marketing team to rig the polls. Love Wiggins. He's been incredibly dependable, but he's a fringe AS at best.
HAG and i are going to the game on Sat vs the Nets. will be my first time there
Are the two of you at Northstar? I hope the skiing is as good as can be given the lack of recent snow. I'll be on the mountain tomorrow, location still to be determined, taking the avalanche course. My friend and I have decided to snow camp tomorrow night. Should be some extremely cold fun!
snow camping sounds excellent. hopefully you still have plenty of snow to do the avalanche course on. i suspect that when it is so hard packed there might be less to worry about?
We were on Tues. Mon was Squaw. Came back on Wed afternoon. It was an average 40 degrees during the day. Maybe that's above average for Jan?
I had been to the first Warriors game at Chase, pre-pandemic. It was a logistic mess, with staff not knowing where to direct people and public transit and uber basically gridlocked. But that has probably improved. Inside, the food choices were a bit better, but the crowd vibe hadn't caught up with the excitement back in Oakland.
What did you think of the venue? Some people I know have described it as oddly soulless.
That would continue the trend set by the new Niners and Stanford stadiums.
Describing Stanford stadium this way smacks of Cal bias. It's one of the more fan-friendly stadiums in the Pac/Mt W footprint.
eh, yeah, if one is being objective, stanfurd's new stadium isn't bad, I think the perception of soullessness comes from their fans, the piped in music, their stupid band, lack of traditions.
Yeah, you’re probably right in regards to the new Stanford stadium. The old Stanford stadium was a soulless pit but that was largely due to its size.
A$$holes.
Isn't that how it always is?
USMNT beats El Salvador, 1-0. This plus Panama's loss to Costa Rica puts them in strong position for World Cup qualifying.
https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-states-usa/story/4580735/antonee-jedi-robinson-gives-berhalterusmnt-the-world-cup-qualifying-win-they-were-looking-for
Not a great showing, should have made more of their chances; the endless tactical foul by ES was rather annoying.
The U.S. did dominate play, but they still couldn't really build the pressure that it takes to break through and score goals.
I think Panama's next three games are against the three teams currently atop the table - Canada, USA, Mexico. That should end their charade.
what if they win all three
Then they'd deserve to be in the World Cup
I said as much after the last round of CONCACAF qualifying: that Panama had kept pace, but their schedule was about to get a lot tougher. Seems like that's accurate. They're probably competing for 4th place, not 1-3.
Panama has 4th place all but locked up already barring a massive collapse and a surge from Costa Rica (which I dont see coming)
I hope that's right - I want no part of an interconfederation playoff. This U.S. team walks way too close to the edge for that.
Definitely. CONCACAF has drawn Oceania for the playoff, though, which would mean that any of the top three teams that happened to fall into 4th place would be heavily favored.

I often use cheapairportparking.org when I have to park at LAX. I wonder if that has some locations with cheap rates still.
checked and they have some under $20 for all day. If you are willing to walk about 20-30 minutes.
L.A. is cashing in on the Faithful big time
I wonder if there are more Rams fans or 9er fans in the Greater LA area...
I wonder if the Raiders are #1 in LA still...
Which is why the NFL vote to put the Chargers in LA and the Raiders in Slots Vegas was absolutely absurd.
I'd my life on it. Raiders fans confound me. Is there a fanbase as abused and as loyal?
I guess if you're a Raider fan that stayed with them when they returned to Oakland, you'd be fine with Las Vegas.
I have no understanding why any of the Town Bidness crowd would stay with them, however. Sure as shit they're dead to me.
good day to be an uber driver, I suppose.
Uber/Lyft prices will be surging that day.
[NHL] ex-Shark Evander Kane signs with Edmonton for $1m for rest of season, essentially the second half. This compares to his $7m/season before he was cut of Covid shenanigans.

CAL
Viewed SBN UW Dawg Pound site this morning. A Jan. 27 posted article, with no comments, titled Off Season Market Watch: California (all Pac 12 teams in said state). Naturally, I scrolled down to read the take on Cal. Not particularly revealing or accurate - "Offensively, Chase Garbers will be handing off to Damien Moore and passing to Kekoa Crawford for the 12th straight season. Is there reason to think the results will be drastically different?"
Not if it takes until the middle of the 2nd quarter to discern that that isn't actually still the ball/player rotation.
Went to Pauley last night. The arena was empty! So I got to sit anywhere I wanted and it enjoyed because I had no expectations.
Nice of the Bruins to implement load management in the Covid era and give the Bears "odds" chess style. It did keep it closer longer.
Cal is admittedly not a draw, but that's disheartening given how good and entertaining that UCLA team is. Maybe it's mostly an indication of COVID fears, but could also be a sign of the game losing some of its relevance and draw.
Wasn't a problem when Arizona was there. Johnny J wasn't going to play either, and it was an early tip, which is always a problem with LA traffic.
I went with my friend who has season tickets. He said the way it works is you are assigned a seat # day before the game, depending on availability. He said he got 9th row seats for the Arizona game this Tuesday. So I think the game is losing some relevance.
Huh. Interesting system.
There might be tiers
There has to be. The system must exist for one subset of season ticket holders. I can't imagine major donors would be stoked to moved around from game to game.
Go Bears!!!
