Renamed Pimentel Hall in honor of my Chem 1A instructor (George) who transformed the beakers of red (not cardinal) and white solutions into beakers of Blue and Gold every November? yep, looks like it.
I think it had a tan interior back in the day. I had Physics 5A there in 1973 or so. Also I remember a former chemistry student telling me that the early versions of the cyclotron were tested there, before PSL was built.
It looks like it. I remember it being bigger, though it's possible the picture isn't taken near the top. I always wondered how many seats PSL held. I estimate 600+.
The take I read is that its efficacy is pretty good based on previous standards, but the mRNA vaccines are just SO effective that this pales in comparison. I'm still pretty excited about the J&J one. We're going to need all the solutions we can get!
BB, your expertise is closer to this than most of us, isn't it? Does it compare well to vaccines for flu, measles, mumps, shingles, etc.? I also read that of the 44,000 population, no one died. Is that statiscally significant for this type of study?
The thing about the vaccines is no one really knows how long they will be effective. I'm hearing 1-2 years maybe longer with the possibility of needing booster shots every few years
AMC closed up from its pre Reddit hype but was overall down based on the high of 19.90 where it closed on Wednesday. NOK still taking on water. I broke even with those two but will taking a mini-Scrooge McDuck money bath this weekend from my vaccine stocks.
At this point, it's all greater fool theory, not "fighting hedge funds". Some people are making a bunch of money, but this will end in tears for others.
alas, the bulk of my portfolio is taking some short term water as big institutions sell their blue chips to raise money to cover the short. (although I should buy in on some of them AAPL and Microsoft for example)
My wife made Tonkatsu for dinner last night, with sides of rice & asian salad, and Japanese BBQ sauce - but what wine will complement that dish? Wind Gap 2014 Syrah, Majik Vineyard; a low alcohol (10.4%) and very light Syrah, worked perfectly.
Cal Defensive Lineman ('87-91). Honorable All-American '90 and '91 from Morgan Hill, CA. Drafted 6th round. Cut six times by 3 teams, but eventually played 6 seasons with minor success for the Eagles. Retired because he kept getting blood clots in his lungs and got a SB ring when he briefly played for the 49ers. He moved back to Morgan Hill and raised a family. His son played the same position at Bellarmine, got his only scholarship offer as a 2 star recruit to play as SJSU. Cade ripped up the Mountain West, named the Defensive Player of the year as a Junior this last season. His teammate Kyle Harmon (Jr, ILB) is the son of one of my high school friends and former Cal recruit/enrollee. Kyle transferred to SJSU and is now a tackling machine for SJSU putting up Evan Weaver like stats for the Spartans - around 14 per game when healthy.
Dwinelle is way easier to navigate these days because they've added a lot of signage. The kids have no idea how good they have it--now get off my lawn!
Sara Anastasieska - former Cal WBB player who transferred from Australia to UTSA to Cal to Duke is in the portal again as a grad transfer. She is seeking her 7th year after redshirting, getting a medical year, and the 2020 Covid mulligan year when Duke WBB opted out of playing. She will be 24 years old.
Trump administration spent $200m sending 8,700 ventilators around the world. Now they don't know where they are, nor can anyone articulate to the GAO what their process was.
NYT is trying to make me feel sympathy for Qanon fools (not really feeling this):
"Another twinge of self-consciousness came during a phone conversation with a childhood friend. “I remember calling my best friend and getting all into the number of pedophiles in government and that they’ve taken over the whole government system,” she said. “I felt a part of her saying, ‘This is not the friend I recognize.’ It never came out in words, it was just a sense that I had.”
When she first left QAnon, she felt a lot of shame and guilt. It was also humbling: Ms. Perron, who has a master’s degree, had looked down on Scientologists as people who believed crazy things. But there she was.
But she has come to appreciate the experience. She has talked to her children about what she went through, and has learned to identify conspiracy dependence in others. She agreed to speak for this article to help others who are still in the throes of QAnon."
I have been reading a lot of the Reddit QAnon Casualties board and the stories there. It is hard to feel sorry for them but then I realize it is similar to an addiction and their cartels are basically Fox News, Newsmax, OANN and Trump are the real people to blame for this.
I was shocked and so wrong, tho they were rebuffed by GB for Rodgers! Apparently the current Detroit GM pounded the table to trade up for Goff whilst an exec for the then-STL Rams, making the package that included two 1’s and a 3, along w/ a starting bridge-QB, all the more palatable...
Rams to go something like 2017-2023 w/o a first rounder...7 years? Their SB window is again now, tho it could get real ugly when the bill comes due. That said, I prefer that Polynesian Chic-fil-A sauce with my crow! ;-)
Shoutout Riverboat Ron, he's finally cancer free! He's setting the standard for persevering while kicking ass and taking names every day, its the inner golden bear in him!
Is that PSL?

I remember pimentel! Tho I had C Bradley Moore instead.
I think it had a tan interior back in the day. I had Physics 5A there in 1973 or so. Also I remember a former chemistry student telling me that the early versions of the cyclotron were tested there, before PSL was built.
I took the same in the early 70s.
It looks like it. I remember it being bigger, though it's possible the picture isn't taken near the top. I always wondered how many seats PSL held. I estimate 600+.
I think that's pretty near the top, it looks like I remember it (but a bit refurbished).
If so then it's smaller than I remember.

J&J Phase 3 trials show that their vaccine is effective and easier to store/administer, albeit less effective than Moderna or Pfizer's.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/29/health/johnson-coronavirus-vaccine-results
66% effective from what I'm seeing, also not as promising against certain variants

Honestly, I am going to be most useful in finding relevant articles for you, since I'm not an immunologist or epidemiologist. I think this Vox article does a pretty good job: https://www.vox.com/2021/1/29/22238591/johnson-and-johnson-jnj-vaccine-effective-safety-one-dose-south-africa
Roxane Khamsi and Hilda Bastian in this Twitter thread are trustworthy sources of information: https://twitter.com/rkhamsi/status/1355158544316846082

hedge funds are still over leveraged though.
I just think this is hilarious. I have a few thousand in GME but that's it, not exposing the vast bulk of my portfolio to it.

Did you hear that UC Berkeley is changing the building name from __________to __________ Hall?
Wurster Hall to Bester Hall
haha
Dwinelle Hall to The Maze Runner Hall
Dwinelle is way easier to navigate these days because they've added a lot of signage. The kids have no idea how good they have it--now get off my lawn!
Please, I expect you have a long ways to catch up with some of us.
Or Load Runner?
Now someone needs to mod Temple Run with Dwinelle Hall.
You see a place where....
i hate that fucking commercial
I liked the one with the bear wandering campus.
Fifteen seasons. We've been airing that commercial for FIFTEEN SEASONS.
IT'S SO MUCH BETTER THAN EVERYBODY'S GETTING INTO CAL THOUGH
Also better than "So how come you don't go to Cal games?" I mean everyone answered "Because they suck"
Give me "Whose domicile?!" or give me death.
It's a sign on continuity and stability
HAVE WE SEEN THE FUCKING PLACE YET
you see....Berkeley
I used to know a Cal student named Yu Tse. I called her the walking campus.

I can’t decide who I hate more in the House: MTG (basically the anti AOC) Boerbert, Cawthorn or Gaetz.
Every time I think it's one, another one speaks up. I think Greene is the worst.
choice isn't necessarily required here. They are all odious, awful people
Rep Taylor-Greene is a master of being a jerk and acting like she is the aggrieved party
Funny how everybody wants to be the victim, and the rebel, and the other party is always the evil empire.
Yup, funny that.
