My other internet community alerted me to new BA videos. I'm feeling torn. On the one hand, there are knowledgable POC in positions of authority, and that's good, and I want to hear what they have to say. On the other hand, this comment really rings true to me:

Im sure theyre all great people, but it sucks that they got roped into this.

If BA really wasnt using this as the corp eq of "I have a black friend" then they wouldnt have had to make a video to point it out.

All they had to do is try to get back to to the old content schedule and let people organically learn about these changes.

Instead they put out a video that says "Look we have minorities now!!!"

Ah. My personal feelings - I'm not sure we need celebrity chefs or foodies from Brooklyn or NYC to teach us how to cook. That being said, I have learned a lot from their content... so basically I'm a hypocrite.

Yeah, I read another thread basically saying that if a cougar wants to kill you it's not going to stalk you out in the open. It's going to pounce from a hiding place in the brush. You won't see it coming.

But in general cougars don't want to attack humans. This was obviously one trying to scare away something it sees as a threat to her offspring, not a real attack.

Here's the thread: https://twitter.com/yashar/status/1315856091821948929

The guy does some things right (like he doesn't turn tail and run like prey would do, he keeps facing the cougar and slowly backs off), but could do better things like making louder noises or throwing a rock/branch in its vicinity (he does eventually do that, but it takes him a while).

That's better response than I did when I thought I might get attacked by a mountain lion. I was in high school and got sponsored (by a Stanford Board of Trustee person) to go help out with some mountain lion field research in Idaho/Utah. After scaring away a mother to do measurements on an one year old tomcat, I got separated from the group in the middle of nowhere. During the longest 90 minutes of my life, I though the mountain lion mother might sense my fear and I duct-taped the metal cylinder spring scale and other crap to the back of my neck for protection (partially thinking that I might look like an idiot when they find my corpse...thus more will to live!).

Tampa pitching and defense do it again, and the Blue Rays take a 3-0 series lead with a 5-2 win over Houston. The Astros had multiple at bats in the 9th with the tieing run at the plate, but instead, the Blue Rays win their 52nd in a row when leading after 7. And for just the 2nd time this post season, a team has been out-homered and still won.

It could have been more decisive, but the Blue Rays left more runners in scoring position than they plated. And the 2nd Houston HR came when TB got cute with Yarbrough, and sent him out cold after sitting a half hour. 1 pitch and the Astros doubled their run production.

But then Tampa's offense was mostly terrible, making nothing out of multiple scoring opportunities. All 5 of their runs came after yet another Altuve error opened the door in the 6th. Houston's own excellent pitching gets a lot of the credit for that.

And Houston would have won going away were it not for 4 separate outfield catches that were all SportsCenter worthy, each of which saved 1 or more runs.

Tampa gets a good non-break break, as Kevin Kiermaier got drilled on the wrist, but the xray was negative. The Blue Rays will need their stellar CF going forward.

Atlanta's bullpen melts down, and would have blown a 7-0 bottom of the 7th lead had the Braves not got an insurance HR in the top of the 9th. But with Kershaw scratching, the Braves built a 7-0 lead before uncharacteristically poor pitching (by Atlanta standards) and a terrible decision to not make a change BEFORE letting Muncy hack a 2 run HR, the Dodgers fell short, and fell behind in the series 2-0 after falling 8-7. Atlanta got the win as the visitor despite easily the worst finish to a game they have had in the postseason, and miraculously is still unbeaten in the postseason.

It will be interesting to see if this proves pivotal in the series. LA historically loses the series 70% of the time when they fall behind 2 games to 0.

Astros loaded the bases in the 9th after scoring to make it 4-2, but the Blue Rays pitching and defense is just too much, and take a 2-0 lead in the series. That makes it 61 in a row for Tampa Bay when leading after the 7th. (I've heard pitching and defense wins in the post-season.)

Braves tee off on Dodgers bullpen in 9th to take Game 1 of the NLCS

https://www.truebluela.com/2020/10/12/21513338/blake-treinen-jake-mcgee-home-runs-dodgers-braves-recpap-nlcs-game-1

Runs were at a premium on Monday night, until the ninth inning anyway. Blake Treinen and Jake McGee allowed rockets for four runs in the ninth inning, breaking a tie in a 5-1 Braves win over the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS.

After a three-game division series that produced only three home runs, Globe Life Field yielded four on Monday. Solo shots provided the first three runs of the game, including Austin Riley’s very loud home run to open the ninth.

Atlanta didn't get their 5th shutout of the postseason, but they came close, holding LA to 1 Hernandez solo HR, and pounded 3 of their own. Buehler finally pitched an extended amount very well, but overall, the Braves proved for the 2nd time yesterday that pitching and defense wins in the post season.

Expand full comment

The replacement starter, Gonsolin, pitched really well this season. Was probably the 2nd best starter since Buehler missed a couple starts at the start and his blister. The problem will be that he was probably the game 3 or 4 starter. He didn't pitch last series because it only went 3 and threw a sim game on Fri or Sat (I think). So he's probably on a pitch count.

I would then assume game 3 will probably be opener for 1 inning and then Urías. For some reason his first inning ERA is huge but last few times he comes in after an inning or two and pitches real well.

Unless Kershaw can't go tomorrow or Thursday (so there goes that big edge on the Dodgers SP depth), I'm not sure this is necessarily a break for the Braves (who did lose Adam Duvall for the rest of the playoff, but are still better against lefties). I've read some rumors that maybe Gonsolin did his sim game on Sunday; his limited pitch count may be an issue.

Expand full comment

Gonsolin definitely did a sim game over the weekend to line up with a start on either Thurs or Fri. So he'll definitely be on a pitch count. Urías may back him up but he probably would now be the game 3 starter since everyone got pulled up one game. Oh god, maybe Alex Wood? as the long man out of the pen? Most likely this will end up a pen game with Gonsolin going 2-3 and then fill in. Or if Roberts thinks this is a must win then go Urías as the long man today. May on Wed (game 3). Bullpen on Thurs. Then see if Kershaw can come back on Fri.
