Yankees and Mets both lose.

looking pretty grim for the Mets down 3-1 and unable to find any offense.

Yankees lose in dramatic fashion giving up HRs in the 9th and 10th inning after pulling ahead in the 8th on a Judge HR. squandered a great chance to be up 3-0 in the series.

I got home just as they walked Soto on four pitches before the home runs. That was one fun game to watch.

I wonder how often the Yankees' 3 & 4 hitters (and they have had a few formidable combinations in those slots) have homered back to back to take and extend a lead, let alone in the 7th or later, and the Yankees still lost. Much less lost a post-season game. That can't have happened all that often.

The Metz, and a possible subway series, is in a lot of trouble.

I suspect MLB and the broadcasters would prefer a NY-LA series. Traditional, and the 2 largest markets. Cleveland might not get a close call in their favor at some point.

from my financial advisor .. since we were discussing impact of election on portfolio

The market is positioning for a republican victory recently. Regardless of who wins, spending will increase (increase in our national debt), and inflation will likely increase. Quite frankly, while I do think the election will bring volatility to the markets in the near term, I believe the long term impacts will not be so tremendous one way or another.

I've never understood the mindset behind death threats. I take this as a good sign about myself, like the fact that I can't imaging raping anyone. It's not just that I wouldn't do it, I don't even understand the impulse. Meanwhile, beating the Stanfurd tree to death I totally get.

Tony Bennett retires. No, not that Tony Bennett. The award winning men's basketball coach at UVA. It appears het got sick and tired of what NIL has done to college sports.

Quite a legacy: lost in the first round in every NCAA Tournament he coached in . . . except one, where he went all the way.

Expand full comment

I disagreed with some of Bennett's style-based program decisions, but I do respect him tremendously for saying he's not equipped and suited to the current and imminent state of college athletics, and Virginia needs someone better suited to take on current challenges.

He could have come to that decision earlier in the basketball off-season, and not hamstrung the program by leaving so close to the start of the season.
