On this day in 1951 in Memorial Stadium the Golden Bears defeated Oregon State, 35-14 raising their record to 5-1. The previous week the Bears had suffered their first regular season defeat in almost exactly four years. 43,000 fans turned out to see California race out to a 28-0 halftime lead. The Bears gained 421 yards on the ground led by Bill Powell’s 135 yards, 98 of which came on the longest rushing TD in Bear history. All-American Les Richter led the blocking for the hosts and also starred on defense, intercepting a pass which he returned deep into Beaver territory. Richter would go on to be the second overall pick in the 1952 NFL draft. California would lose once more before finishing the season 8-2 giving them a combined 46-3-1 regular season record in Pappy Waldorf’s first five years as head coach.

[FB] You Better Believe It

https://calbears.com/news/2023/10/26/inside-the-lair-you-better-believe-it.aspx

Everyone has a story. Every story is different. Every story has a purpose. I think the beauty of being able to tell your story to others is that it enables you to gain perspectives from people, make connections, and learn.

With that being said, my story starts in October of 2010, almost exactly 13 years ago. My mom, Marilyn, is known for decorating her house perfectly for whatever season we are in during the year. I remember October 28, 2010, like it was yesterday – fall colors all over the house while watching the Giants and Rangers play in the World Series with my family. Who knew that was going to be the day that our family's entire day-to-day life was about to change forever?

This is our last chance to beat our three rivals in the same season, a feat which we have only accomplished six times ('37, '41, '48-'50, '58). I've wanted this as much as a Rose Bowl and indeed five of the six times we've done it were in Rose Bowl years. It starts tomorrow with a shocking win over U$C.

My nephew's girlfriend posted a couple pictures from the game on FB. Looks like they were in the lower bowl behind one of the baskets.

I watched maybe the last 3-4 min of this game. Suns had 1 made FG in the 4th and 8 TOs. Lakers came back from something like 12 pts down, though they only had made like 3 FGs. Booker was out. Lakers were just double teaming KD making him pass it or take a contested jumper. He couldn't do it just by himself.

i didnt stay up for this one. i watched the early game as D Lillard crushed it on his first game w/ the Bucks. 39 pts, took over at the end, made long range 3s, the whole package.
