Pretty good. Spent two days in suburban WASPville in Connecticut and two days with our kid at Parent's Weekend. The college hardly put any effort into their event, which was fine by me since I got to spend more time with my kiddo. I ended up taking a tour of the Tenement Museum, going to a Gospel concert in Harlem, dinner with friends, and gelato at Anita La Mamma on upper East Side. Only downside was Cal's loss to USC.
the tenement museum is very cool. there are a bunch of different ways to experience it so you can go back 2-3 times and get a different understanding each time.

Pretty good. Went to grandnephew's tenth birthday party Friday night. Saturday I went to Memorial Stadium and despite the loss had a good time. Took comfort in the fact that I'll never have to deal with the U$C band or their fans again. Yesterday went to the gym then watched a movie (Virgin Suicides). Watched three Premier League matches over the two days. My favorite club remains unbeaten. How was yours?
Speaker Johnson wants to bifurcate Ukraine and Israel support so he can oppose funding Ukraine. Apart from wanting to abandon our ally in a proxy war with a key enemy, Johnson and the MAGA dolts somehow don't know that nearly 100% of "Ukraine spending" is spent in the US
This is another example of the way in our defense and military aid budgets are the closest thing the US has to an industrial policy most of the time, although the IRA legislation for onshoring production is mixing it up a little bit.
Arizona was absolutely terrible two years ago (beating only...I forget who) and now they're knocking off top twenty-five teams. Colorado was awful last year (beating only...I forget who) and now have four wins. Meanwhile at Cal the more things change the more they stay the same. Actually they don't change at all, they just stay the same.
their young QB is pretty good for a start - when SC played Arizona the commentators were going on about how polished he seemed for someone without a lot of college starts and then casually mentioned that he'd been the starter at one of the big OC preps like Servite - I guess it's too much to expect that the reference notes for a national broadcast might include some info about that being a competitive environment.
The kicker or an onside player may recover the kick across the line of scrimmage, in which case the ensuing down shall be first down whether or not the original yardage has been gained.
Following such recovery by the kicker or an onside player, a player of the kicking team may interfere with an opponent provided that contact is made only above the waist of the opponent.
EDIT: it seems the rule encourages man-to-man defense, doesn't it?
I happened by the Four Seasons on my run this morning. The Celtic team busses were out front but only one fan waiting for autographs. When the Warriors stay there, there's usually a big group of fans. I didn't wait around to say hi to Jaylen.
last year i think they only one 11 road game and it felt like they were giving away games on purpose.
they were up 16 on Houston, Houston came back to take the lead, but then Curry took over and scored 4 3-pointers in a row. everyone else was mostly standing around watching the show.
The way the defense has fallen apart in two consecutive weeks is disturbing. The offense had some injuries and some likely regression from such an unsustainably low turnover rate, so I get that. The D should not be so bad so consistently, giving up 400+ yards a game. What's going on?
MORAGA – California women's tennis junior Lan Mi captured the top-flight singles title at the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational on Sunday, defeating teammate Berta Passola Folch in the final, while Passola Folch and Makenna Thiel won the Blue doubles consolation final for the Golden Bears on the last day of the tournament.
LOS ANGELES- The California women's soccer team lost its second-straight match Sunday falling on to No. 23 USC on the road 2-0.
Despite falling to 7-5-6 overall with a 4-2-4 Pac-12 standing, the Golden Bears remain in fourth place in the conference standings. The Trojans remain just above them in third and improve to 10-3-3, 6-1-3.
TUCSON, Ariz. – California volleyball earned its fourth Pac-12 win of the season on Sunday afternoon, posting a 3-0 victory over Arizona at McKale Center to clinch the season sweep of the Wildcats. It was Cal's (15-8, 4-8 Pac-12) first sweep of a Pac-12 opponent since Nov. 7, 2019, which also came in Tucson.
BERKELEY – Evan Davila scored what was arguably the California men's soccer team's best goal of the season against 15th-ranked Stanford, and the Golden Bears tied the Cardinal, 1-1, in game one of the Big Clásico on Sunday at Edwards Stadium.
The Golden Bears' record is now 6-5-4 (2-3-2 Pac-12). Stanford – which hosts Cal in the regular-season finale on Nov. 11 on The Farm – is 7-2-5 (1-1-5).
ORONO, Maine – The California field hockey team secured the fourth seed in next week's America East Tournament with an emphatic 4-1 win over host Maine on Sunday morning at the UMaine Field Hockey Facility. The Golden Bears extended their winning streak to a season-best five games, their longest streak since 2017.
Cal (9-7, 5-3 America East) finished the day with 18 shots, 12 coming on goal. The frontline trio of Kitty Baccanello, Bente Baekers and Daniella Rhodes was too much for Maine (7-11, 3-5) to contend with. It was Baccanello's brace that gave Cal all the cushion it would need as the defense held the Black Bears to one goal on 16 shots. Tina Jolly (9-7) earned her ninth win of the year, tallying eight saves.
MORAGA – Three members of the California women's tennis team advanced to the top-flight singles semifinals of the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational with wins Saturday at the Korth Tennis Complex. Makenna Thiel will face Golden Bear teammate Berta Passola Folch in one Sunday semifinal, while Cal's Lan Mi will take on San Francisco's Katerina Filip in the other semifinal.
In the Blue singles quarterfinals, the top-seeded Passola Folch defeated San Francisco's Hana Gramracy, 6-4, 6-2, the second-seeded Mi beat San Jose State's Irena Muradyan, 6-0, 6-4, and the sixth-seeded Thiel bested Sacramento State's Mayya Gorbunova, 6-2, 6-3. An all-Bears semifinal round was thwarted when Cal's Tiziana-Marie Schomburg fell to the Dons' Filip, 6-1, 6-2.
LOS ANGELES – The No. 2 California men's water polo team fell in its final road game of the regular season Saturday at No. 1 UCLA 13-9.
While the Golden Bears (17-4, 2-3 MPSF) had their star center Nikolaos Papanikolaou back in the lineup for the first time since Sept. 24, they were without goalkeeper Adrian Weinberg, who is currently with Team USA in Chile for the Pan American Games.
Sampson Zheng produced an amateur Composite Course record 65 to surge to the top of the leaderboard in today’s third round of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
On this day in 1965 in Memorial Stadium the Golden Bears defeated Penn State, 21–17. Quarterback Jim Hunt connected on a 46-yard Hail Mary to wide receiver Jerry Bradley on the last play of the game for the winning score. The visitors had gone ahead 32 earlier on a 13-yard touchdown pass. But Hunt, who had starred as a safety and back up to Craig Morton the previous season, led the Bears to the Lion 41. After a sack pushed Cal back five yards, only one second remained. Hunt scrambled around before flinging the pigskin toward the north end zone. The deflected pass found Bradley, the Bears leading receiver despite his 154-pound frame, who dove for the catch. Penn State was coached by Rip Engle, the following year he would be replaced by Joe Paterno who served as head man there for 47 years. (On a personal note I was in the first row of the north end zone about twenty yards from the catch. It was the first miracle finish I’d ever witnessed and Jerry Bradley went from hero to god for me.)

you didnt eat at Alice's? maybe it is just the meeting spot and i guess it is crowded on weekends.
i like driving to the little town of Pescadero, one of the few places you can get an abalone sandwich.
It's always super crowded on the weekends with all the cards and motorcycles. We had 25 or so cars so we just drive through.
the food and desserts are very good. well worth a detour.

Something you learned after doing a bit of research
Through 1952 Cal was mostly very good at football and sometimes even great at it.
doing research is hard!
